Name: Tortuga prime nebula

Description: This nebula is a brownish-reddish-green in color and and spans sector F-6 as well as some of the nearby sectors. A constant magnetic storm occupies this area constantly moving throughout the nebula. This magnetic storm is 1 lightyear in all directions and based on the most recent scans moves 1 lightyear every 4 years. On top of that a large white star with unusually high gravity occupies the lower right of this nebula. All these together make for a very dangerous place for a starship.

Location: This nebula practically touches tortuga prime and spanns 97% of sector F-6, 64% of sector F-7, and 72% of sector E-6 where the ferengi outpost resides.

People: Devoid of life.

Climate: A strong magnetic storm keeps most vessels from entering the nebula however there is only 1 storm (though it`s large), Which makes it possible to enter while the storm is elsewhere. Two unknown particles have been scanned in the nebula, one with draining effects on shields, another with damaging effects to ship hulls. However, both particles are in low amounts throughout the mass. The magnetic properties of the nebula make it perfect for scrambling sensor arrays, and large chunks of rocky matter, presumably from destroyed planets, allow for sneak attacks on enemy ships. The magnetic fields distort cloaking abilities (add +1 onto all cloak detection rolls) and makes it easier for cloaked ships to be found.

Resources: Unknown (seeing as no one has gone very far into the nebula). However it should be noted that Captain David of the USS Behemoth stated that the particles could find militaristic use in greater quantities...

Other system information: The large star in the nebula is difficult to scan without very sensitive equipment (due in no small part to the nebula). This star also puts out approximately two metric tons of those aforementioned shield absorbing particles a day (in earth time), however it absorbs the magnetic particles in it's gravity well...but when an explosive particle enters the magnetic storm it loses it's absorbing abilities and becomes magnetically energized, making for a neat circle of life.

The USS Behemoth dropped out of warp relatively close to the nebula and began moving at 1/2 impulse speed toward it. They stopped out of reach of the nebula but were bombarded by smaller particles eminating from the nebula.
Raise sheilds!
David ordered suprised by the impact of the objects. However the instant the sheilds went up they were draining slightly.
Sir sheilds are being drained by tho...
Explosions could be heard around the ship and were draining sheilds very quickly compared to before.
Back us off! Full impulse!
slowly they backed off and the ship took less and less hits until finally they stopped.
Status report.
Sheilds have taken minor damage and have been reduced to 87%.
Lets keep our distsnce for now...Begin scanning the nebula
At this distance we won't get a very effective scan...
Would you rather go back in?...I want ideas people.
David walked back to his quarters and began thinking of what to do...

The captain returned to the bridge 3 hours later.
Well any ideas?
We were studying the records of when we entered the system, apparently the particles that we encountered only activated when our sheilds went up...the other particles however had no effect on us other than obnoxious sounds. If we go closer without sheilds we won't be effected...as for the latching particles, we have already shed most of them off...
Could we get closer to this nebula without risk of damage if we're without sheilds?
Well yes just close enough to get good scans, however any closer then that and we risk the ship.
Ok take us to a safe range and begin scans...also I want a sample of those particles for starfleet scientists to study. So pull some into the ship for storage.
Acctually sir the particles that are magnetic will only lose their trait within 12 minutes, but the explosive sheild suckers will survive much longer. So i'm saying it would be useless to take the other particles.
Very well just take the other ones then...It's quite possible that these particles can be used for military and possibly mining applications.
Yes sir i'm on it.

About 1 and 1/2 days later.

Sir we've completed the scans...apparently there is a large star in the nebula somewhere, as well as a ferocious magnetic storm raging nearby. We cannot stay any longer without getting dragged into it.
Very well get ready to depart...Oh do we have those samples?
Yes sir they're stocked in the cargo bay.
Alright let's head home...warp 6
Yes sir.

The ship turned around and made it's way to deep space 12 at the limit of it's speed.

USS Behemoth
A flash appeared in the distance, and in seconds a vessel came from it, drifting towards the edge of the nebula until it stopped just out of range. Captain david stared into the colorful abyss ahead, his thoughts dwelling on his last encounter. He remembered it it bit worse than it acctually was, but he still dreaded going into a nebula, where a cloaked ship or even armada might hide, without sheilds. He ordered that the hull be renforced moreso than usual, which was a wise precaution when hunting a dangerous criminal in this God forsaken place.
Bring up the current positional data on the star and magnetic storm, based on the projected path from our last visit.

In moments, the screen switched to a tactical view laying out the previous positional data, then the objects moved, if slightly, to their new positions.

Now send this data to the other vessels, as well as the data we have on the particles and the nebula in general.
Yes sir.

David began staring into the nebula himself, searching for signs of a cloaked vessel.

Ensign Ricky, Redshirt First Class, was on the the bridge and cautiously approached his captain, and spoke, half expecting something to do him in. He'd lost several friends to away missions due to some random effect. Why oh why did the senior officers never get it?

Um Captain...Sir? If I may... Don't we have to...um...scan for cloaked vessels in order to find them, sir? I mean, we like the view and all, but, scanning for a cloaked ship seems the best course of action instead of looking visually for all this time, at least I think so, sir.

If he didn't explode suddenly or spontaneously combust after saying all that, he'd be in good shape.

David turned and grinned obviously laughing inside.
Yeah that would work better wouldn't it. I just got caught up in thinking for a moment about our last visit, and forgot to give out the order.
Alright then, begin scanning for the vessel. Let's see if he's here.

((OOC: Sorry ryugi, I was waiting for the others. If I started scanning, and DID see him, then denning (If he's here) would have likely detected it, and either fled or attacked me directly. Both very undesireable outcomes since I currently have no backup. sweatdrop ))

((OOC: No I didn't forget the die. I just didn't know the cloaking devices strength (D4, 6, or 10.)))

The ship's initial scans would detect...

...nothing.

There were no cloaked vessels within the scan's radius.

Of course, the nebula was very large, and it was possible that Denning was somewhere within its glowing tendrils of gas and electromagnetic radiation. He might also be hiding behind some of the chunks of material floating about the void, but a simple scan wouldn't reveal that...

Or, it was possible that he wasn't in the nebula at all...

There were some engine trails detected, however. Trace ionization from numerous vessels of various origins. The nebula certainly wasn't empty of company, and most of it wasn't the friendly type...

All was relatively quite on the western edge of the nebula. The only thing stirring for light years was the USS Behemoth. Suddenly, and without warning, a bright point of light appeared nearby slowly transforming into a small ship. The SS Eversor dropped out of warp next to the Behemoth. "Good morning Captain! Sorry we're late, slow ship and all. Did we miss anything?" Captain Anderson was much more cheery than before. He nodded to Jericho and sipped his seemingly infinite cup of tea. Jericho, comprehending the gesture, readied the sensors to detect a cloaked Romulan ship.

((Haven't actually scanned yet, but rolled to be ready.))

The captain was both releived and frustrated that nothing was there, and he slumped down in his chair a slight bit.
Just then, a vessel appeared nearby coming out of warp. After hearing the other captain he stood up and sent a reply.
It's good to see a friendly face around here. I was hoping I wouldn't need to face denning alone.
He motioned to his crew to prepare to send the new ship data.
We have some data on the nebula, as well as a scan of this region. If you wish, I can send it to you. Though, simply put, there's nothing here but trace engine trails.

((See Previous Dice Roll))

"Thats good Captain, thanks. We'll begin our scans as well. Hopefully we won't turn much up until the rest of the ships get here." Tom smiled as the channel cut out. The instant it did his visage set in the "down-to-business" face. "Start scanning the area for that ship, and review that data once it's sent."
"Yes, sir!" Tom settled in his command chair waiting for the scan results, drinking his tea.

The two ships floated close by each other, scanning the desolate nebula for any signs of Jacob. The brilliant colors of the nebula swirled in the dangerous suspension of gases and ions.

((Don't forget to add one (+ 1) to all cloak detect rolls))

After sending the scan data, captain David ordered that a message be sent to the other ship explaining that they'd be heading off momentarily, towards the northern nebula area. The large magnetic storm was near the northern area, so it was likely that nothing was there But david rarely left things to chance, so the Behemoth entered warp and prepared for anything. Entering yellow alert, ((OOC: I forgot to sweatdrop )) and rerouting power to the sensors, they would be easily ready for an attack.

The USS kesgrave exited warp on the edge of the system. Passive scans showed that 2 ships from the fleet were already here. Moving at impulse the kesgrave moved towards the closest ships the SS Eversor.
“sorry were late engineering wanted to do a diagnostic on the warp core before we arrived and it took longer than we expected. No luck i take it.”. knowing that it was pointless to scan at this location, as the other ships would have already done that, the kesgrave began to slowly move around the periphery of the nebula

The USS Behemoth dropped out of warp near the northern reaches of the nebula, and began scanning the nebula for denning. David himself would go and watch the scanner himself, in the hope that he'd see anything that his other officer missed.
An hour or so passed, and still there was nothing. David finally began thinking about heading into the nebula's depths.
Alright finish the scans. If we detect nothing, then head back towards the group. I have a feeling that if he's here, he's deeper in.
Nodding and yes sir's came from three of the officers on the bridge. David left the scanner and sat back into his chair. (lol I detected something again xp )
