Going Outside
The dark room, the paper wall, the doorway into nothingness... How many times has he tried to escape? How many times has he reached for that hand? How many times... has he failed to join her in going outside?
Kakyo Kuzuki's life has been nothing more than an endless dream for almost as long as he can remember now. Every time his hand fazes through hers again, his hope dies a little more. Will he ever be able to join her... in going outside?

In the darkness of his dreams, there was a sudden bright flash of colors in the corner of Kakyo's eye. He glanced over from his spot against the paper wall and looked painfully into her deep brown eyes. "Hokuto..."

Hokuto's bright smile seemed to light up the entire world as she looked at Kakyo. "Hi Kakyo! How have you been? Its great seeing you again. "

"The future of this world grows a little darker each and every day, Hokuto," Kakyo stated, frowning slightly. "Can you please... help me to forget about that all... if only for a short while?"

"Very well then. Allow me to grant your wish," Kakyo closed his eyes and concentrated, changing the dreamscape to the bright sunny beaches which he had come to love.

"Thank you so much Kakyo." Hokuto looked around at the beach and took a deep breath through her nose. "I just love the smell of the ocean! And the sound of the waves too! Why do you like this place Kakyo!?"

"Because it means something special to you," Kakyo stated simply. He stood up and walked across the beach to join her, enjoying the feeling of the sand beneath his feet and the heat of the sun on his skin. "It provides a nice contrast to that dreary place as well..." Kakyo's mind was still stuck in that room of darkness with the single paper wall.

"You shouldn't let things get you down so much Kakyo!!! Afterall, you know that I will always be here for you, so you'll never be alone!" Hokuto smiled brightly at Kakyo. The light of her smile was as bright as a headlight to a deer.

"The future is never actually certain I believe Kakyo. Just trust that the best outcome will happen and work for what you believe." Hokuto smiled, not being eccentric for once.
