If you start analyzing FLCL like its just Naotas imagination then everything fits and you understand why he such a ladies man and why everyone stays so cailm(mostly) through the whole anime.
In the begining Naota says "Nothing amazing happens here, Everything ordinary." Could this be a clue that the events that happen are just in Naotas head?

Well the human mind can make a person see what they want to believe. He could have been so bored or tired with his life that he thought of something interesting.
I don't like to see it that way but it could be true.
