Post 3: Submitted songs

Male Songs:

Name: Breeze off the River
Artist/Show: The Full Monty
Gender: Male
Length: 2:40
Song Type: Solo Ballad
Vocal Range: ??? I'm not good with vocal ranges
What's it ment for: It's a sweet song with a fairly good range (but not too crazy), so it would probably be good for a dramatic play.

Name: Grow For Me
Artist/Show: Little Shop of Horrors
Gender: Male
Length: 2:59
Song Type: Solo Ballad, I believe
Vocal Range: See above song sweatdrop
What's it ment for: It has a pretty good range. Kinda tough notes for those you who can hit them. There is a bit of acting in it too, so it's good to show off with.

Name: The Colors of my Life
Show: Barnum
Gender: Half for female, half for male, but either one could sing the whole thing through, and it wouldn't sound wierd.
Song type: There are two parts two it, and those are sung solo, but in the show by two different people.
Vocal range: um...The first part is for male, so its lower, but then the second part can go up high.
What's it meant for: This couple are expressing how they see the world. The man (P.T. Barnum) sees the world in bright colors. Reds, kelly greens, bright yellow. And his wife, in her part, after he's gone, sings that she sees the world in more earthy tones, like browns, silver-grey, sage, amber. It's an amazing song when sung well.

Female Songs:

Name: One Day More
Artist/Show:Les Miserables
Gender: either
Length: a few minutes, depending on how much of it you sing
Song Type: it's supposed to be for several people, but if you sing different parts, you can sing alone
Vocal Range: you can find it for any!
What's it ment for: anything.

Name: I dreamed a dream
Artist/Show:Les Miserables
Gender: female
Length: 3 minutes
Song Type: um..
Vocal Range: soprano part, but saying that it does go quite low so it would be good for range
What's it ment for: sad, you need lots of song acting if you sing this one.

Name: on my own
Artist/Show:Les Miserables
Gender: female
Length: 3 minutes (depending on wether or not you cut the monolouge at the beggining.
Song Type: monolouge
Vocal Range: alto part, but this song doesn't go too low
What's it ment for: anything.

Name: Popular
Artist/Show: Kristen Chenoweth- Wicked
Gender: female (though I'm sure it could easily be altered for guys...)
Length: oh geez... 3 minutes maybe...
Song Type: it's been called a "list" song, if that means anything... solo, when the speaking parts are cut out.
Vocal Range: alto, I guess... the notes don't seem to go very high
What's it meant for: comedic/silly... it's about how to become popular, for goodness sakes!

Name: Tell Me On A Sunday
Artist/Show: either Tell Me On A Sunday or Song and Dance. It's an Andrew Lloyd Webber song, which probably helps more...
Gender: female
Length: 5 minutes-ish... maybe...
Song Type: solo ballady thing
Vocal Range: I think it's supposed to be for soprano, but I'm an alto and I made it work. Also, no one seems to know the song, so if you don't need sheet music for accompanyment, or anything that gives the particular notes away, you can probably make it fit for just about anything...
What's it meant for: range, I guess...

Name: Not for the Life of Me
Artist/Show: Thoroughly Modern Millie
Gender: Female
Length: 2:10
Song Type: Solo starts out slow and goes faster.
Vocal Range: I'm terrible at this
What it's ment for: Well, it's good to show character and there are (again) some great notes in there.

Name: What I Did For Love
Show: A Chorus Line
Gender: Female
Length: not sure.
Song type: Can be sung as a solo, but is technically a compnay number.
Vocal range: It's a straight soprano song, but not opera soprano.
What's it meant for: It's a memory song. the director of a play asks the cast, what would you do if you had to stop dancing tomorrow? This is the song one of the dancers sings.
It's a really good song, but it's an exceptionally tough one to sing. So proceed with caution.

Duets:

Name: The Stepsister's Lament
Artist/Show: Cinderella
Gender: Female on Female
Length: 1:23
Song Type: Duet, medium paced song
Vocal Range: This song doesn't require a very wide range. User friendly.
What it's ment for: Comedy. It's funny as heck if you do it right. Plus, it's short enough that you can use it for a lot of things.

Female Monolgue:

Name: Where Have all the Prince Charmings gone?
Writer/Origin: I got it from a monologue book
Gender: females
Length: about 3mintues usually
Type: about ages 11-33 I think, it's sort of comedic
What's it ment for: comedy

Where have all the Prince Charmings gone?

I often wish I lived in a fairy-tale world...In the Land of Oz like Dorothy or in a far-off kingdom like Cinderella. How delightful it would be to have a prince put a glass slipper on my foot and make me a princess. The only guy who's ever come near my foot is Freddy who stepped on my New Nikes with his size 14 hoofs the first day of my junior year. Cindy and Snow knew "someday their prince would come," but if a girl expects one today, she's going to need some kind of fairy godmother! Believe me, the old gal'll need a wand that's pretty potent...although changing today's guys into anything resembling royalty IS sort of like working with pumpkins! And you know what they say about kissing frogs and having it turn into a prince. Believe me, I've tried this...these lips have touched my share of toads...and after hours of lip locking, I've seen no noticeable signs of nobility!
The only crown a guy wears nowadays is a raiders cap...backwards. These modern day Romeos would NEVER stand under a girl's balcony and say, "Oh, speak again, Bright Angel." They might plunk a Garth Brooks tape in their tape deck and hum along!
When it comes to manners, the average teenage male is so handicapped he should be able to park in the front parkings at the mall! He never even heard of opening a car door; he belches after he finishes a Big Mac, and he stares (or drools) at every girl who walks by in a short skirt.
Why can't guys be more like my dad? Mom said he sent her flowers, wrote her poetry, and brought little surprise gifts for no reason. One guy did buy me a box of candy for Valentine's Day...but all the caramels were missing.
My girlfriends and I are waiting for someone like Richard Gere to swoop us away like he did in "An Officer and a Gentleman." We want the romance...the fairy tale. Are there any Rhett Butlers out there?
I really think the reason guys aren't more romantic is that their heads are too full of other stuff. They are mostly concerned about their bodies- the old biceps. They have been "Brainwashed!" They think the way to a girl's heart is through muscle tone. They will pump iron for two hours and then be too lazy to pick up their own socks. Being a macho stud is more important than being a gentleman?! Not that we girls don't appreciate a guy with a good build...but we'd like a little sensitivity, too!
We realize there are a few drawbacks to being a guy. We know it must be tough sucking up all of his courage to ask a girl out...when she might laugh in his face. Of course, some of that indifference you fellas give off could be just a cover-up. Maybe you're protecting your inner feelings from possible rejection from me and my sharp-tongued fellow females. So, knowing this, we say there's still hope for many of the teenage male population...sure, they're still croaking a little right now, but with a little effort (and perhaps some Right Guard and Scope) some of today's teenage guys could turn into tomorrow's Prince Charmings!

Male Monolgues:

Name: No name.
Origin: Play: The Flow
Gender: male
length: if you just read it, under a minute. If you take your time, then...
type: late high school, like Jr. or Sr. years.
Meant for: Drama

Josh: Do you ever see those old pictures-like in a museum? The Dragon in his cave. And he's got, like, all this gold spread out around him-he's practically sitting in it! And he's got babes hung up on the walls in chains-princesses and s**t. Man, who can spend all that gold, or be solid with all those different ladies? That's how you know a dragon-he just wants more. He just wants more and more and more. He sees something pretty-pretty-it doesn't matter if it's gold, or a car, or a house, or a person-he wants it. And when he wants, he takes. And after he takes, he hoards-he never lets go of anything. That's how you know a Dragon.

Name: Part of Your World
Artist/Show: The Little Mermaid
Gender: Female
Length: 2-3 minutes, maybe...
Song Type: solo, med. speed... yes.
Vocal Range: Alto, but soprano could more than likely handle. But it's not a soprano range...
What's it meant for: Good for children's shows, character, and if you aren't sure if it's a slower or faster song they want...

Name: Be Prepared
Artist/Show: The Lion King
Gender: Male
Length: ... I haven't a clue.
Song Type: solo (the hyenas' parts can probably be cut out... or sung. Whatever). Med. speed.
Vocal Range: Tenor or bass... I'm not sure. Bass, I think... but I can't read music with the bass clef, so I wouldn't know.
What's it meant for: Children's, character.

Title: Girl problems (Sanya Danica Sam you guys can laugh all you want)
Leangth I havent the slightest idea
Sex: Male
Age: 14-15

Hi Jen, what's up? Say, you don't happen to know this girl named Lydia that goes to our school, do you? She's in our World History class. She sits in the back...You know... the girl with the light brown hair and the big beautiful smile. (beat) Yeah, that's the one. What do you think of her? I totally want to go out with her, but I don't even think she notices me. You got any ideas? (beat) Well, I've tried a couple of times to ask her out, but whenever I seem to get close to her, it's like she see's right through me, like I don't even exist. It's like I could stand in between her and the girl she's talking too, and I would even be interrupting them. (beat) What are you talking about, I don't want to ask anybody else. I want to go out with her. I feel like she's everything I want in a girlfriend. (beat) How would I know if we have anything in common, I can't seem to get close enough to find out. (beat) What?...I know I don't NEED a girlfriend, but I want one. (pauses/gets a bad feeling) Hey, wait a minute, what are you trying to do here? Jinx it!...You're supposed to be helping me out, what's got into you!? I've never seen you like this before. (beat) Like what?...You know what! (pauses for a second/ light bulb goes off in his head!) Oh my Gosh!...Jen!...Oh my Gosh! I am so sorry...I get it now. (giggles in disbelief) Jen, oh no...I'm not laughing at you, I guess I never thought of you that way. You just caught me by surprise. (beat) I DO like you! (beat) You ARE beautiful! (beat) I don't know, I guess I never knew, but to be real honest with you Jen, I like our relationship the way it is. Jen!?...Please!...Where are you going?...Why are you so mad!?...Jen, COME BACK! I know we can work this out...(to himself) Okay great! Now I've done it. (reflects) Yep, I think it's time to rethink this.

I really need a female monologue for the NYT (National Youth Theatre).

It needs to be 2 minutes long and from a published play.

Thanks heart

Any paticular parameters for the monolauge Eyestanda cause I can think of well over 20 good female monolauges.

Name: Where is Love
Artist/Show: Oliver Twist
Gender: Male
Length: Three minutes
Song Type: Solo
Vocal Range: Bass/Tenor, really depends on how you treat it
What's it meant for: If you want to get into a musical then this is good because it's a flexible piece you can adjust to your own range if you give it some thought. Or you could be lazy and just sing it in the bass range or learn it by ear. Most people I sang it to loved it and it's very good and impressive when you sing it with force.

Name: Mark Antony's monologue
Writer/Origin: William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar
Gender: Male
Length: Four or five minutes
Type: Dramatic, Thoughtful
What's it ment for: It would be good if you are trying out for a production that is being treated like a traditional piece in theatre. Not theatrical or meta theatrical (oh God no), but just simply traditional.

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I have come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
The evil that men do live after them,
And the good is oft interred with their bones.
So let it be with Caesar, the noble Brutus
Hath told you Caesat was ambitious.
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Caesar answered it.
Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest,
(For Btutus is an honorable man;
So they are all, all honorable men),
Come I to speak in Caesar's funeral.
He was my friend, faithful and just to me.
Yet Brutus say he was ambitious,
And Brutus is an honorable man.
He hath brought amny captives home to Rome,
Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill.
Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
When the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept;
Ambition should e made of sterner stuff.
Yet Brutus say he was ambitious;
And Brutus is an honorable man.
You all did see that on Lupercal,
I thrice presented him a kingly crown,
Which he did thrice refurse. Was this ambition?
Yet Brutus say he was ambitious;
And sure he is an honorable man.
I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause.
What cause withholds you then to mourn for him?
O judgement, thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason! Bear with me,
My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me.
