As I mentioned "alternative fiction" in another thread, I thought I would start one. For anyone who may not be familiar with the term, alternative fiction is basically any story that breaks the boundaries of conventional love (male and female), and focuses on same-sex love, like in the Nightrunner series. I thought maybe it would be nice to discuss any other books we've come across that could be classified as alternative fiction. I haven't found too many, but I'll mention the few that I have read:
The Persian Boy by Mary Renault Cry to Heaven by Ann Rice Cat Toy by Illian Obsidian (cat people FTW!!!!!!!)
... There's one I read, I can't remember the title OR the author though... It has to do with a prince who can communicate with his ancestors through a "mirror", but the mirror is actually any liquid surface like water (or in one scene, pee >.<)

I happen to read a lot of alternative fiction books. Most of them are young adult books directed to teens, but I feel that anyone can read and enjoy them. Besides the Nightrunner series, I have these alternative fantasy books:
The Last Herald-Mage series by Mercades Lackey Swordpoint by Ellen Kushner
Then, these are the young adult books I've read:
Kissing Kate by Lauren Myracle Geography Club by Brent Hartinger Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan The Year of the Ice by Brian Malloy Luna, Keeping you a Secret, and Xanadu by Julie Anne Peters So Hard To Say, Rainbow Boys, Rainbow High, and Rainbow Road by Alex Sanchez

Xanadu!!!!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE that book!!!! Another one I've read a few times is Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. (Not necessarily alternative fiction, but has quite of bit of homosexual undertones and hints... just look at how Basil idolizes him ^^) My mum was surprised when she saw me reading it the first time because she had to read it in high school and said she hated it LOL.

I love alternative fiction. XD I haven't read too many books of the genre, though, unfortunately. I'm still trying to build up my collection. I have read:
The Last Herald-Mage trilogy by Mercedes Lackey (Have yet to finish the third book; I need to go back and reread them again) Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner The Smoke trilogy by Tanya Huff Dream Boy by Jim Grimsley (Actually still reading; it's a tiny book, but I didn't look into it before I bought it and I'm not enjoying it that much, as I'm not big on the type of fiction set in the early-mid 1900s kind of thing)
And there's also The Chosen by Ricardo Pinto, but I'm not even halfway through it yet (though I am enjoying it). I thought there was more, but (as I wrote in my post in "What other book series do you read?") my niece is sleeping in the room and the light is off so I can't see my bookshelf too well. ;P I'll come back to this. ^^

Another book I've read that I just remembered is Empress of the World by Sara Ryan. It was very cute, and I'm currently in search of the sequel (which is called The Rules for Hearts).
