What I'm curious about is if there is any way in Japanese to say "I love you" but not in a creepy way. Family-type love, not couple-type love.
Reason being that sometimes when I'm bored I'll translate bits and pieces of random things in my head into Japanese just to see how far I can get with it, but when it came to that, I wasn't sure what I could use. sweatdrop

There really isn't a casual way to say "I love you" in Japanese without implying some sort of crush.

The thing is, I don't think Japanese people say "I love you" in non-romantic contexts all that much. It's weird for them. In western cultures people say "I love you" very casually all the time, but in Japanese culture that's just not the case.
Unless you're a *very* small child, where your "love" cannot be mistaken to have any romantic implications. (僕はね、ママのことが大好き！Boku wa ne, mama no koto ga daisuki!）

Guess that'd have to be changed. xP You'd have to start by actually having Japan use the word for love in romantic situations as well.
