Hostis Humani Generis

(Sorry to abuse admin powers by stickying this, I just need to do that so I remember that I have the topic here. I'll unsticky it come February twelfth.)

Well, in Spanish III, we recently finished reading a couple select chapters from Don Quixote de La Mancha. Afterwards we watched "Man of La Mancha".

Now that we're done, we've started a project. We had a few choices on what to do.
1) Act out and record a Don Quixote scene of your own creation.
2) Write and perform a rap or song based on the story.
3) Read a chapter of Don Quixote de La Mancha that was not read in class, then illustrate it.
4) Read and summarize a chapter of Don Quixote de La Mancha that was not read in class.
5) Your own idea, after having Señora's approval.

I obviously chose number five. I decided to write an alternate ending to the story.

The point? The first rough draft may be finished this weekend, or sooner, depending. I'll post it here for any suggestions, or just for the sake of posting.
Then the second rough draft will be improved and posted.
Then the third will be simplified and posted here. (It needs to be simplified since I have to translate it to Spanish, and I need to refrain from using too many words we don't know. I can put the definitions at the end if it's necessary to stay that way, but it gets to be a pain if that list gets too long.)

More details will be released with time.

Due date: February eleventh

I will both enjoy and dread writing this.

(My memory's too terrible to reply in Spanish. >.<) Yes, to my dismay. Though I just need the final version in Spanish, since she doesn't care if rough drafts are in Spanish or not. It's going to be extremely basic once translated, primarily present tense, with past tense and other such stuff as necessary.

Translating's such a pain, too. I can't use an online translator, as it tends to use tenses and such that we haven't learned. It's a good thing I still have my notes and sheets from Spanish I and II, elsewise I'd be doomed.

Well, we have learned quite a few. But my memory, or lack thereof, is too horrendous to remember what tenses we learned, much less how to use them.

Well, my plans went down the drain as usual. Here's the English version. I should have the translation done in a few hours. (And don't tell me this is cliché, because I know it is.)

Don Quixote and the Evil Enchanter

Our hero, Don Quixote, after having remembered his life as a knight errant thanks to Dulcinea, now rides off towards the bright afternoon sun. Nearby, at the Quixano house, we see Dulcinea waving farewell and hear Alonso’s niece shouting cries of protest.
Sancho, feeling guilty for leaving so abruptly, confronts his master. “Señor, was this wise? You may still be too weak to head off.”
Don Quixote scoffed. “You know that the most important thing to me is my quest, Sancho. I can not lay and rest while evil is up and walking.”
“But after putting out the fire there will still be ashes.”
“Then we must put the fire out quickly so that it does not spread and make more ashes.”
Sancho said nothing as he reflected his master’s wise words.
Almost an hour later, Don Quixote and Sancho notice a crooked figure walking in circles a little ways off.
“What is that?” asked Sancho.
Don Quixote stared intently as they drew nearer. Soon we see that the crooked figure is actually a hunched old man. He was dressed in dark rags and leaned heavily on his walking stick as he walked.
The man saw Don Quixote and turned toward him. “Oh! You wear armor! So you must be a knight then?” The old man coughed slightly. “That’s wonderful, because I need some help. You see, I’m looking for a man named Malador. Do you know who he is?”
Don Quixote shook his head. “No, we have not. Who is he?”
“Who is who?”
“Malador.”
“Hello! My name is Malador. Who are you?”
Don Quixote’s patience wore thin. “My name is Don Quixote, and I am a knight errant. Unless you need help, I am leaving. I must find the evil enchanter.”
“Heh heh heh heh heh! But I am Malador. Malador the evil enchanter.”
Don Quixote was furious. “To think I was unable to see through your guise! Prepare yourself, foul one!”
“Señor, wait!” Sancho interrupted. “He is just a senile old man. He does not know what he is saying. There is no need to swat a bee that has no stinger.”
“Do not be foolish, Sancho! The enchanter is clever. This is a trick to make us let down our guards.”
“But—“
“Enough! There is neither time nor reason for talk!” Don Quixote faced the old man. “You’ve breathed your last breath, enchanter!”
Don Quixote tried to get Rosinante to charge, but she wouldn’t move.
“Even my own steed defies me?!” Don Quixote got down, annoyed. “Very well. I shall defeat you on foot if I must!”
“Is that so? Heh heh heh heh heh! You think you can?” Malador said, mockingly.
Don Quixote started running towards the cackling old man. Just as Don Quixote was close enough to strike, Malador swung his walking stick and hit him across the head. Don Quixote fell, unconscious.
Sancho hurried over to aid his master, but Malador swung his walking stick once more and hit Sancho on the head, knocking him out.
“Oh my! Heh heh heh heh heh! That was easy.” The old man walked away, laughing now and again.

Several hours later, Sancho and Don Quixote awoke.
“Where is he?!” shouted Don Quixote. “Where is the enchanter?!”
“Señor, he must have left.” Sancho said.
Don Quixote was silent for a moment. “Come, Sancho. We must find him.”
“But how? He left no trace.”
“Then we ride until we find him.”
“One should not head for new lands without a map…” Sancho said to himself.

And so, Don Quixote and Sancho ride off toward the setting sun, in search of the evil enchanter. Who knows what new adventures await?

Heh, I'll have the translated version up sometime tomorrow.

It's going to suck, though, since I effectively bastardize the language when I try to translate anything to it from English.

For now, I'm off to bed. I'm up far too late for my own good.

It's supposed to be present tense there, so "ride" is what I was going for.

And dun hit de Dunkelheit! *looks for human shield*
