Divinations
Divination is the study of the unknown.
It can be done in several different ways, and is usually misunderstood by inexperience.

There are over 160 forms of divination, including little known forms like: Ornithomancy (divination by bird song and flight pattern), Batroquomancy (divination by frogs), Tiromacy (divination by cheese), and Gastromancy (divination by sounds of the belly), and of course greater known forms like Cheiromancy (palm reading), Oneiromancy (dream interpretation), Scrying (looking into reflective surfaces like water, mirrors, or crystal balls), and Tasseography (tea leaf reading).
The word 'Divination' comes from the Latin 'divinare', meaning "predict", "prophecy", or "divine the future".

Tasseography - The Art of Reading Tea Leaves

Instructions
1. Without straining the tea leaves, brew and pour a cup of tea for yourself and a partner.
2. Carefully sip the tea, leaving the leaves and a little bit of liquid at the bottom of the tea cup.
3. If you are right handed, use your left hand for the following step (and vise-versa): Swirl the liquid and tea leaves clockwise three times.
4. Carefully turn the cup upside-down and place it on your saucer.
5. Trade cups with your partner. You will read his/her cup while he/she reads yours.

Reading Basics
· The handle of the cup resembles your partner. Figures closer to the handle will affect your partner more directly than figures on the opposite side of the cup.
· The rim of the cup represents time. The very edge represents the present while the bottom of the cup represents the future (the farther down in the cup, the farther in the future).
· In general, unclear shapes may warn you of obstacles in the way of your goal.
· Straight lines indicate definite plans, while rippled lines indicate uncertainty.
· Numbers in the top half of the cup represent hours or days, while numbers in the lower part of the cup represent longer periods of time, like months or years.
· Any letters are the initials of people important to the person of whom you are reading.

Basic Forms

Apple - knowledge, achievement
Axe - difficulties
Balloon – troubles are ending
Bird – news (good or bad)
Butterfly - transition, transformation
Circle – frustration *
Cloud – doubt *
Clover – good luck
Club – an attack *
Cross – bad luck, trials, suffering
Egg - good omen, creation, new beginnings
Flag – a warning
Forked line - decision
Heart – pleasure, love, trust, compassion
Horseshoe – good luck
Key – opportunity or discovery of a secret
Leaf - new life
Snake – enemy
Square – protection
Star – success
Triangle – good luck
Wings - messages, winged beings

These figures are likely to appear, as the futures they represent are common.
* = these figures are likely to appear if you do not believe in the reading you are conducting, or the art of reading tea leaves.

Advanced Forms
Acorn – unexpected gold
Bell – good news
Book – wisdom
Boat – travels
Candle - help from others
Cat - deceit, a false friend
Castle – money
Chair – a guest
Cup - reward, bloodlines
Dagger - warning, danger from self or others, power
Dog - a friend +
Duck - money coming
Elephant – advice
Envelope - message coming, positive or negative
Eye - open (awakening); closed (something not seen)
Falcon – deadly enemy

Palm tree - success, honor, place were they grow
Raven - bad news, death that leads to new beginnings
Scissors - quarrels, possibly separation
Sheep - good fortune
Skull – danger
Sun – great happiness
Tree – a goal will successfully be achieved
Wheel – good fortune if complete
Wolf - jealousy

These figures are less likely to appear in a novice’s cup, or they may appear but you may not be able to recognize them.
+ = This matter is very questionable. We all know that in HP POA, Trelawney goes nuts when she finds a dog in Harry's cup. Let's just say if you find a dog in your cup, you'll have friends before death?

Tarot Card Reading ... I

The Cards provide tips about your life or current situation, not direct answers. There are 78 total cards in a Tarot deck: 21 Major Arcana and 14 of each suit (cups, swords, pentacles, and wands).

Conducting A Reading
1. Shuffle the deck, face down, for 15 seconds. If you wish, you may concentrate on a specific question or concern. But try to open your mind and think of nothing else but shuffling the cards.

2. Using your left hand, separate the deck into four smaller piles, moving from left to right like shown below. It doesn’t matter if the piles are equal.
[pile 1] [pile 2] [pile 3] [pile 4]

3. Place the appropriate card in the correct position, regarding the chart below. Do not flip them over if they are reversed when you place them.
[A. top card from pile 1]

[B. top card from pile 2] [C. top card from pile 3] [D. top card from pile 4]

4.
The card in spot A is addressing a time in your life, your overall situation, or a problem you have encountered. The card in spot B refers to events, problems, or relationships in the past or present that are influencing card A and the situation it suggests. The card in spot C offers food for thought, thins to ponder when it comes to card A. The card in spot D suggests answers or courses of action.
5. Cards will fall either upright or reversed. A reversed card may mean you are not as in control as an external force is, or it may suggest that the meaning is not as strong, or even stronger. A majority of upright cards means you are in control; a majority of reversed cards warns against laziness and depending too much on others.
6. Pay attention to which suits there is a majority of in your reading. If you have several Major Arcana suggest you should take matters seriously. Several cards in the suit of Cups tell you not to let your emotions cloud reason. Many Swords forewarn indecision on your part. Lots of Wands say to act when you are full of life and energy. Lastly, Pentacles tell you to aim for profit.

Tarot Card Reading ... II

The Cards provide tips about your life or current situation, not direct answers. There are 78 total cards in a Tarot deck: 21 Major Arcana and 14 of each suit (cups aka "chalices", swords aka "spades", pentacles, and wands).

Major Arcana: The 21 Major Arcana (Arcana meaning “Mysteries”) pertain to major lessons to be learned in life. They symbolize the physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual aspects of human life.
0 The Fool – Take things as they are. Matters are proceeding as planned. Do your part to settle outstanding disagreements. Kill others with kindness and let them suffer the consequences of their actions. This is a good time to remodel your home or build investments. When reversed: Schedules are full, time is at a premium. Take time to enjoy life’s pleasures. Postpone business decisions temporarily. Use discretion and patience.
I The Magician – Do you feel adrenaline rushing through your veins? Now is the time to stretch yourself and test your limits. Be adventurous, competitive and daring – within limits. Success and recognition will follow. It’s an excellent time to begin new projects. When reversed: Pay attention to rules and think twice before acting. Don’t close yourself off from the advice and guidance of others. Beware of arrogance. Make friends, not enemies.
II The High Priestess – Trust your intuition more than your reason; act more on feelings than on fact. Take your time to think about your options. Tackle difficulties with enthusiasm – these are opportunities to learn. To be a winner now, don’t withdraw. When reversed: You’re expecting things to come too easily. Be careful not to give up right away when they don’t. You’re feeling a desire to escape, to withdraw into yourself. Shrug off your current lack of focus and work diligently to achieve your goals.
III The Empress – Express your ideas and take calculated risks. Getting what you want is your responsibility. Your passions are of primary importance now. News of a wedding, pregnancy, or children arrives. When reversed: Are you feeling inferior about your intellect, education, or communication skills? Stop it! Don’t exaggerate your fears or be reluctant to take action. Problems with your mother or other intimate women are imminent.
IV The Emperor – Play by the rules and don’t take shortcuts. Use common sense when managing your resources. Now is the time to get organized and make plans. Careful use of logic and reason will deliver success. When reversed: Despite your obvious talents, success will come slowly at this time. Respect the past and learn from it. Frustrations, obstacles, delays, or setbacks will test your perseverance. Don’t react hastily; make sure all your decisions are unemotional. Balance work with play.
V The Hierophant – Follow the path that is familiar. Now is a good time to show how conventional you can be. Your public image and status with your friends or in the community are of great concern to you now. Don’t sacrifice your beliefs or freedom for status. Keep alert to the outside world. When reversed: Make things happen by taking care of the details. Don’t become rigidly attached to order and routine – the ritual shouldn’t mean more to you than the result. Personal growth comes through modesty and compassion.
V The Lovers – Lovers and close friends take center stage. Take the time to tell those close to you what they mean to you. Examine all of your relationships that are going nowhere – eliminate the unwanted and unnecessary. When reversed: Exaggeration abounds, emotions run high – especially jealousy. Beware of self-indulgence and greed. Slow down. Don’t let anyone rush or push you into things.
VII The Chariot – Victories are on your horizon. Reject negative people but don’t judge them too harshly. Appeal to other’s sense of fair play. This is a very good time for travel, getting away, or taking a break. When reversed: People are more defensive now. Don’t give in to intimidation or pressure. No one wants to waste time. Expect last minute cancellation of plans.
VIII Justice – What comes around goes around. Seek legal counsel, ask advise from elders. You may be embroiled in negotiations or the tedious bureaucratic system. Do healthy things – spiritually and physically. When reversed: Tell the truth or suffer the consequences. Your friends are wishy-washy now. Do your part to say what’s real, what’s right, and what you feel! Let go of the past and resolve to turn over a new leaf.
IX The Hermit – Break an unnecessary habit. Take steps to eliminate unhealthy ruts and routines. Have some of your “friends” been driving you crazy? Now is a good time to get them out of your life. Don’t let yourself get stuck in expectations of others. When reversed: Spend time with someone you love; take care of unfinished business. Don’t let your responsibilities weigh you down and stay away from anything that goes against your grain.
X The Wheel of Fortune – You made your bed, now you must lie in it. Own up to your actions and responsibilities or suffer the consequences. Be true to yourself. Try something new. When reversed: Luck isn’t on your side just now. Don’t get embroiled in anything you’ll regret – stay constructively selfish. This is not a good time to be alone, though. Ask questions, seek answers, try options.
XI Strength - Love conquers all. Avoid pettiness and prejudice. Try to be a peace maker. Weigh all sides of every situation. Don’t be so set in your ways that you miss the big picture by focusing on the details. Stubbornness is your challenge of the moment. When reversed: everyone expects the best from you and vice-versa. Arguments with your lover or close associates are likely now. Don’t give in to intimidation or pressure, and never go to bed angry. Are you seeing things realistically? Wait one more day to take action.
XII The Hanged Man - Rise above material concerns and the way things have always been. Try another avenue. Relax and rethink. Keep everything abouveboard. Allow others to change their minds and look at new opinions. When reversed: Contemplate, don't agitate. Stop being so close minded. There are plenty of alternate solutions to your problem. Try something new. This is no time to be lazy or melancholy.

Avoid self-pity. get rid of some old habits, stop doing what doesn't feel right. When reversed: This card suggests you are egoccentric. Be prepared to lend a shoulder and a handkerchief. Ask and offer favors.

People around you are more set in their ways. Postpone arguments until they can open up their minds. When reversed: Those around you are playing to win. Don't be foolish or self-centered. But don't believe all you hear, either. There's alot of posturing in the air. Accept favors, be kind and listen to your higher-self.
XV The Devil - Matter overpowers mind. Desires rule. Bewareof your dark side. The pursuitof materialisticness or sensual pleasures may taint your ability to think clearly. Cleanse yourself of behaviors and habits that are doin no good. When reversed: Things are unclear for you now. Don't let yourself be intimidated and don't judge others too harshly. Others seem uptight, set in their ways. Are you? Don't let past issues cloud today's progress.
XVI The Tower - Everyone wants to be admired. Others embellish the truth, but that's what's necessary and reality will prevail. Illusions will be shattered, enemies revealed. Don't be upset if things don't turn out a planned. Try to compromise and see other's views. When reversed: Delays are inevitable. A fall from glory is likely. Be prepared to change course midstream. There is more pushiness than cooperation now. Meet opposition with copassion ans sympathy.
XVII The Star - This is the card of optimism and hope. You have a chance to start over in long-standing relations. Beware of pride; aim for cooperation and innovation. When reversed: Remain humble. You'll need imaginations to come up with optionsfor actions now. Examine and evaluate issues carfully.
XVIII The Moon - People are acting clannish and very emotional. Don't join the crowd. Read between the lines. Your intuition is very strong right now, but you're still likely to be deceived. this is not the time to start anything new. Have patience. When reversed: Everyone wants things dnoe his or her way, so go easy on yourself. Take a mental-health day to get away from your responsibilities. When you come back, roll with the punches. Don't be too trusting or willing to go the extra mile - unless you can afford it.
XIX The Sun - Any personal growth you acheive now will be linked to self-expression. Say what you feel when you feel it. Accept critisism and admit mistakes. Enthusiasm and self-assurence bring result. A promotion is on the horizon. When reversed: Relationship hassles are likely. Don't get wrapped up in yourself so tightly that you ignore other's needs. Stop being overly dramatic. Set goal realistically and try to do good for everyone involved.
XX Judgment - A job well done delivers many rewards; laziness is punished. Make peace - don't nit-pick yourself or others too harshly. Patience brings success. Don't be cruel. Health improves, but it may take som effort on your part. When reversed: Your desire to escape is strong. Keep your earsopen and your mouth closed; listen. Read all the fine print. Self-esteem is low and needs a boost. Act now without fear - shiftinto high gear!
XXI The World - Look at both sides of every situation and surround yourself with those who truly love you. Refuse to get shaken when others try to undermine your confidence in your strengths and abilities. Rewards and paybacks are just around the corner. Don't give up anything for anyone.
