I noticed while reading Sanctuary (a book of the elven exiles trilogy) that the elves seem to eat meat (or atlest some of them, i thought they were vegetarians) quotes: page 207 "they's been riding past a thin line of aloes and stunted pines when the creature suddenly bolted from behind them. hungry for fresh meat, the elves had given chase."
page 194: "Planchet set a covered dish before his master. gilthas dining alone, watched expectantly as the domed cover was whisked away. chicken again, nestled on a bed of roasted vegetables."
there is also one quote that talks on the elves eating fish that i can't seem to locate at this time sweatdrop
this is the first time in all the dragonlance books i've read that elves eating or wanting to eat meat was mentioned. what do you think?

I belive elves live off the land, they are hunters and gatheres, I can remember several books where they talk about hunting deer and such.

I seem to remember as well that the Elves "lived off the land". But even if they didn't before, they may have been forced to just for nourishment

They probably do not enjoy eating meat when compared to plants, just as some humans like meat better than vegetables.
I think that some elves in Elven Exiles 2 or 3 ask if they are allowed to hunt deer, because their supplies are low, IIRC. But they are more eager to just forage for berries and roots.
So the reason for the fact that we have rarely heard about it before is that in times of abundance in Qualinesti and Silvanesti, the elves didn't have to eat meat to survive.
