Milly gasped, clutching her throat. Not now. Not this. Looking up, she bit her lip. She had to resist this with all her training! It would kill her, surely if it continued. She would have to commit suicide tragically orresign herself to a life in seclusion, especially if anyone saw her. She cursed under her breath, but this gave the dreadful thing a chance to come out. She gasped as she tried to stop it but it was too late!

It was so embarrassing! Lady ex-spies did NOT hiccup. Swooning tragically, she hid behind a mailbox and bemoaned her cruel fate.

Alexander was strolling down the street, red electric guitar slung across his back. He was humming a few bars from a song he was writing:
----------It's cherry and it's little,
----------Kinda short and kinda cute,
----------And there's a shiny white hair through the center...
Well, it was a work in progress, anyway.
Alex was a wrocker. Short for wizard rocker. Wrocking was his destiny. There was a story behind this, and he'd be happy to tell you if you asked. But since you hadn't asked, he wasn't planning on telling you. Alex wasn't rude like that.
He was just passing a mailbox when there was a sudden squeaky sound behind him. Alex turned, looking for the source of the sound: another mouse was there, swooning and looking thoroughly upset with herself. Strange, he hadn't thought a lot of particularly tragic/life-threatening things could happen here. But here was this mouse, with an expression as doomed as Juliet's must have been. Huh.

Looking surprised at seeing anybody else here, Milly jumped up into a ladylike position, posture perfectly striaght, and treid harder not to hiccup. Not daring to talk, she nodded to the other mouse and waved, face turning red with effort. "Mmm." she said, trying to sound gracious. "Hiccup!" She stomped her foot. "Oh blast, blast, blast!"

Alexander stepped a little closer, puzzled. "You okay?" he asked. "Might wanna breathe there." Breathing was always a good idea. Always. If you didn't breathe, you couldn't sing! Or talk or live or... well, yeah. Fiddling with the knot on his tie, Alex took a few steps closer. "Hey." He casually offered a hand for shaking. "I'm Alexander - Alex for short. What'cha up to here?"

Milly accepted fate and stood up. After all, he was GOOD looking and he didn't seem to notice. She dusted herself off. "I am fine, thank you." she said with what she hoped was graceful demure tones. She blushed when he came closer to shake her hand, but shook it anyway, in the limp way she practiced to throw people off guard about her past life and also because she thought that was how society ladies did it. "My name is Linnea Millicent Newsden. Call -hic!- me Milly." She looked around. Saying she was hiding from being seen with hiccups would be embarrassing. So she lied. "I'm mailing a -hic!- letter." she said pragmatically.
