This was a cooperation between myself and DJ Birdie. The purpose of this thread is to provide an introduction to truly good underground artists, and also to broaden our tastes in music beyond what we normally listen to.

Posts will comprise recommendations for different artists.

Anyone is free to post on this thread, but there are very specific rules to follow:

1) I don't want anyone posting recommendations unless they listen to the recommendations of other posters. This is a community project here.

2) No mainstream artists. The contribution has to somone the average person you are fairly confident that very few of your fellow members wouldn't have heard of. And if they get radio play, it's an automatic disqualification.

3) The artist you recommend must be (At least in your opinion) EXTREMELY talented, and good enough that even someone who didn't like them would be forced to admit that they were still quite skilled. This is subjective, of course, but stick to music that you find absolutely mind-blowing. I'm trying to avoid "Hey check out my friend's band they're pretty good" posts.

4) There is a specific format to follow when putting your recommendation together:

Start with the name of the artist/band, and the name of the album if you're recommending a specific one.

Underneath, paste a picture of an album cover for reference. These aren't that hard to find, take some time to track one down. I don't want half-assed contributions here. The band has to be good enough to warrant putting some work into the recommendation.

Under that, write a short description of the artist, just some general info including what genre they play and anything interesting that might be worth noting. Again, if it's not worth the effort, don't bother posting, these contributions should be about something you're really passionate about.

Finally, link to a couple tracks so people can listen for themselves. Youtube is a good standby if you don't know where else to go for a track.

Contributions that don't meet these standards WILL BE DELETED. No exceptions, and I don't care how friendly we are. There's other threads to make casual recommendations, this is to show off what you really love.

Any questions can be directed to me or DJ Birdie via PM.

This is not in alphabetic order.

Tech N9ne [Real Name : Aaron Yates]
Latest Album : Misery Loves Kompany (Tech N9ne Collabos)
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Bio : Known for being an extremely fast rapper, Tech N9ne's lyrics are always flat, straightforward, clever, and show a true mastery of words. He rarely speaks of beef and bitches, and has never made a single song bragging about how 'fly' he is. Many rock fans claim that Tech is the only rap artist they will listen to.

Some Tracks
Midwest Choppers (Feat D-Loc, Dahlima, Big Krizz Kaliko)
Welcome To The Midwest (feat ???, Lyrics included)

Kutt Calhoun (Real Name : Melvin Calhoun)
Latest Album : B.L.E.V.E (and one mixtape)
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Side Note : This makes a badass wallpaper!
Bio : Relatively new to the scene, Kutt has only released one album and a few mixtapes, but has a very distinctive and unique skill. He is not as fast as Tech N9ne, but still has a great amount of skill with slow beats.

Some Tracks
Move On (feat Tech N9ne)
N A Whitemanzeyez

Twiztid (Real Names : Jamie Spaniolo and Paul Methric)
Latest Album : Independents Day
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Bio : Completely disproving the "white people can't rap" theory, Twiztid can put forth powerfully moving lyrics, complete with a hard hitting bass in the background. They have been known to experiment with various different styles of music, and the skits provided on their albums are guaranteed to be hilarious. They are a duo band consisting of Jamie Madrox and Monoxide Child.

Some Tracks
Welcome Home
Keep On (Jamie Madrox Solo)
Evil (Monoxide Solo feat Jamie Madrox and ABK)

Esham (Real Name : Rashaam Smith)
Latest Album : Lamb Chopz
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Bio : Esham was one of the main founders of rap and hiphop. He started rapping at 13 (his best period, in my opinion), and laid down the foundation for many music artists, great and laughable. Some say his ability is dimming, but with an astounding 26 albums under his belt, I cannot say I've heard any of his modern work. I'm still stuck on his Mail Dominance album.

Some Tracks
Too many. I can only reccomend you take a look at his Mail Dominance and Detroit Dogshit albums.

Lethal Bizzle (Real Name : Maxwell Ansah)
Latest Album : Back To Bizznizz
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Bio : His style is one of a kind. He is a mix of african and british blood, providing a unique accent. His beats are always jumpy and energetic. One of a kind. No info on his next album.

Some Tracks
Pow! (Official Music Video!) (Note : He is the one saying "I'm Lee from da B.") (2nd Note : UK Rap is weird.)
Uh-oh (Official Music Video, very cool.)

Immortal Technique (Real Name : Felipe Coronel)
Latest Album : Revolutionary Vol. 2
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Bio : Immortal Technique does not even bother touching the topics most rappers think about. He raps about politics, vegetarianism, evolution, and many other topics. Immortal technique is just as lyrical as tech n9ne, as powerful as Kutt Calhoun and Esham, and as truthful as truthful can get.

Some Tracks
Freestyle
Creation and Destruction

Bigg-D (Real Name : Derrik Baker?)
Latest Album : (No information at this time)
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. (For the sake of having an image)
Bio : Not much is to be known on Bigg-D. I'm not even sure the wikipedia article is even talking about him. All we have to run on is his myspace, which at least lets us know he does his own tracks. Either way, this does not stop the fact that Bigg-D is one of the master of remixing tracks.and breathing a new life into them.

Some Tracks
Tech N9ne - Party Like a Rockstar
Various Artist's Mix (16 minutes of pure music)

Hiromi

Albums:
Another Mind, Brain, Spiral, and Time Control.

Hiromi Uehara's first album was Another Mind, which one debuted in 2003 and earned The Recording Industry Association of Japan's Best Jaaz Album of the Year award. So far, I've only listened to Spiral, but it's a good enough album by itself to convince me that all her other albums are worthwhile. They're on my list of albums I still need to buy (Kind of a long list). She is remarkably talented, some of her songs can bring tears to my eyes, and ya know what? She's pretty, too. mrgreen

Her website is hiromimusic.com.

Tracks
Spiral (Title track from the album)
Old Castle, By the River, In the Middle of the Forest (This one really gives you a chance to see how she plays.)

Thievery Corporation

Albums:
Versions, Sounds From The Thievery Hi-Fi, The Mirror Conspiracy, The Richest Man In Babylon, The Cosmic Game.

Most of my friends know them from the track they have on the movie Garden State, but they're so much more than that. They formed in DC (One of the two musicians actually grew up in MD, which I think is cool). The type of music they play is often described as "ambient" but I think their music defines the genre, rather than fits into it.

Tracks:
Lebanese Blonde (From The Mirror Conspiracy)
The Richest Man In Babylon (Title track from the album)
