~ mother ~ NAME -:- Shiya Muerte AGE ~*~ 22 GENDER -:- female SPECIES ~*~ unknown OCCUPATION -:- comp tech/health teacher PERSONALITY ~*~ Easily amused and pretty laid back. Forgiving but excitable. Sociable. DESCRIPTION -:- Long brown hair, in a braid. Dress is fairly casual; jeans and a t-shirt outside of work, black slacks and a classy long-sleeved dress shirt in work. Wears a watch, a pair of hoops, and a ring on her left thumb as her only jewelry. AIDEN'S THOUGHTS ~*~ She adopted me, and we get along fairly well, but... we haven't really been together long enough for me to make any conclusive decisions. She seems pretty fun, though!

August 24, 2005 -- Only a few days after taking the job teaching health and being this new school's computer tech, Iaaaoh came to visit me, saying something about me adopting a Psy... I had come to understand that Psys were the children we were going to be teaching here. They have special powers, and their birth parents are unable (( or perhaps unwilling? )) to continue with their care. I guess it's up to people like me to assume that responsibility. So it is that I've come upon Aiden Daire. Daire was his birth family's last name, and I saw no reason to change it. Maybe he'll be Muerte-Daire or just Muerte later, when he becomes old enough to decide on his own, but for now he'll stay with the name his mother gave him before she died. In any case, I had no idea what I was getting into when I agreed! As soon as I had filled out some paperwork, Iaaaoh put this bouncing bundle of joy into my arms... Though, I use "bouncing" loosely and "joy" only on the occasion when he's not turning the room into an inferno! He's a little pyromaniac, I swear it. Though he seems not to hurt himself in the process, the burns all over his body show that this was a hard-learned lesson. Or perhaps he didn't develop some kind of invulnerability until now? Still, I have to find a way to dissuade him from using his powers until he can go to school and learn to use them properly. Until then, I think I'll have a fire extinguisher on hand at all times. Better safe than sorry!

August 31, 2005 -- Thank whatever gods happen to be looking down on me. Aiden seems to have realized that I don't enjoy his fireworks as much as he does, so he's doing them less and less often, though he does still set fire to things sometimes on accident. Though, he doesn't seem to be communicating verbally much at all... Mostly, he just points at what he wants, and I get it for him. However, he understands me just fine, since I talk to him often. I don't think anything's wrong with him, though, because he knows the word, "No!" at the very least! I think he might just be quiet, which is a mixed blessing. Though, I have to wonder if he'll stay that way as he develops, or turn into a loud and talkative youngling as he develops? It's really too soon to tell, right now... Ah, well. Just one more thing to look forward to if you have a child, I guess. His fire abilities might be in mostly working order, though he has some trouble controlling them, but he hasn't yet developed any other talents. I can only hope he'll hold off until he's a toddler, so he can go to school and learn how to control them before he has the chance to let them get out of control. That might be wishful thinking on my part, however. Aiden's crying, so I'd better go check and see what's wrong...

Figuring out what it was that Aiden wanted didn't exactly take long. What with his emphatic pointing at the changing table and the sour face he wore, it didn't really take a rocket scientist. Shiya screwed up her face and took care of the issue, restraining a slight gag reflex throughout.
She couldn't *wait* until Aiden was potty trained.
Afterwards, she set him on the floor, and he grinned and set off at a speedy crawl towards the play area that had been set out for him in a corner. It contained some large Duplo Legos that he couldn't possibly eat, a few stuffed animals, and a musical spinning annoyance that drove Shiya absolutely crazy after the fifteenth repeat of "Ring Around the Rosey." Aiden being Aiden, this is the first thing he headed for.
Sighing, Shiya steeled her resolve and sat down in a large and comfortable dark purple recliner-- situated along with a couch of similar color in front of the large, wall-mounted TV-- with a book, with all intentions of tuning out the music by immersing herself into the fictional world. It took a bit of concentration to ignore the music, but not all noise entirely; after all, if Aiden got into trouble, she had to know immediately. However, this was a talent she had been developing ever since she adopted the little boy, and she was becoming fairly skilled at it.
