This topic is even broader than the film one, as I sit here with Iron Maiden shaking the walls I ask myself, "why is British so consistently good at making great songs?" I mean from all eras, through time Britain has so often led the way in so many genres.
There are loads of great band and musicians from the 1800's till right now, which songs or groups for you, are the best?

*totally unbaised post*Quote: The TrooperYou'll take my life but I'll take yours too You'll fire your musket but I'll run you through So when you're waiting for the next attack You'd better stand there's no turning back.
The bugle sounds and the charge begins But on this battlefield no one wins The smell of acrid smoke and horses breath As I plunge on into certain death.
The horse he sweats with fear we break to run The mighty roar of the Russian guns And as we race towards the human wall The screams of pain as my comrades fall
We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground And the Russians fire another round We get so near yet so far away We won't live to fight another day.
We get so close near enough to fight When a Russian gets me in his sights He pulls the trigger and I feel the blow A burst of rounds take my horse below.
And as I lay there gazing at the sky My body's numb and my throat is dry And as I lay forgotten and alone Without a tear I draw my parting groan. biggrin

Firstly, I love you for making this thread. xd
Secondly, I'd like to say that I love Muse with a burning passion above all other music groups, ever.
And why are the British so consistently good at making great songs? I don't know. But maybe it's best not to question it. Hmmm.

We're just naturally talented at creating brilliant music.
Queen, The Beatles, Oasis, Coldplay...
*salutes*

Moonlit City Secondly, I'd like to say that I love Muse with a burning passion above all other music groups, ever. I never knew where Muse were from, though someone sent me Bliss and Hyper Music over MSN, is The Dolphins Cry by them too?
I've Bliss on now, haven't listened to it for ages.

Invictus_88 ...is The Dolphins Cry by them too? I'll correct myself before you do it for me, I just put it on and it was so blatantly not by Muse that I looked it us on google, it's by 'Live'.

illyrianth Aren't the lads in Muse from Tavistock? Teignmouth, Devon. Muse have got some pretty good songs but some of their music sounds awfully familiar and, in my opinion, Absolution is completely overrated. Good live. Seriously, though, there are too many good British bands to name them all.

And yes, a little overrated, but good all the same. Though, personally, I've never seen them live, so I can't comment. sweatdrop I've never seen anyone live.

... my music taste is so different neutral
Albums I own by British artists:
Charlotte Hatherley (from Ash fame) - Grey Will Fade Siobhan Donaghy (from Sugababes fame) - Revolution in Me Sugababes - Overload Javine (HAHAHAHAHA) - Surrender Dido - No Angel Dido - Life For Rent Jamelia - Thankyou
I guess I have a really girly taste in music...
Erm other than the albums I own I like Franz Ferdinand, Ash, Jentina and Muse.
