Mitsubishi seems to be going for building a car that falls in between their regular Lancer, and the Evo. While it's pretty odd to see a hatchback Lancer, I have to say it looks quite good (if the actual concept looks like the sketch). Supercars.net Article

Wow what a nice car. hopefully this car will have a little more room than the Lancer X. I was able to fit in one but it fit me like a glove. I hope they go with the tinted window like in the sketch or at least offer them. The headlights are amazing to i hope those dont' change at all either. I really like this design it's really working for Mitsu.

Maybe they are, maybe not. It's important to remember that this is not an EVO. It's just a Lancer hatch.
It's also important to remember that both the new Lancer and the new WRX, in base and performance models, are a strong departure from the old formula used to design them. They are much more... Pedestrian. Far as I'm concerned, both models are dead to me as representatives of hardcore racing cars.

i don't think that the intention was for the prototype S to be a hard core racing Car in the first place. Doesn't mean that it doesn't have a racing feel. biggrin

I dunno I think that they look kinda simalar. there has been a lot of huge changes but i think it's the same car at heart. The Evo X may be a little more grown up but Mitsubishi is starting to try and bring the Evo to a more open market. It's not better than the 6 or the 8 in my opinion but i do still think that it looks very much like an Evo.

psyco_bongun22 the mitsibishi lancer evo doesn't look similar to the actual mitsubishi lancer anymore.... crying crying crying It's not. Just ask Kaito. He's got this info up in another thread somewhere around here. The Lancer is no longer sold in Japan, and the Lancer sold here in the US is actually the new Galant over there. Apparently they still call the EVO the Lancer Evo, though. Go figure that one out. If you look at previous Galants, this car does look way more like a Galant than a Lancer.

Well, it is kinda sad that the newest Evolution isn't based upon a chassis grade, nor is it as rally tuned as it once was.
On the other hand, by building a car that is built to appeal to a much broader market, the result has much better quality, and overall, is a better car.
Personally, the newest Lancer Evo (along with the GT-R and WRX STi), are more than capable enough to live up to their predecessors, and their heritage.

I don't think that the new evo is a fast as the evo 6 or 8 but it's on par with the Evo 9 just without the turbo lag.

_Z_Gouken So basically they want to compete with the new WRX. Great. the EVO and STi are always competing, its not new at all. and in the end, the STi usually ends up with more understeer, and the evo wins the prize

I mean the car is more than capable enough to deliver the same thrilling feeling that their predecessors did. oh yeah no doubt in my mind it will give you the same thrill. See what i like about the evo X is that it's a more clean cut car (not to say that the previous Evos wheren't stylish i'm just saying that the Evo X looks a little more like a well polished car rather than a rally beast) than the previous Evos now a lot of people don't like that because they think that the Evo has gone soft. However like you said it does have the same feeling as the previous Evos but now If you have a formal job a least now your not driving a full blown Road going Rally legend to work. Sorry for misinterpriting your post.
