Heaven's Sorrow
“Yumi! Get back here!”
“Leave me alone Kyo!”
“Yumi…”
Yumi’s long, thick, and wavy black hair was flowing in the wind behind her. The glistening, clear blue tears shining in the moonlight following her every step. In the ground behind her there wasn’t a single smudge to show were she had stepped. Her movements were gentle and graceful in this stormy night.
Behind her ten feet or so was Kyo. His eyes watching her every movement. His dark brown hair bouncing with every stride in his long run. His muscles flexing, he was out of breathe but kept pushing forward.
“Yumi! S-slow down!”
“G-go away Kyo…I hate you!”
Kyo new that was a lie, Yumi new it to. For if it weren’t, then she wouldn’t be crying right now. She understood the fact that his words cut her deeper than any blade she had ever come in contact with.
Kyo had begun to pick up his pace. She was just barely out of his reach now.
“Yumi…please!”
He was breathing even harder than before. Now his right arm extended desperately reaching for her hand. Still knowing how close he was she did not hasten her pace.
When his hand finally took hold of hers he skidded to a stop. He pulled with all his might to bring her into his arms. He then stared into her crystal blue eyes that shined like the tears streaming down her delicate face.
“K-kyo…let me go. Now.”
“Not until you listen to me.”
“…fine.”
Yumi allowed herself to relax in his arms. She then stared right back into his eyes waiting for his response.
“Yumi…look if you didn’t want me in a gang then I don’t have to be. I can quit…but please don’t run from me again.”
“Kyo…I understand…now let me go.”
Kyo released his grasp. He looked into her eyes pleading her not to leave him. But she ignored them. She began to run gracefully as before.
“Yumi…don’t go…please.”
She stopped but she didn’t turn around.
“Why should I…Kyo?”
She had stopped crying. Her gaze turned to the partial moon shining on her through the clouds. The reflection of it’s bright yellow glow turned her eyes into a glittering rainbow of greenish-blue.
“Yumi…I don’t know. I can’t say…maybe its because I lo-”
“No you don’t.”
“Y-yumi?! What are you saying?”
“You don’t love me. You just believe you do. If you truly loved me then you wouldn’t have let me go. You would have held on for dear life. Even if you did let go, you would have still pursued me to make sure that no harm came to me.”
Kyo didn’t move. A wave of devastation crossed his face. He realized that her words were true.
“Why are you saying this Yumi?”
Yumi still didn’t turn around. She remained there staring into the sky at the moon being over run by the clouds of the approaching storm. She listened to the howling wolves chasing after its dinner for the night before the storm hit. She could hear the bloodthirsty howl. She could imagine the viscous eyes of the leader of the pack. She could feel the fear of its prey knowing that it would die this stormy night.
“Kyo…why ask the question when you already know the answer? You need to face the truth before it kills you.”
Once again she had left Kyo silenced.
“K-kill me? Are you insane?! Loving someone won’t kill me! Only rejection will!”
Kyo had fallen to his knees now. The run and the screaming had left him breathless. His face was in a twist of pain and the look of a murder proud of his work.
“Kyo…do what you wa-”
The next scenes came in a flash. When he had looked up he saw Yumi standing in front of him arms out wide as if to protect him from something he hadn’t seen.
There was a loud bang and a crash as lightning shot across the sky. Kyo glaring up at Yumi…covered in blood. His face was dripping with blood. At first he thought that it was his own. But he wasn’t hurt.
“Y-y-y-yumi?”
As the words left his mouth so did then blood that she coughed up. Her feet gave way and she fell back into his arms. The blood pouring out of her chest. He tried to see were it was coming from but failed. A tiny trail of blood left the corner of her mouth as she began to speak.
“K-kyo…”
She had finally managed. The smell of gunpowder filled his nose.
“Y-yumi…your going to be alright…okay?”
The tears came faster than he had hoped.
“K-kyo…its alright I…I can go home now.”
Kyo shook his head. He didn’t like those words.
“No Yumi…you are home…here with me and that is were you will stay. I won’t let God have you. You are mine and mine alone.”
Yumi looked into his eyes and reached up to wipe away his tears. She had already accepted the fact that she was going to die. Her body was losing heat and blood rapidly. She new that she couldn’t make it. With her last breathe she managed to say the last thing on her mind.
“I love you, Kyo.”
At the sound of her last words the last bolt of lightning shot across the sky calling forth the rain. The rain washed away the blood from her face before Kyo grabbed her and pulled her up. He then tilted his head to the sky and screamed out.
“Yumi!”
