Any advice for a first-time cosplayer? I'll be cosplaying for the first time at No Brand Con (Who else is going?!) as Vivi from FFIX. I was hoping to use felt for my entire costume, and I've never made one before. Is there anything I should know first before I start designing and buying material? What do you do for improvisation? What was your first cosplay? Post pictures! ^^

Well, felt is going to make for a very warm costume. After a while, even if you have lots of open patches, the part of your skin that is under the felt is going to get very warm and wet and possibly soak through after a time. Not only that, but felt has a tendency to stretch out a little (the belt on my Maha costume keeps getting longer, for instance) over time. I don't know what the character looks like, so I can't really give advice on what to use. Perhaps if you could post a pic...?

well last haloween i went as a zombie thing from 28 weeks later...it worked quite well....as i scared the hell outta a lot of little kids...not even intentionally necesarily...for those who have seen this movie youll agree it looks decent atleast and i used real meat products and ketchup to simulate the mouth spraying of the blood and flesh....yes it was a beautiful site to behold...lmao...

The dribbled, streaming blood looks fairly realistic, or at least natural. It would be especially impressive on a dark night, when the less detail you actually see, and the more is hinted at. The Captain Planet one is going to take a lot of blue body paint and green hair dye, but I think make up wise, it's easier than the zombie. After all, CP doesn't have to look too natural; the more plastic you make yourself to look, the better.
Just as a side thought, I wonder how many Captain Planet toys wound up landfills?

I will be hopefully doing my first cosplay this Summer at the Mecha Con. Again hopefully I will be cosplaying as Mike Jones (From StarTropics a Nintendo game made for the NES this is a forgotten clasic and many game reviewers recomend it like PBC Productions Little Miss Gamer)
http://www.nesarchive.net/v3/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/startropics-7.png
Here is a pic of the character fighting an octupus.
I was planning on blue short sleeve shirt, black long sleeve shirt under it (even in the Louisianna heat I only wear long sleeves and pants), black pants, make some shoes blue some how, and I'll carry a red yo-yo. Also I will probably bring a back pack with some of the weapons from the game like a baseball and a bat.
You think it will work?

Use natural fabrics like cotton if you can. Synthetics don't breathe or absorb sweat, which means you'll be very hot and uncomfortable all day.
Use baby powder to absorb sweat to avoid stains. It won't hurt the fabric either.
And be sure to bring a pocket sewing kit in case you snag or rip something.
