Glynnis followed the path out of New Bark Town with Charla following close behind. The little fire Pokemon didn't say much as they walked. Eventually, they came up to a little wooden sign, which read 'Route 29 - Cherrygrove.' They were headed in the right direction. If they kept straight, they'd reach the next city. But this route was all surrounded by trees and there was a lot of tall grass and ledges all around. Prof. Elm had said that wild Pokemon hide in tall grass and may come out and attack if she wasn't careful. But Charla was supposed to be there to help her out. And, if she was lucky, she could also catch some of those wild Pokemon.

Glynnis looked down at Charla. She knew the little Pokemon wasn't all that fond of her just yet. But that was okay, since Glynn knew just how to deal with people who didn't like her. How could Pokemon be much different.

"Look," she said seriously, "I know you don't really like me all that much, but we're a team now and we've got to stick together. We're gonna train hard and be better than everyone else, alright? I'm not a quitter and I hate to lose - it makes me feel weak, and I hate that. So, if you promise to help me and stand by my side, then I promise to always stick by you too. And I keep my promises."

Charla looked back at Glynnis with hard eyes. She could see, too, they were the same in many ways. Perhaps she could get along with this trainer? Perhaps this was the one she was waiting for to come around? Charla gave a single, solemn nod in agreement. She would trust Glynnis for now, so long as she held true to her word.

Glynnis seemed satisfied with Charla's answer and took a step forward into the tall grass. She walked through, Charla following close behind. And, just as Prof. Elm had said, a wild Pokemon appeared. The experience was all-new to her, as she had never encountered wild Pokemon like this before. The Pokemon that appeared looked like a tiny bird. Remembering the professor's words, she pulled out her Pokedex from her bag and pointed it at the Pokemon. A computer-like voice spoke to her, 'Pidgey, the tiny bird Pokemon. Commonly found in grassy areas and forests, it is very docile and will chase off enemies by flapping up sand.'

Glynnis tucked her Pokedex away again and turned to confront the Pidgey. "Alright, Charla...let's battle it. Prof. Elm said that's how we can get stronger." Charla stepped up in front of Glynnis and readied herself for a battle. Like the Pokedex had said, Pidgey started flapping its wings, tossing sand in their direction and making it hard to see. But Charla didn't back down. She charged, scratching her opponent and weakening it. THe battle got serious now, and the wild Pidgey attacked, knocking Charla back. But Charla regained herself quickly, and finished her opponent with another strong scratch attack. The wounded Pidgey fled, and Charla was the victor.

Glynnis beamed with excitement. She gave Charla an approving look and a thumbs up. "And that's how it's done!" With a victory under their belt, the two continued on through the grass, ready for anything that might come their way.

The pair kept walking; it was tough finding there way through the trees, grass, and ledges. Sometimes they came to a road block and had to move around it the long way. They passed a building halfway through but decided it would be best to keep on the path they were supposed to follow, lest they get lost. At one point, Charla spotted an item and pointed it out to Glynnis. Glynnis picked it up. It was a potion. Somebody had probably dropped it. 'Finders keepers,' she figured, and put it in her bag with the other potions she had received earlier.

They came to another patch of grass and ran into some more wild Pokemon. This time it was a little purple mouse. Her Pokedex informed her that it was a Rattata. Charla took it down like she had the Pidgey earlier. The Rattata was a tougher opponent, though, but she still made it out okay. She even seemed a lot stronger now than she had been before, Glynnis noted. But they continued walking. They were almost near Cherrygrove now. After they got through that patch of grass, Glynnis found an odd-looking tree that she had never seen before. It had a green apricorn growing on it. Deciding it might be useful, she picked it up and placed it in her bag.

There was one more patch of tall grass to get through before they could get back on the path again. This time they ran into another new Pokemon that Glynnis' Pokedex called a Sentret. It was a cute little thing, but battling it would help make Charla stronger. It was a lot weaker than the Rattata or even the Pidgey, so Charla defeated it no problem. Once they had battled their way through the grass, they emerged onto the path again. It was a paved path that led right into Cherrygrove City.

Micah started his journey with a step into the grass of Route 29. Not but a few seconds after did he hear a shy rustling from the grass around him, as well. Picking out his pokeball, he summoned his Remoraid onto the field. Remoraid just sort of flopped there awkwardly, using it's fins to propel itself just a bit every now and then. "I know it's hard on you, Tako." Micah spoke to his Pokemon as the wild Sentret then poked his face from the grass, beckoning an 'aw' from Micah at how the small Pokemon lifted itself with it's tail. "Tako, spray it with Water Gun." he whispered to it with a laugh. Though, Tako's Water Gun was far more forceful than Micah had wanted it to be and it knocked out the raccoon Pokemon with ease. "Dah. Tako. I just wanted to pull a prank. Though, I guess I do need to start battling you more. I guess we could train with wild Pokemon, too, as we venture, ya' know?" he said as he left the grass and was now on a dirt path. He kept going straight down the path figuring it to lead him somewhere, though the only thing he found at the end of the path was a dead end with some trees and a ledge that he was unable to hop over. Groaning a bit he re-tracked his steps and went past just a bit of flowers, though spotting a tree with some sort of . . . fruit . . . in it. So going through the grass again, he went and plucked the Green Apricorn from the tree, attempting to bite into it, but instantly spitting as the Apricorn was not to his liking and was rather hard, actually. Then trekking through the grass once more, he heard several rustles from around him. It was a group of just a few Pidgey led by a Rattata. "C'mon Tako. This is our chance." Micah spoke as he sent out his Remoraid, and it commenced to douse the four small Pokemon set before him with a great deal of water. The Pidgey in anger began to pummel the poor fish with attacks, but blowing them away with Water Gun one by one, Tako came out on top. Summoning his Remoraid back into it's Pokeball, Micah came upon a paved path leading to the next city on his list of destinations, Cherrygrove City. So he made his way into the city hoping to have some fun here. He'd always wished to travel, and now that his dream was coming true, he wanted to have at least a little fun with his journey.

”Okay, lesse what this Pokemon thing is all about.” Blair muttered to herself, in hopes that it would somehow make it better. She cradled the Pokeball in her hand, waiting for the right moment to take it out would be. She thought about the name Meowth. Of course, it’ll need a better name later… Hmmm why don’t I just name it now? Blair set herself up for the moment of truth, and pressed the button on the Pokeball. A Meowth came out of the Pokeball with its big eyes and meowed. Blair squealed. ”AWWWWW.” She said and picked it up. Now to name it… She tapped her chin for a little and decided to name it Vanilla—Nilly for short. She smiled as she said the name over to the Meowth, It nodded, as if it liked its name. ”OH! I have something Jack gave me before I left Hearthome. It would be a purrfect collar for you.” Blair giggled a bit at first at her joke and gently put Nilly down and rifled through her bag for a little while, and she was about to give up when she heard a jingle in the bottom of her bag. Soon she had gotten out her Shell Bell, and she shook it a bit in front of Nilly’s face for a second then attached it to her Pokemon. Apparently these were supposed to heal Pokemon a little bit after every battle. That would be very helpful in the journey to come. Also, it did look very cute.

”Okay! So battle time! I want to see what you can do, Nilly!” Blair said somewhat sadisticly. She searched the bushes for some weak Pokemon that she knew her Meowth could take care of. While looking, she stumbled upon a strange looking tree in the middle of a clearing. It had a green berry on it. Blair decided it would be good if she picked it, because it might come in handy later. She sniffed it and it smelled like a really unripe strawberry. It would probably taste like it too. She shuddered and continued looking for that Pokemon. She soon found one, a Rattata with some bread in it’s mouth. Who would feed a wild Pokemon when you could have that bread to yourself? She jumped back at first; little fast-moving things really didn’t suit her well. But then she felt Nilly around her ankles and she stepped back for her Meowth to take care of things. ”Okay, so you know Scratch, right? Yeah, use Scratch a bunch of times.” Blair nodded to confirm her own command and watched as Nilly took excellent control of the battle. It dodged all of the moves that the Rattata was dealing, and swiped out it’s claws to hurt the Rattata. Its tail shook violently as it waited for the mouse Pokemon to attack back. Oh! That reminds me. I need to scan these Pokemon. Haha, quick thinking Blair, quick thinking. She rummaged through her bag in search of her Pokedex. She found it, and quickly scanned both her beautiful Meowth and the purple mouse thing that was just scratched again. By now, Nilly was getting pretty tired and couldn’t dodge the moves of her foe very easily, and was hit a couple of times. Not nearly enough for her to keep fighting, so it fought on. Soon the battle was over, since that Rattata wasn’t exactly hard to beat. Meowth slowly walked to its trainer and sat there, waiting for something to happen. It was a little tired, so Blair was going to use a Potion on it because she felt sorry for her Pokemon. Just as she was about to reach into her bag the bell on Nilly’s collar started glowing, and soon all of the Meowth’s scratches and tiredness went away. ”Whoa~ That Shell Bell thing must’ve healed you!” She bent down and scratched her Pokemon and smiled. ”I’ll have to thank Jack later for an excellent going-away present.” She smiled to herself and began walking again to the building that served as a passageway between what she hoped to be Route 29 and Cherrygrove City. It was getting to be around an early dinnertime, and Blair was kind of hungry. She let her Meowth explore a bit but it never ventured more than a couple of feet away from Blair. It meowed and came back to her with something in its mouth. It was a Potion, like that shy aide had in the New Bark Pokemon lab. She thanked her Meowth for the find and chucked it in her bag. She's probably need a new organization system soon. The two were becoming fast friends. Blair followed as Nilly ‘led’ her to the exit of Route 29, and walked into the building.

Natalie “Nat” Benoit

User Image
Natalie emerged onto Route 29, the bounce in her step not necessarily intentional, but irreversible. Reaching to her belt, she withdrew Sophie's pokeball, looking at it for a moment as if deciding if she should release her overly happy pokemon for the time being. However, it was a rather quick internal discussion, the pokeball released from her hand with a bright smile.

"Come on out, Sophie!" In a flash of red light, the Phanpy emerged into the sunlight, looking around at the grass and sky. She seemed almost as excited to be on this journey as her trainer was, which might be what made them such a good match for one another. Either way, she couldn't be happier with her choice in a first pokemon. After all, they were going to be together for a long time. Turning to Hoshi, Natalie gave a small smile, running her fingers through her bangs as she kept a watchful eye on Sophie, wanting to make sure that the pokemon didn't get too far ahead. She had always been warned about the tall grass, though now that she had a pokemon, traveling was significantly safer. Not too much safer, however, as moments later, a pair of Pidgey burst from the grass, flying directly towards Sophie.

"Ah! Sophie! Defense Curl," she called out quickly, the pokemon rolling into a ball as the two tackle attacks hit. Natalie's quick thinking saved her new friend from some significant damage, though it seemed that Sophie was just as peeved at the sudden attack as her trainer was. When Natalie called for a Tackle attack, the pokemon was only too happy to oblige, running forwards and jumping into the air to connect with one of the Pidgey as he turned to make another pass. Narrowly escaping another tackle attack from the Pidgey, as soon as Phanpy's feet touched the ground once more, she launched herself towards the same pidgey, knocking it out of the air and out of the battle with another tackle attack. Now, all that was left was that other flying pokemon.

Sophie's attack was lowered as the Pidgey used a growl attack, though that was not enough to stop the Phanpy from landing another tackle attack right where it counted. One last tackle attack, and Natalie had officially won her first pokemon battle against two wild pokemon. HEr celebration was short-lived, however, as a Rattata wondered out of the tall grass as well, Phanpy unable to contain the adrenaline that was apparently coursing through her system from the last battle. Natalie didn't even have to give an order before the long nose pokemon rushed forwards in a powerful tackle attack, knocking the small purple pokemon back into the grass with what seemed minimal effort.

"Sophie, that was great!," Natalie exclaimed as her pokemon ran over to her, launching herself into Natalie's arms for the praise she deserved. The future pokemon ranger cuddled her friend delicately, smiling brightly towards Hoshi once more.

"Man, this place is teeming with pokemon! Mom was right when she said there was lots to do in the Johto region," she said with a soft laugh as she jogged to fall into step with her travel companion once more.

Hoshi Maban

A laugh emitted from Hoshi as she watched Nat and her phanpy. In a matter of seconds upon stepping onto route 29, the two had gotten into a fight with two pidgeys and then a rattata. Coral was laughing along with her trainer. The both did not notice their danger until it was almost too late.

A pidgey of their own had flown at them from a nearby tree. At the last second Hoshi leaned back to avoid the tackle of the bird pokemon. In the next instant, the trainer tossed her Aipom into the air. "Use scratch," Hoshi called out to Coral. The Aipom slanted her body down, claws stretched out in front of her. She landed on the pidgey's back and ranked her claws along it. Coral dropped to the ground in triumph.

"Don't get cocky, there could still be another one," Hoshi called out to her Overly joyous Aipom. The warning came too late. A pidgey had zipped out of a bush and tackled Coral. The Aipom was knocked over but quickly got back to her feet. Hoshi face palmed herself. "First, use sand attack to blind the pdigey. Then finish it with scratch." Coral used her tail to kick up some dirt and throw it at the approaching pidgey. It hit, the pidgey's flight path wavered and it flew right pass Coral. As the enemy flew pass, Coral launched a scratch attack. The pidgey crashed into the bushes, defeated.

Hoshi looked at Natalie as the pair approached. "It is. You and Sophie are great together. Which reminds me. Are you going to go after the Johto gym badges," Hoshi inquired. Coral climbed up her trainer's body and took her usual place on Hoshi's shoulder. The Aipom chittered something in her trainer's ear. "Yes you did wonderfully too."

Natalie watched as Hoshi dispatched of her own wild pokemon, the girl marveling at the teamwork between pokemon and trainer. Phanpy was still held secure in her arms, the distance between the two girls closed as they came together. She smiled as the girl complimented her and Phanpy a soft smile coming to her lips. When she asked if Natalie was going after the Johto League, she seemed to think for a moment, looking down at Sophie in her arms.

"Well, to be honest, I hadn't really thought about it, but it makes sense. Mom always said that the best way to learn about pokemon is to battle with them. Sure, why not," she said finally, giving a nod down at her partner in her arms. Sophie gave an excited flap of her ears, starting to wiggle around so much that Natalie was forced to put her on the ground once more, though she knew it just came from excitement at the thought of entering the Johto League and challenging the Elite Four.

"What about you? I'm sure you wouldn't have any problems beating the gym leaders," she said with a grin, the pair continuing through the route. As wild pokemon appeared, Sophie was quick to dispose of them, putting another two Pidgey, a rattata and a Sentret under her belt. She even happened upon a potion laying in the grass as they made their way towards Cherrygrove city, tucking it into her bag as she walked. Phanpy continued to run around her feet as they walked, Natalie almost tripping a few times when the long nose pokemon made a quick dash between her legs mid step.

Hoshi Maban

Hoshi smiled at Nat's comments. There were a lot of gyms Hoshi and Coral would have trouble at. "I'm planning on trying to take them but I'm sure I'll face some problems," Hoshi said in response. She looked at her Aipom, who chittered encouragement.

She watched as Natalie took on some more pidgeys, another rattata and a sentret. Something sparked in her. Hoshi wanted a Sentret. That's what she began focusing on. She looked around her for one. Soon she was rewarded. A sentret was asleep in the bushes. "Coral. Be as quiet as you can and use scratch." The aipom jumped from her trainer's shoulder and ran to the sleeping pokemon, chittering along the way. Hoshi face palmed herself. She should've known Coral didn't know the meaning of quiet. As soon as the attack landed, the sentret awoke. In that split second, Hoshi threw a pokeball. The wild pokemon was drawn into the ball with a red light. The ball shook a few times before settling.

Coral let out a happy screech and brought back the ball to her trainer. "Thanks," she said to her aipom as she took the ball from Coral. She released the sentret from the ball. As the sentret came out, it was asleep. "This one sleeps quite a bit. How about naming her Dream?" She look at Coral for her opinion. The Aipom nodded her acceptance. Hoshi returned their new team member.

They continued through route 29. Coral took on several rattata and a sentret. The Aipom was happy to battle and have fun. Along the way, Hoshi found a new discarded potion. She picked it up and put it in her bag. It was then that Hoshi noticed a strange tree. She approached and picked a green apricorn growing from it. "Wonder what this is," she said, putting it in her bag. She looked to Natalie to see if she knew.

Natalie and Hoshi continued on through Route 29, these sounds of civilization becoming steadily louder as they made their way through the long grass. While Hoshi captured a Sentret (talk about one cutie pokemon!), Natalie was busy dispatching of a group of 3 Pidgey, Sophie only too happy to disturb them from their daily routines. It was simultaneously cute and alarming how much enjoyment her new pokemon was getting from battling, but now that she decided to take on the Johto League, she was glad to see that her first partner was strong and reliable. After all, in dispatching of those Pidgey, only one tackle attack managed to hit. Not too shabby.

Turning, she saw Hoshi returning the new member of her team to its pokeball, Natalie quickly jogging to fall into stride with her new friends once more. Before they went too much further, the pair stumbled upon a potion laying on the ground and a green apricorn tree, Hoshi the first to pick one of the green balls from the branches. She looked over at Natalie as if asking what it was, the redhead rushing forwards and snatching one for herself as well.

"These are apricorns. My dad told me that some people can actually turn them into pokeballs if they have the right training. It sounds like it's pretty complicated, but it can't hurt to take one with us," she said with a laugh, tucking her new treasure into a special pocket in her bag that would from now on be dedicated only to apricorns. Just think of all the great balls she could get if she found someone that could craft them! Adding this to her mental list of things to keep an eye out for, she spurred their small group on, the sight of a town causing Phanpy to suddenly rush forwards with an excited cry.

"Woah, Sophie, you have to wait for us," she called out, taking off in a run after her pokemon and into Cherrygrove City.

Tezley and his companion, Cyndaquil, had rushed out of New Bark Town with vigour. Although, the thought of leaving Elizabeth behind made him feel a little uneasy inside, and her confused look as he turned to her one last time played over and over. His pace slowed as he was about to reach the tall grass that lay ahead, and looked back towards the town. He was barely through Route 29, which was a fairly short route connecting New Bark to Cherrygrove, something he remembered from when his father told him. He looked down as his pokémon, who seemed to want to dash through the tall grass and take on whatever they encountered. Tezley had that same feeling, he could not shake it, nor would he ever want to. However, he felt that waiting for Elizabeth was the right thing to do, the least he could do for running off like he did.

“Man, I feel pretty dumb right now, Cyndaquil.” He said sitting down beside the fiery rodent pokémon, laughing at his own words and at how true they were. “I don’t know why, but for the first time in a long while I felt shy talking to someone.” He confessed, confusion etched into his brow. “Well not shy, exactly, but... I didn’t say what I wanted to say.” He added, as Cyndaquil hopped onto his lap. He patted his pokémon’s head, before getting up from the short grass beneath him, leaning himself next to a tree. “Well, I won’t make that mistake again, that’s for sure. Besides, might be more fun with Elizabeth and Grant around, huh little fella?” Tezley grinned, looking down at Cyndaquil. “Quil, Quil!” his partner nodded. And so, they waited expectantly, hoping to catch a glimpse of Elizabeth.

Lizzy made her way down Route 29, trying to avoid shuffling through the grass as much as possible. She didn't know if it was like it here, but if you went too far out of Sunyshore City, back home, and ran through the grass, wild Pokemon would be waiting for you. She had a problem with wild Electabuzz hiding in the grass with her home town. Though other Pokemon could be spotted there as well such as Floatzel and Wingull. After traveling down this route for a short while, she saw a figure in the distance, though it wasn't too far off. And upon getting into view's range, she could finally distinguish that it was someone she'd already met. Just recently met, actually -- Tezuma! Still rather hurt by the fact that she'd tried to make it evident that she wanted to travel with him, she began to attempt at ignoring him as she walked closer, trying hard to fixate her gaze on the path in front of her. This was for a few reasons . . . One: that she was sort of embarrassed. Two: That she was sort of angry and wanted him to feel bad, sort of . . . though she had to admit that wasn't very cool, and tried to focus her attention on merely avoiding awkwardness. And three: . . . well, there is no three. Grant still in her arms, she held him closer as he chimed "Snubbull, snubbull." She'd soon be reaching the point where she'd be passing him, and she hoped that she could scurry on by without him making fun of her or something. Lizzy, because of her past, had a bad habit at making the littlest of inconvenient situations out to be something far greater than what they actually were.
