So, since there really isn't much we can do about the problems with chess in towns, (like interruptions! gonk ) I've started a thread in the site feedback forum. Hopefully they'll notice and do something about it! Discuss the problems with Gaia Chess

That was one of the main reasons we decided to it was best to dress in teams colors and semi-uniforms, so that we could identify who was a piece and just ignore random people mobbing the boards. sweatdrop
Private boards would be fantastic, though.

Seems to me it's the same problems as extraneous chatter bubbles obscuring the board, and can be solved by having the kings double the moves on a real chessboard in front of them to keep track.

Something like a "private" chess room would be great. (where you need a password to get in there, just like in Fishing.) I agree with you. However, there is a problem. And that isint a little problem. Cybering. I don't really think it would be any worse of a problem in private chess boards than it already is in Houses. Same concept.
That is a good point but if it were private and kinda like fishing then couldn't we make it into an actual game and make a multi-player where everyone can play kinda make it more like Rally where you can hangout in the parking lot and instead just have a chess board and have the private room, and a single player where you get to be the King and control all the pieces playing against the computer. I think that would please a lot of people for the chess part. There are so many different possibilities for this and many people (when this first came out) wanted an easier way to place chess because there are those people that don't want to have all the other players and just want to play regular chess.... Then there are people like me that want to have a very interactive game of chess. Without the hassle of having random people come in and whatnot, all the problems you always get in towns.
Cybering would need to be reported when ever seen or done. It is a breech in ToS and is just plain gross. I think there would be the in-house control of cyberers if present in a large game of chess.
I am a crew member of the Gaian Chess Organization and we are planning to play Gaian Chess with another guild and we would LOOOOVE to see our guild (and other guilds) have chess boards so we could possibly invite others to play a game on our board then they could in turn invite us to play on theirs.... I think that this would be an awesome feature to add to Chess based guilds most especially because they will utilize them the most. Even if we had to pay to get the chess board I think everyone would be totally fine with that. As long as we could have a private place to play chess.
Also I do have a question based on these chess boards in Town... how long are they going to stay? We had the pools over the summer, graveyards for Halloween, ice skating in December, and now we have chess boards... these seem to be temporary so how will chess players continue to play chess even well after the seasons have changed or a new holiday has come? We all will still have the pieces and will want to play them. The guild I'm in even has a suggestion for clothes for players who cannot afford to buy the chess pieces so we do not NEED the pieces to place chess.
