Just don't suggest that Seth be the Captain, because I would have to blow you away.

This guild is in dire need of HUGE IMPROVEMENT.
1. Move the chat subforum to the main guild forum. This way nobody has to click on an extra button in order to talk or see if anybody's posted in the guild yet.
2. Most of the subforums are unnecessary, and makes the guild harder to browse. All we need for subforums is a mod forum, and an archives forum, and a main forum to talk in. Really.
3. You ban members who don't post recently. The guild is NOT in the right state for this kind of jurisdiction, as it moves at the pace of a 1968 Geddy Lee trying to write inspirational lyrics for a 20-minute epic. We need all the members we can have to post here.
4. The biggest problem here is that you tried to make the guild too broad too early. This is unnecessary. Proper guilds start out small, and grow bigger as their populations grow bigger. They only add on features when it is ripe time for them.
Besides, Rush is an incredibly underrated band. You can't expect this place to bustle like the Magical Poll Guild. It's like building a big four-story mansion for a family of dogs.
5. I haven't observed enough of you to support this, but I don't think you actually focus much on your own guild, either. I understand work and stuff gets in the way of Gaia, but if you're going to captain a guild, you'd better be prepared for a big job. Guilding is like gardening, you have to look after your guild to make sure it runs well.
If you don't have enough time or energy to tend to your guild, you should really hand the torch down to someone you know and trust is cut out to do it. Don't be power hungry.
6. Advertising. Part of the reason why this guild is so empty is because nobody knows it exists. Recruit every Rush fan you see, put a link in your sig, whatever. At the very least make sure it is possible for people to see this guild.
I know it looks like I'm trying to hi-jack the guild here, but think more along the lines of when Neil Peart first came to Rush.
The way I imagined the situation was this: Once he joined the band, he took everything that was wrong with their music (particularly the lyrics) and changed it. Neil may have been a controlling a*****e for his first few years or whatever in Rush, but after a little refinement and putting together ideas, Rush became the one of the most powerful bands in history by 2112.
If it hadn't been for Neil Peart, Rush would have simply gone down the drain like every other Led Zeppelin clone. Even if it did have potential.

If it hadn't been for Neil Peart, Rush would have simply gone down the drain like every other Led Zeppelin clone. Even if it did have potential. First let me say a huge THANK YOU to Alex for his suggestions regarding this fan guild devoted to himself, Neil and Geddy. Now, on to the suggestions in order.
1. I would be happy to put a chat thread in the Main Forum, but what I do not want to see happen there is that we end up with hundreds of threads like other guilds, that go on for endless pages and noone can find what they are looking for. If I put a chat thread there, I want all chat to be done there and no new threads popping up in the Main Forum.
2. & 4. These two issues seem to go hand in hand, so I will address them together. I bought this guild exactly as you see it. No gold was spent on buying additional subforums, so I had to come up with a way to use those that were already here and I don't like having empty subforums just sitting there. Having different places for like related issues has worked very well in all of my guilds and it's been working well here too. That is not the problem.
3. the dragon's name made that suggestion, but I have not and will not put it into action. Any fan is welcome to sign up as a member and post as often or as infrequently as he/she desires. This is a gathering place for Rush fans of any and all caliber and none will be banned. If they choose to quit the guild, that's their business.
5. & 6. You just showed up Alex, so I will forgive you for that observation, but not long ago, I put up a thread in the Main Forum asking if anyone in the guild wanted to take over responsibility for running it. Not one single person stepped up to the plate, so I removed the thread. When I started this guild, it was out of love for you, Neil and Geddy. I thought for sure that there were other fans like myself here on Gaia and I wanted to gather them all together in one place. I did go trolling, I did have a recruitment thread, I did have a banner in my sig, I even recruited from among the members of the only other defunct Rush guild here, and it did prove fruitful. Many, if not most of the current members are from my attempts at recruiting. I just accepted 4 more join requests this morning and I attribute that to yourself, Neil and Geddy showing up and making yourselves known, as well as mentioning myself and the Guild. I do have many other responsibilities both here and in my real life, so putting a lot of time into making this fan guild thrive the way it shoulld or could is lower on my list of priorities. Like any fan guild, it's going to be hot in the beginning because it's new, but over time, without participation by it's members, which has been seriously low, it's going to slow down. I've tried contests, noone joined in. We tried a monthly news report, noone read it. It's not for lack of trying, it's lack of interest by our members. I am hoping with the three of you here, that will change. Perhaps what we can add to the main forum is a thread called, "Ask a Band Member". That might get people visiting again.

It's impossible to make a Rush joke or talk about Rush anywhere else because no one will get it. Rush fans are too few and far between. I mean, nobody in the GD really knows why I make references to "Ayn Rand's worst nightmare", and "escaping to Gliese 581c" (orbits a red star) every time someone mentions 12/21/12, the possible end of the world or beginning of collective thought/enlightenment. I once did an Ask Alex thread in the GD as a joke and managed to answer everything that had a question mark at the end of it. It was only for fun, but maybe I could do this again. =]

I know I just got here and everything but the advertisement part is true. I had no Idea this guild existed at all.
Also, and I know I can't really say this but, the guild needs purpose. Yes I know the main one is Rush and how you like Rush but that can only go so far. There needs to be more purpose to the guild. Otherwise how will you keep people coming back.

Well Argo, you've put forth a point, but you have not given any suggestions as to how that can be implemented. Did you have something in mind that would give the guild purpose and keep people coming back?
