I still need to buy and wait for some parts so it won't be completed right away. Give me two weeks. :/

Recap of things:
1992 Subaru SVX, LS-L touring trim.
Not offered with a manual trans.
92 Auto trans (4eat) prone to overheating (as a joke we call it the 4Heat)

A ctc solenoid failed causing the rear wheels to bind, destroying the center transfer clutch. Other things failed due to my abuse. Tranny was rebuilt, but the solenoids (transfer valve assembly) were not replaced.
CTC failed again days after the rebuild. $2500 in the drain, but at the time (2004) I didn't know why, as I had no understanding of the trans.
Now I do.
Anyway, I drove around in FWD for the next 3 years without issues until I took it to a shop to get the oil leaks fixed. The day after I got the car back I drove 22 miles before something failed in the transmission causing a drivability concern. it still goes but it makes a clunk with every revolution of the axles. This is when I decided to do this swap. I ordered parts, got most of them, began disassembling and found a protective cover for the TC is missing, probably one of the causes of this new recent problem. Earlier I found a resistor wire designed to soften the trans shifts was not connected, fault of the people fixing my leaks. Who knows what is the real reason.
That was back in September. Aside from that 22 miles, and pulling my car into the garage the other day, I haven't driven my car since August 18 of last year. ):

So it begins. The as of yet biggest project I have undertaken. I'll be replacing the 4heat with a 2002 WRX 5MT. It's about 70lbs lighter and has lower gear ratios, with a 3.9 FD, compared to 3.545 of the 4eat. I'm going to have a driveshaft custom made. Hopefully it will be lighter. Stock is 4 feet of solid steel, weighing only 35lbs. I'm going aluminum.

I'll update you with things as I progress. (:

Ah the SVX, the odd Grand Tourer from Sube. I don't know a whole lot about them, but I can imagine that with the right parts and money, the sky's the limit biggrin

Glad to hear about swapping the auto for the mans, will be much more fun to drive in the end. I just wanna know, will the transmission bolt right up, or will you need a special plate or adapter housing? Also, will changing this trans affect any part of the engine ( I know it sounds stupid, but some ECM's have transmission control module's in then)?

Other than that, keep us informed, and the best of luck to you whee

Good luck with that. :3 The parts you have look beautiful, and the driveshaft should give you nothing but smiles... just be careful and pay attention to detail.

All trannies from 91 up use the same bell housing. It's a direct fit. I just have to either lengthen the driveshaft or make a new one because this trans is about 2 inches shorter. I have a Transmission Control Unit separate from the ECU, and I will have to remove it. I won't have to do anything weird other than install hydraulic masters and slaves because this is not a cable clutch trans.

So I asked my friend yesterday where the hell is my slave hydraulic cylinder, and he says he sent it "Saver", the slowest possible way from Utah to Alaska, so he could save money.
-_-*

Last week he asked me to buy one off Ebay for his car, but I say not until I get mine, and I didn't tell him until yesterday. biggrin

What goes around comes around.

I have not touched my car at all since I took those pics.

I removed the exhaust and driveline today. What a pain in the a**. I'd still be in there goin' at it but I got stuck at the ball joints. I can't get the axles out.
Hopefully by tomorrow the auto will be outta there, then the big trouble will be putting in the new pedals and hydraulics.

I think I'll have this handled by next weekend, unless I'm still missing parts like bolts and things, or if by some miracle I finish it tomorrow.

My parts are here! Back in business.

If you're wondering why it took a month and 3 days, they forgot about me and the parts were just sitting in a corner somewhere. :/
