OMG you guys have to see the anime "Samurai Champloo"!!!!
ITS FREAKING AWESOME!!!
its about these two samurai and when they meet they try to kill each other.
somehow they end up with a young girl named Fuu and the story progresses from there.
SEE IT!!! I COMMAND YOU TO!

Here's my recommendation:
Either KoiKoi7 (it's a guy's anime, seriously) or, if you're really into action, but subtle romance, Blood Plus+.
I know that Blood Plus+ is already something of common sorts, but it is a really good anime/manga.
Or, if fantasy is what your into, then Hibiki's Magic and Mamotte!Lollipop is cool too.
And lastly, for you that are into school-based anime, Shugo-Chara is pretty awesome.

Plot Summary: Twelve-year old Aoyagi Ritsuka is left with his insane mother as his only family when his brother, Seimei, is killed suddenly. Ritsuka eventually discovers that Soubi and Seimei used to be a fighting pair, whereby Soubi was the "Fighter" and Seimei was the "Sacrifice". Now that Seimei is gone, Ritsuka has inherited Soubi, who will become his "Fighter". After learning that Seimei was killed by an organization known as the "Seven Moons", Ritsuka decides to investigate into his brother's death, with the sometimes useless help of Soubi, along the way.

Personal Review: A great story, but very fuzzy towards the end. Found myself asking many questions that they had no intentions of answering; many dealing with the main story. If you wish to be interested, I suggest the manga. It may only be in black and white, but the story is a lot more interesting, and is one male and females can share, ignoring the light boy love theme. All unfinished stories behind: I do recommend this, considering it's only 12 episodes long.

but i think Loveless has a pretty good plot... is aoyagi a girl or boy?
cuz the drawings are really shojo-ish...

Personal Review: I liked this one a lot. Actually bought it by accident while Christmas shopping- my boyfriend thinking it was Lain. [It had a sticker across the cover saying "By the makers of Lain"] Was interested just because of who made it. The first episode threw me off a bit. Thought it was a 'new age' hentai at first. After watching a few more episodes, the story started to develop.
Yes, it's slow, but the story is quite deep. There are many long silent pauses-- but it's similar to Lain, what do you expect?
Over all, the story kept me quite interested, and the ending had me on the edge of my seat. I'm actually amazed this one isn't very popular in the mainstream anime world.

Eight months later Haseo emerged as a powerful PKKer known as the "Terror of Death", hunting for a strange PKer known only as Tri-Edge who had placed his close friend Shino into a coma six months earlier. Finally encountering Tri-Edge, Haseo was defeated by a strange attack called Data Drain. This attack reset his character back at level 1, however it also awoke a strange power that had been sleeping deep inside of him. This power, the ability to summon an entity known as Skeith drew the attention of a secret organization known as G.U.. As a new member of G.U. Haseo swore to find the truth of what was occurring in The World and find the truth about Tri-Edge.

Personal Review: I've actually been accused of being obsessed with this series. I've currently been taking time out of my life for just this (IE: Eating, sleeping, significant other) The art is good, the story is awesome, and there is a character for everyone. Haven't played the original .Hack series? Don't worry. You wont really fall be hind. You'll just miss out on like quirks from the original version of [The World]
I recommend this to anyone who likes RPG or decent games.
Note: The .Hack//ROOTS anime did come before the game.
