I just turned 10.
I had DKA and was rushed to childrens after seeing the family doctor and no one told me what was going on. Although I couldn't see and was serverly dehydrated. I guess they forgot to tell me and so I was lying in the ICU and the med students came along and the doctor told them I was a diabetic. ... Nice way to find out, through a med students training. I was just like crap and kinda wondering what I was going to do.
Thank-you Med Students!

March 27th, 2007. That was the day I was diagnosed. I was 16 at the time... it was like a month before my 17th birthday.
I had all the common symptoms. I lost soooo much weight (I wish it could have stayed off too ;D) and was SOOO dehydrated.
@Large I - Oh! Was Dr. Cogen or something like that your diabete's teacher? I was flown from Howard County General To Childrens as well =D

I was diagnosed on January 11, 2005, about 4 months after my birthday. I was so dehydrated, that I kept leaving the classroom to get a drink. Then, I was losing weight, which now I wanted to stay off x]. Then my dad took me to the DRMC. We were there for like 4 hours. Then they said I had to be taken to Childrens. It took 2 hours to get there in an ambulance.
When I did, I had to go to the bathroom really bad xd . Then I was taken to a bed and I layed there to get my IV in my arm. They had taken 3 false ones [Didn't take any blood]. I was getting angry and so was my dad. After they left, my dad told me about diabetes. He said it was gonna be with me for the rest of my life. I started crying and hugging him. Then I was taken to another hospital room. I got meals taken to me, and it was kinda fun. One time, I pulled this string above my bed and asked for a sugar-free popsicle... It was awesome. Then I was told that I had a blood sugar of 850 when I was diagnosed. I was shocked. Well.... We were at the hospital for about a week. When we left, I ate celery sticks in the car x].
That's my story. =]

I was diagnosed 2 years ago (34), im type 2, my mother is type 2, my grandmother and aunty were type 1, my sisters are type 2 as well.
I always since i was a kid used to get easily tired and have dizzy spells but when i was tested i always turned out negative.
I always knew / suspected i had it but it wasnt until i was drinking about 8 litres of water a day that it clicked. I went to the doctors and they said you have diabetes, my reply to him was yes finally. With my familys history it was inevitable.

I was diagnosed when I was only 3 on April 4, 1995 I had no idea what was going on and I would beg my mom and dad to not give me insulin injections. When I was 5 and went to kindergarten, I had no friends because all the other kids thought I was weird for being diabetic. The hardest thing to do is make someone who has never even heard of diabetes understand. When I try and explain to people they just give me a blank stare.
Anyways, I've lost track as to how many times I've been in and out of the hospital or how many low blood sugars almost made me pass out! Still, it's nice to know I'm not alone^^

hey im new here and im type 1 but anyways...
I was 15 and on july 6th i had to be rushed to childrens hospital in pittsburgh. A urine sample i had for a fall sport physical said i had diabetes and they reccomended i come immediatley. I had to stay over night 3 days and they were the longest days ever. I remember feeling pissed off knowing I would have to take shots everyday the rest of my life and not be able to eat foods I wanted to. I remember alot of family and friends eating stuff around me saying oh you cant have this anymore and it got me really depressed so it took me about a few months until i experienced my first high then i realized i had to take care of it because i can still eat whatever i feel like as long as i take a shot for it. I got humalog pens and there pretty sweet to just put in my pocket if im going out or somthing. anyways thanks again and looking forward to meeting other people. Its a big releif knowing other people know what im going through. =) oh and im 17 now by the way lol

Well, I was going in for a sports physical my 6th grade year. The doctor checked my background and thought it would be good if they checked my blood sugar. It turned out to be 238, so they started me on glucophage. I was able to take pills until summer was over. Then I started to take insulin. Its been 6 years now, and I have an insulin pump. I just turned 18 the other day, and life is pretty good. I am really glad to be able to talk to other people who understand what is going on. The town I live in is extremely small, and I am pretty much the only teenage diabetic.
