- A few hundred miles south of the main Applewhite stronghold lies a remote resource depot used as a waypoint ofr supplies comeing from Mexico. It is far from state of the art and little more then an old warhouse front that was refitted for the NWO's puurposes. However, there had been a recent uprissing in a nearby Applewhite compound due to the exposure of certain unsavory practices of Applewhite's subordinates (A certain recent kidnappin at the hands of Nagaharu). They have overthrown the light gaurd posts and used capture muitions to take hold of the depot. This is only a minor disturbance as the depot is far from vital, but the higher ups have decided it is necassary to make a point. They have left the retreival of the depot to the Villain teams in order to express Applewhit's domincance in the area.-

NPC. -The uprising is consists of mostly angry disadents who are mostly untraind. However, their numbers, ferver, and access to Applewhite weaponry and resources have encreased the threat level of these othewise docile citizens. Their objective is to hold the depot in hopes of acheiving some form of independance.-

Villain- Any team who accepts this mission is expected to eliminate any resistance with any force deemed necassary. The limiting of collateral damage to the facility is secondary to the passification of the threat to Applewhite supremecy. They will be dropped off by whatever means they wish at a stagin area near Rio Grande and proceed from there-

Conner had arrived at the gathering place. Apparently there was a place where there were peope who wished to be free of the good doctor's grasp. It made Conner laugh. He would be sure to help out or even end the disturbance single-handedly. Surely this wouldn't be too hard.

A chopper made it's way over the gathering place hoving in the air above and displacing the water of the river. The hefty form of Dreadnaught was easy to pick out from the inside of the aircraft. Without even waiting for the vehicle to land, Dreadnauhgt simply took a step out and dissended to the ground, landing wiht a concusive thud. It took him a few moment to stand at full height again, but he took his usual posture, silent and tall.

Conner didn't smile nor frown at this appearance. Though he got along with Dreadnaught he wasn't the kind of person to be a buddy. "What took you so long?" He joked, though with no smile.

His only hint of adressing Conner's question was the wipping of the dirt from his boots.Dreadnaught, naturally, sadi nothing as he took account of the scene, looking all around himself. He would take a moment to allow any new arrivals to show.

Kendra fidgeted with her suit one more time before joining the others at the meeting place. Her suit was all black except for the tastefully-sized Applewhite insignia on her upper chest. Made of Kevlar, Kendra guessed. On her back she wore a small pack with some batteries and small electronics, in case another source of electricity wasn’t readily available.

The problem wasn't that the outfit and pack were uncomfortable. It’s a bit less colorful, but it’s almost like what I used to wear when--No! Kendra shook her head vigorously. That won’t help at all.

She hoped that she didn’t look as nervous as she felt, but she realized she probably did. It wasn’t that she was worried about her ability to help complete the mission; After all, she’d been using her powers on a regular basis since she was twelve. But this was the first time she’d been assigned to work along side of other members of Dr. Applewhite’s organization on an important mission. It was a chance to show off a little, and a chance to prove her usefulness.

She tried to keep her hands at her sides as she studied the others. She hadn’t interacted much with either of them, but if she recalled correctly, the one who had been talking as she approached called himself Lotus. The other one had to be Dreadnaught.

Kendra suppressed a slight shiver. Dreadnaught unnerved her, and it wasn’t just the villain’s towering physical presence. She still remembered seeing the old records kept of known heroes and villains from before the fighting, but she was sure he wasn’t part of them.

How could someone like that keep himself off the records? she wondered.

Gathering up her wits and courage, she finally spoke aloud, giving both men a slight salute, “Sparky, reporting for duty.”

Conner looked to the girl, first a bit shocked, then smirked and calmed a bit. "Fond of the formalities huh? I'm guessing you're a new recruit from Applewhite." Lotus looked her up and down, then sighed. "Alright Sparky, can't wait to see what you got." He gave her a smile. No matter what, Conner trusted Applewhite's decisions.

Dreadnaught returned Sparky's salute with practiced grace that was spitful of his demenor and then returned to the idle stance he had earlier. He scanned the horizon once more, the scene of which showed in the eye vizors of his mask. He became certain that no one else was coming. He gave a slight nod and held his arm out and pointed towards his objective. Not requiring a response from either of them he simply began to walk towards the depot.

Sparky gaped in suprise for a moment as Dreadnaught saluted her, then motioned and walked off without a single word to her or Conner.

Recovering quickly, she started off after Dreadnaught, turning to Conner as she walked, "Fond of the formalities? I guess you could say that, considering the way patrols were always run by my...uh..."

She trailed off, not willing to talk about who her father was, but not sure what else to say. Instead she asked Conner, "You're Lotus, right? How long have you been working for Dr. Applewhite?"

"Heh, how long? I was possibly one of the first. Back when we were small. Now look how strong we are." He had pride in that, and he walked behind Dreadnaught, beside Sparky. "Yeah, I'm Lotus. I'm guessing you heard of me then, since you knew my name." It wouldn't have surprised him, he was a familiar face even before Applewhite's reign as a nutorious villan from America.

Sparky nodded. She remembered hearing some of the older heroes mention him and seeing his name in some of the old mission reports even though she couldn't recall ever meeting him face to face.

It's probably just as well, she thought. She wasn't sure their conversation could be so casual if they had ever actually fought, or even if Lotus did actually remember her as just some second-string sidekick.

Conner spotted the stronghold in the distance and smirked a bit. "There it is. About time, it's been a while since I've seen action." He took his charm off carefully and clutched it in his hand. It glowed, and formed into a silver dagger. Then a whip, then a gun, then a sword, and back to normal. With each weapon he did a few swings or jabs into the air. The gun he just examined. Making sure the charm was in top shape.

Suppressing a groan, Sparky looked around for the resource depot in the direction Conner indicated. She was unsure as to whether the nervous feeling creeping into her stomach was because of how long their trek to the depot seemed, or if she felt that way because she knew it would be over all too soon.

She glanced at Conner as he examined his charm, hoping her observation of him wasn’t too obvious. Why did I even get assigned to this mission with them? Sparky wondered. Both Lotus and Dreadnaught seemed perfectly capable of handling a minor uprising on their own, let alone with help from someone like her.

A little bit of paranoia gnawed at the back of her mind. Maybe she had been sent along with two experienced members of Dr. Applewhite’s organization so the situation could act as a test as well. Two birds with one stone, so to speak; even if she tripped up, her team members would have no problem handling the situation, and either way it showed her abilities. But… would it be a test of my abilities, or of my loyalties? she couldn’t help but ask herself.

As Kendra’s thoughts wandered, her backpack began to feel like a deadweight on her back. Lately she had felt more and more self-conscious that she couldn’t actually generate electricity by her own power. It hadn’t been so bad, back when she fought along side her father; since he could generate electricity at will, she had always had an endless source to draw upon. Now all she could do was wonder if her measly collection of electronics would be enough of a power supply if something went severely wrong.

The growing shape of the resource depot on the horizon snapped her out of her grim thoughts. At their current pace, Sparky realized, they would soon reach the depot. “So,” she asked her team members, “do we have a plan?”
PostPosted: Mon Mar 10, 2008 4:56 pm

Dreadnaughts only response to Sparky's question was the sudden running sprint that he bursted into. The dirt kicked up behind him in grainly columns and fell with a shifting sound as he sped forward. The depot was still a ways off, but that soon became a problem as a sudden whizzing noise came up, quickly ending wiht a sickening goreing sound.

Dreadnaught gave a sudden recoil as a whole opened up in the front and back of his shoulder and something impacted the ground behind him. the apperant situation is that Dreadnaught had just been shot.

Dreadnaught shook it off in nothing flat as he began to run again, met with yet another bullet that grazed his side. Dreadnaught let out an angry gutteral groan as he followed the path of the sniper fire.

The shots surprised Sparky, but she had no time to gape as instinct kicked in. Not willing to risk the chance that she was in range of the shooter as well, she dove to the ground and pulled her backpack off in one seemingly fluid motion. She desperately pawed through the contents of her backpack trying to choose which object to begin with, while still keeping herself as low to the ground as possible.

When her fingers wrapped around her flashlight, she pulled it out and quickly began to remove the batteries. Taking one of them between her hands, she concentrated on pulling out it’s charge. It wasn’t nearly as powerful as an actual power outlet or a bolt of lightning, but properly amplified and discharged it could cause a decent amount of damage. She could already feel the prickle of electricity gathering under her skin.

After repeating the process with the second battery, she quickly shoved everything back into her bag. Once she had it back on, she watched Dreadnaught’s charge and waited for an opportunity to make her own progress forward.
