I'm interested to see what everyone else reads. Obviously we all like fantasy and alternative fiction, but what other genres do you like?

I'm a HUGE Harry Potter geek (and proud of it!), I've read the books several times each... I even cried about 10 times when I read the final book the first time >.< I also like the Acorna series, because it blends sci-fi with fantasy in a surprisingly good mix. Some of my other favourite reads are the His Dark Materials series (can't wait for the next book!), The Chosen of the Changling books, and the Catwings books (which I've loved ever since I was about 8 LOL).
There's LOTS more books I love, but I thought maybe this would be enough to start off a thread smile

I've read the Harry Potter series, I liked it but it's not my favorite series. For series I've read:

The Last Herald-Mage series
The Rainbow series (Ok, well this series doesn't really have a name, that's just what I call it.)
Maximum Ride series
The Belgariad and The Mallorean series. Both by David Eddings

I completely forgot to list them >.< I love those books, they're fantastic.

I heart The Last Herald-Mage series! These books were the very first alternative fantasy series I read. 3nodding

Cry to Heaven was my first one... I'm a huge Ann Rice fan. I didn't even know it had m/m sex in it, I thought it was just going to be another book where she just brushed over homosexual sex, but WOW! Such an amazing read!

Once I recover from my recent book buying spree this month, Cry to Heaven will probably be on the top of my list of books to search for.

It's a really good book (in my opinion). If you're not used to to Ann Rice's writing styles, it may not sit well with you though >.<

Cry to Heaven was my first one

Haha, I've had that on my shelf for over a year now and I've still only read the first couple of chapters. I have too many books I need to read. domokun

I'm a total Potterhead. XD I cry every time I reread the series starting with book five (although after the fourth movie I started liking the Cedric/Harry pairing and so I cried during the fourth book the next time I read it XD), because -insert character here- is my favourite and... well, you know who bites it in that one. crying And then, yeah. Traumatizing deaths and scenes. But I also cry very easily. XD; Just a great series in general, and dear to me because I grew up with Harry, quite literally; I read the first book when I was eleven years old, which is how old Harry is at the start, and I was almost always the same age as him as I read the books. ^^

I mostly have a lot of single books living on my bookshelf, but the series I do have I love, and they would be:

Old Kingdom by Garth Nix (I just love Sabriel!)
Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice (Mmm, vampires ^_^)
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
The Smoke trilogy by Tanya Huff (Mmm, more vampires :3 I like Tanya Huff; she lives half an hour away from me, and my dad met her before. crying I wanna meet her~)
The Last Herald-Mage trilogy by Mercedes Lackey (I still need to finish the third book, though! I got halfway through XD)

Umm, I think that's pretty much it for series (Nightrunner is a given ;3). My niece is asleep in the room right now and so the light is off and I can't see my bookcase too well (which is also my excuse for any misspellings of author names). XD I need to get cracking on my reading; I probably have about twenty unread books on my shelf, and the thought pains me. XD Other books I like are Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card (it just really mesmerized me, and the ending shocked me!), Angels & Demons by Dan Brown (I still need to read my copy of The DaVinci Code...), Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol (classic!), Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner (just beautiful), and I haven't managed to get quite halfway through it yet because I have a bad habit of putting down a book I've been reading in favour of a book I recently bought, but The Chosen by Ricardo Pinto is really quite lovely. It's such a strange world, and I like it. It also falls into "alternative," as the summaries for the books I read mention dear Carnelian telling his father he found himself a boyfriend. :3

I pretty much stick to fantasy and selective science fiction (not into aliens, but I love futuristic settings and things like that), and general fiction/classic literature. I read books to take me to another world, so non-fiction holds no interest for me. ^^

I'm about half way throught The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks. It's the first book of the Night Angel Trilogy, and I'm already in love with it. I'm absolutely in love with Jarl, but whenever he comes up in the book I want to cry because of his situation. It's a great read so far, hopefully it will continue that way too.

Another series I'm about halfway through, I think, is the Kiesha'Ra series by Amelia Atwater Rhodes. I had read the first two about four years ago, Falconsong, and Snakecharm. But I was so upset by something that happened in the second one, that I couldn't even look at the books until recently. I just finished the third one, Falcondance a couple weeks ago.
