Asteia is a world similar in size and weather patterns to Earth (See section: Ancient Worlds.) Asteia has 1 star in it's system, and a total of 3 moons. there are four continents; two polar, and two located at the equator. There is slightly less gravity, allowing for feats of increased strength and speed.
The most unusual part of the planet is the strange energy field that surrounds it. this field can be manipulated by body posture, hand symbols, and certain sounds, but only for the inhabitants of this world. It has reality-warping properties. This field permeates everything on this planet, and those who leave the planet keep a field of this energy around them. The field also has a 30% mutation rate on non-native humans, causing their ears to turn into those of a cat, rabbit, fox, or dog, and causing them to grow a tail to match...
Inhabitants of Asteia call this energy field "magic" or "the Arcane." People who train in the manipulation of this field are known as "mages." A mage usually devotes themselves to either ice, fire, water, earth, wind, metal, light, or darkness. A mage who has mastered all the elements are known as an ultimate mage, or Ultimage. The more a mage casts their "spells," the longer their lifespan becomes. (most Ultimages are recorded to be over a thousand years old, yet appear to be in their late twenties!)
Possibly the most fearful information is the confirmed presence of creatures akin to those of ancient myths and tales from Earth. There are reports of dragons, unicorns, griffins, and even sea monsters. How these creatures developed is still unknown. According to native lore, some creatures are intelligent and can cast magic. These creatures apparently have spirits that gather together, but dissipate over a hundred years. if enough are destroyed, the creature's spirits will coalesce, creating a powerful ethereal creature called an Aspect. The Aspect will hunt for a host. The species is obscure, but the host is a humanoid. When the aspect finds a suitale host, it will combine with it, granting the host it's powers, knowledge and strength, as well as an affinity for the aspect's species. If the host shares the same ideals, they will merge, becoming nigh-unstoppable. However, if the ideals are different, as usually happens, a split personality develops, where the aspect is submissive to the host, yet keeps him/her from using the aspect's powers. If the host becomes weak, the Aspect will take over until the host is strong again.

Asteia's native races, the elven Siofra and reptilian Dragonians have different beliefs on their beginnings. Siofran legend states that their people were raised from the ocean by the gods. Dragonian myth says that the sun spewed out four great fireballs, two hit the rocks, creating the first Dragonians, and two smashed into a field of diamonds, crating the first dragons. Both of these races began their lives on different continents.
The early Siofra destroyed the south half of their continent through heavy logging, and it quickly became a desert. shocked by how quickly they had turned a forest into a desert, the Siofra vowed never to damage the forests again. they then journeyed over the mountains bisecting their continent, all while increasing their knowledge of magic. once they reached the lush northern forests, they grew their homes through spells.
The Dragonians developed differently. They created kingdoms in the mountains they called home, tunneling vast cities underground. Dragonians had smithies, who kept shop outside, harvesting trees and timber, but only in the amounts they needed. Dragonians also tinkered a bit with magic, but found it too wild and dangerous, and thus, shunned it.
Eventually the Dragonians began a period of exploration, and when they discovered the Siofran continent, they made a base camp and began cutting down trees. The Siofra were outraged by this disrespect for the forest, as time and their law made them believe it to be sacred. The Siofra attacked the Dragonians, who suddenly found themselves surrounded.
As Siofran blades bit into Dragonian flesh, the Dragonians saw that they themselves were harder to kill than the Siofra as a Dragonian explorer swung his "dull" machete in defense and cut the Siofra attacker in half cleanly. (dull to a Siofra and dull to a Dragonian are extremely different. what is razor-sharp to a human is dull to a Dragonan.) The Dragonians were still outnumbered, and so they retreated and left the continent. The Siofra celebrated their victory, and vowed revenge for those who had died. This was the start of a war that would last thousands of years.
