You know, I was thinking we probably need a better method to portray math on Gaia. I mean when it gets to things like subscripts and superscripts, greek variables, calculus operators like integrals and such, using the Gaia's plain unicode text box might just prove to confuse the person asking for help even more. D:

Perhaps we should provide help in the manner of images. Using MS Paint or photoshop to write out the problems and solutions. I actually have the perfect thing for that, which is a tablet, (a device that allows you to use a pen to control the cursor to write on programs (ie MSPaint) and other such things in the screen) but I lost the tablet pen for a second time, so I'm afraid I can't use that. >____>;; But yeah. What do you guys think? Should we just type out answers or find some better way to portray mathematical ideas?

"Weirdness makes the world go 'round...

Yeah, I was thinking that when it got impossible to actually type it I would write it out and scan it and upload it and send it as a picture...

So far though, I've been able to manage just typing, like for subscripts, I put them in {} and superscripts get ^ and square roots get put to the fractional powers...I guess I just say what something means, if it doesn't look like it's supposed to. whee

...and duct-tape holds it together."

Yeah, but sometimes, some people have a learning style is more visual and graphical than others. They might have a harder time just understanding the concepts and such unless they're represented in a visual manner.

I was looking around and I think perhaps one solution might be to use a math program. I tried out X3 LiveMath maker a while ago, and it represents problems quite nicely. Unfortunately, you can only download it for a thirty day trial.

There is a large list of math programs here. So perhaps a few people can test them out and say review them. =]

Yeah...which is why I figured I'd just scan something in.

I'm proficient with LaTeX so I can make really nice looking PDFs with any kind of math equations. Don't really know how to make a pdf a jpg though

OK I think we just hit on some gold here people.
With the list of those maths help sites we should probably make a post rating them so if anyone was looking for that kind of help they can find a half decent one. Like my sister who cant do graphs uses graph matica which is pretty good but I think there are better ones.

Try to find an image hosting site that supports .pdfs.
Also, with the tablet pen conundrum, a DS stylus might work.
On mine, anything plastic works.. It's hxc.
