Since before the dawn of human time, gargoyles had ruled the castle with many decades and eras under their belts. During the early years, those with powers, tremendous and terrible, descended from very odd mutations within the genes of the parents, surpassed all other goyals and were seen as 'gifts from the heavens themselves'. For with their powers, they could easily protect the clan from outside dangers, and were revelled for many years as guardians.
This changed however when some started to abuse their power, and ultimately the gargoyles became fearful for their own lives. It was then decided that ultimate authority would be given to the top Hunter and the Top Warrior. At the time, few opposed the new law... all except for those who had a greedy touch and vowed to destroy the clan. They were put to death by the other gods and goddesses, whose soul duty was to protect the clan.
Later, when all orginals had died off and others with the 'divine gift' took over, this happened for many generations despite the prolonged lives of the divine, there came the issue of power once again. The gods and goddesses thought they deserved more respect than simple guardians, and so the goyals decided that they were right. The Divine where truely special, and deserved respect within the clan. For many years they were reveared as important and influencial individuals, however still subject to gargoyle law.
Everything changed when the humans came. Some opposed the creatures living in the caslte, others saw it as a unigue bond between the two races. This was the subject that drove the gods and goddesses to constantly argue, fight, and manipulate one another. It was then that some rose to power and banished the others from ever coming into the castle, after a rather bloody war between followers and goyals alike. They were, of course, as flawed as they however, for they too had sentenced many a goyal to death during the war. One who had strayed from all fighting, the God of the Sun, banished the rest of the Devine, before turning himself permantly to stone for fear he too would one day become corrupt. From that day on, the sun has never shown itself on the land of the gargoyles.
