Little vague on your actual question but umm there is a large variety of types of anime. You can think of it kind of like American tv shows and books. There are many different genres and certain age/gender groups. For instance Nick jr has different stuff then Nick at Night.
So one place to start might be thinking about what type of books or movies you like then find an anime or manga that fits that genre. For instance if you like whodunit books you might want to try Case Closed also known as Detective Conan.
And too be honest you can't go wrong no matter where you start. Just try out a couple shows and if you like keep watching, if not try something else. There is something out there for everyone.
You can also ask people for recommendations or find a list of some of the most popular anime on a website and try a couple of the highest rated. Most important thing is to keep an open mind and try a multitude of things. The more you are exposed too the better you can decide on what to check out next.
