Mahora Ampitheater

[Shade-chan]

The Mahora Amphitheater lies under the shadow of the great World Tree. Built almost practically on top of it's roots, the amphitheater is a simple affair consisting of a covered stage with some changing rooms at the back, faced by three semi-circles of ascending benches. The amphitheater is usually empty these days, although in the mornings some people use it for exercise and martial arts practice. It's very removed from rest of Mahora, and an ideal place if you're looking for privacy. It's so far from anywhere, people say you could practically have a war here and no one would notice...

Hence, really strong Heartless tend to pop up here. Behemoths are not unknown, and Sorcerer Nobodies tend to hang around...

Fexick burst out from an orb of light and landed in the center of the amphitheater. He looked around, noting that the surrounding stands were empty. When a few Heartless strolled by, it became apparent why. Rafiel emerged shortly after, and landed next to Fexick. He looked around, and took a deep breath. A satisfied smile crawled across his face. "Well, this is it. What do you think?" Fexick shrugged. "Save a few Heartless, this place seems about normal. I can't feel any magic at all."

"Oho, is that right? Perhaps you should focus on learning some magic. Perhaps then the spirits will not forsake you to the ways of sensing magical auras." "Is there any way you can have a conversation without demeaning the other person's abilities?" "Just saying, especially here, it wouldn't hurt to learn some magic. Spells are easier to cast in this atmosphere, so learning should be easy. If Kyouran and Lady Hikari choose to stay for a while, there is a place an old friend of mine owns where magic fills the very air you breath. She isn't around very often, so I doubt she will fret over us using her resort. Good old Evangeline."

"Evangeline? The girl we came here with?" "Oh my no! Our Miss Evangeline is a kind young elf. The one I am friends with is a vampire." Fexick stared blankly at Rafiel, waiting for the others to show up.

Rafiel saw the look Kyouran was giving him. He smiled politely. "My friend, please don't judge me as the bad guy all the time. I wouldn't steal Eva's book of secret arts from you. She needs that." He looked up at the passing clouds, then back at Kyouran out of the corner of his eye. "Besides, the kind girl already taught me most of the spells contained within those pages anyway. Most darkness and ice, her specialties."

Fexick was looking at Hikari to make sure she was okay. Then he gave some thought to what Rafiel said. If he could learn some magic, it could help him. After all, the most that he was good for was close-range combat. If somebody attacked him from far off and kept their distance, there wasn't much he could do. Then a random thought crossed his mind. "Hey Kyouran? Where's Uxila? I could've sworn I told him to come with us."

"Best as well sir Uxila doesn't show. In this place, dispite all the Heartless, they aren't hostile. The high magic consentration here has had an effect on the Heartless similar to cat-n**'s effect on cats. They're all in a jolly stupor, too oblivious to attack anything. They cannot even teleport themselves. My point is that the locals believe that they're just a bunch of people in costumes preparing for an upcoming festival. Accordingly, we can't do anything that could draw attention to ourselves. These people are completely normal, and have no connection to magic or Keyblades. These "mundanes" as they are called cannot know about our arts, so I implore you to rely on martial arts if you must resort to violence at all."

"Nagi's son?" Rafiel thought for a moment. "When last I saw young Negi, he was slightly stronger than when he saved Lady Asuna from the clutches of the demon king. But when compared to Eva, I'm affraid he only meets the half-way mark. On the upside, he has thirty plus ministra magi that can back him up." Rafiel then recalled the festival Kyouran mentioned. Negi and Eva often entered that toutnament in their adult forms. Negi had matured into quite a fine combat mage. Rafiel looked at Fexick, then at Kyouran.

"You two should become combat mages. It'll add to your current skills and make you even stronger." Fexick stared at him blankly again. 'Combat mage' wasn't exactly a term he'd heard thrown around too often. "Combat mage?" "Indeed. There are two main classifications of mages. The first is my variety, the Traditional Mage. We rely on long-range spells and leave the close range stuff to out ministra magi. Although I don't have a ministra, I can still keep close enemies at bay with certain spells. The second classification is known as a Combat Mage. These people rely on magic for long-range, and at the same time can use swords and other such close range weapons to fight alongside their ministra. That's what I figured you two would be best suited to."

"Great but... what's a ministra magi?" "Oh yes, of course. If you master certain spells and actually become a mage, you are what's known as a magister magi. Your ministra magi is like a partner. When certain conditions are met, you form a contract with that person and they can fight with you." "What sorts of conditions?"

"A kiss?!" Just Fexick's luck. He was terrible with women, talking to them anyway. Or at least the case was with women he liked. He likely didn't need a ministra. Best as well if that's what had to be done. "Wait, so this Negi kid has over thirty of these contracts? What a player!" Rafiel shook his head.

"No, no. That was so they could all fend off an army of demons and save a young woman named Asuna. It's been a good seven years since then though, and I think Negi is the only one still here. But of course, Miss Miyazaki got a job here at Library Island. The dean is still up and kicking. For a human, he sure has lived a long time." He laughed as he thought of what the dean must look like after all this time. Human aging was humorous to him, as they lacked the ability to keep their figures from when they were in their prime. He turned to Kyouran.

"As for Miss Konoe, she has been coming here every so often to practice her healing magic at Eva's Resort. She has gotten much better, and can now even bring organisms back from death, provided f course they haven't been dead for any more than a few minutes. And regarding that spell, I've crafted my own version as well. If you so desire, I would be more than happy to show you the basics."

Rafiel nodded. "It's an old spell, and I was quite young when she taught it to me. I've had many years to perfect it, so much so that it does not weaken me nor the spell itself." Most of his magicks were learned here. After leaving Woodlock, Rafiel wanted to learn more. That's when his path crossed with Eva's. In exchange for a few "erands" she taught him a lot of her spells. He also learned one of the Thousand Masters's moves from her; the Axe of Zeus.

Fexick didn't like being out of the loop, not if he was going to be a mage too. "Somebody wanna fill me in here?"

"Also, I'm not too sure about Eva, but in my case, those forementioned physical changes are often the essence of the spell. For example, if I absorb a fire spell, my body will gain some properties of fire." Fexick nodded. "Sounds powerful." "Oh my yes, but one must know how to use it, or it could have deadly repercussions." Fexick was interested in this whole magic thing. He knew Sora could do some magic, but he never knew there was stuff like this around. "And those magic ball attacks that you always use Rafiel? What's that called?" "That would be Sagitta Magica. You conjure up magical arrows in prime number incriments, and send them at the enemy. It's a preferably basic spell, one you could learn at the magic academy in Woodlock."

"I can see that. There seems to be much more variety out here. So Sagitta Magica... I'll assume 'sagitta' means arrows?" "Correct. Magica is the word for magic. Flammeus is fire, aqua is water, vente is wind, glacia is ice, and fulgor is lightning. There are also light and dark spells, but we should save that until after you cover the basics." Fexick nodded. That made sense. No point in starting off with more than he could chew. He thought it similar to preparing your arms to use swords. If you're a beginner and use more weights than your arms can handle, you'll only hurt them.
