What book or series did you read that got you interested into fantasy books? Of course, this means that I'm assuming that you're interested into fantasy books at all. If you aren't, and you just liked the Nightrunner Series cause you can, then that's fine.
The first fantasy book/series I read was the Harry Potter series, but even though it was my first, it wasn't what got me interested. The series, or two series, that got me hooked was the Belgariad and the Mallorean series by David Eddings. It took me awhile to get into the first book, but once I was, it took me about two weeks to finish the other nine books. sweatdrop

Wow..... I've been into books for so long I can't even remember what got me hooked. I LOVED "Where the Wild Things Are" and "Catwings" when I was much younger. When I was about seven I found an old illustrated coffee table book that had a bunch of paints for "The Hobbit", as well as excerpts from the book, so they may have opened the doors to the fantasy a bit for me. I also read a lot of Ursula K. Le Guin (Earthsea, Catwings), and Madeleine L'Engle (A Wrinkle in Time). I also loved ancient Greek literature, like Homer ("The Odyssey", The Iliad) and Euripides (Medea... which is a FANTASTIC read, I highly recommend it!) And I realize that The last two are more classified as "classic" literature, they still have a fantasy feel to me smile

Hmm, The Odyssey sounds familiar. Someone else has mentioned it to me before.
The only Greek Lit. I ever read was Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, it was good.

I've read that, it's pretty good. Kind of hard to wrap my mind around around the whole incest thing, but it was still a really good read.

When I read it, it was during English class. To 'prepare' us for the incest thing, she told us a summary of the book before we read it. rolleyes I still liked it though, even though I was pretty much the only one out of the whole class.

Yeesh. I went through a lot of that when I was in high school. We'd read some play or poem with "non-traditional" romance (like Equus O.o) and it seemed everyone but me and our teacher was shouting "EWW! SICK! GROSS!" stare Stupid high school boys being stupid.

HAHA! LOL! yes they are quiet immature and annoying!
Well the series that got me hooked was i think Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda. My friend got me reading it. It was fantastic from the beginning to end. I started reading the series when i was in year 4 at the peak of when i really started to read books. =]

Did a book get me into fantasy? XD I don't even remember. I do remember that when I was really little, my dad used to tell my siblings and I stories with us in them. I was a princess. And there were wizards and things. So that might have been the earliest influence.
But he also read us a lot of books, includings "The Hobbit", and the Iliad and the Odyssey. So... I think dragons really kept me in fantasy so exclusively. In third grade I started reading the Pern series (Ann McCaffrey), which was good. I was also interedted in the Jewel Fairy books, if anyone can remember those. XD
Btw, I've also read Deltora Quest, and the Belgariad and the Mallorean. All quite good, though the last two are a little... I don't want to say cliche... But they kind of are. XD
