He was pushing his luck, and he knew it down to the marrow in his bones, but no matter what he did, the grazing in this forest was the best he could find, and in this harsh leave of winter, it was all Redwing could do to survive. The great red stag gently used his velvetted antlers to push frost out of the way and nibbled quickly on the meager blades of green grass that pushed through, his great bulk freezing every now and then to wait and listen and make sure he was still alone in this barren forest. His great red pelt did nothing to hide him in these woods, and no matter what he did, the thick winter coat would not be dulled to hide himself better. Glancing around, the red stag noted some early buds on the naked twigs of the trees around him. Looking all around for any movement, he reared onto his hind legs, placing his forehooves on the bark of the hawthorn and reached out his neck in an attempt to reach the buds. Pulling a few down with his teeth and finding them bitter, Redwing lowered himself again, carefully and as quiet as he could.
All around him were the scents of the herd. He was still trespassing, and no matter what he did, he could not draw himself away from this place. The grazing was reasonable, and the stag could not afford to loose any more weight. He was a large stag, formiddable even, but he was not invincible, and he needed his bulk to intimidate others away. The life of a rogue, though having its moments of joy and pleasure, were hard lives, and often lead to him being bullied off of good pastures by the stronger rogues. Sure he was big, but he wasn't built for fighting. His strength was speed, escape. It made him perfect for sneaky entrances to these kind of herdlands, but it didn't make him overly good for protecting himself. He knew if he were to become a successful stag, a stand alone stag with his own hareem here, he would need to change that and build on his brute strength, sacrificing his speed for muscle weight, but until hinds became interested, he would remain his light footed self. He hadn't named himself Redwing for just the patterns on his sides, oh no. He ran like he had wings on his back, quick, sure and powerful.
Pulling himself out of his reviere, Redwing shook out his mane, a quiet snort blowing from his nostrils. His ear flicked with the irritation of a mite, and using one of his powerful back legs, he twisted his neck round so he could scratch at it. Standing silently for a few more minutes after that task was completed, dark silver eyes, mercury pools of careless wonders, blinked slowly, pale brows low, posture almost relaxed. There had been no sighting of the herd that stalked these forests. He had heard them called Firebringers, but he was unsure if he had heard correctly. It was supposed that they were decended from the great Herle himself. Whatever the truth, Redwing knew getting into a tussle with one would probably be detrimental to himself. Sighing a little, the great stag took a few tentative steps forward, paused, a shiver running down his body, making all those powerful muscles twitch and ripple, then started a long traipse to the next area he may be able to draw some sustainance. His muscles tightened as he stepped carefully, preparing to flee should another hear him. He truely hoped they wouldn't, but one could never be too careful, after all.

He and his twin had been quick to grow, and already Aidan was now a fresh member of the corps. His first set of real antlers were growing, and already there were the signs of tines. Instead of a pricket, he was showing good antlerage early on... surely a trait from his father who had been the same way. It was just how the genetic dice rolled. He was a handsome young fellow.. with a pelt of blazing red, even brighter than Redwings... with pure white on her undersides and a blanket of black on his back with starry speckles of white. A crescent moon on each hip as well. Blazing blue eyes, were dutifully scouring the area... for he wanted to show everyone that he could live up to their high expectations. He knew his older brother was a little on the weird side... and he would prove to be an even better corps member and outrider than him!
All senses were alert, and he looked up at every slight noise. The pecking of a woodpecker, the scurrying of a squirrel.. every sound.. but it turned out to be nothing. Ho hum. He was starting to get bored.. but no less diligent.. and then it hit him. The smell of a strange stag that didn't smell like the rest of the herd. Ears pricked forward and across the frosty ground he went, following scent and seeking out the male. Eventually, he saw an antlered head among the barren trees. "Hey you!" Aidan called out, advancing the unknown stag. Now, while Aidan was large for his age, the mature stag was still larger than he. That didn't deter him though, he was bound and determined to do his duty and be looked upon favorably.

The red stag had already heard something a little further behind himself and had frozen mid-step, a hind-hoof raised, ears back in the direction of the voice that called out just as he dared turn his head. It was a young voice, though Redwing's eyes saw that age was not something to use to his advantage. The young corps was still large, and he was clearly out to prove himself. Pale brows lowered, ears snapping forward as Redwing planted that hind-hoof and draw himself up to his full height. The corps was still relatively small compared to the rogue stag, but it was clear even now, should they meet again in the near future, this young corps would best even him in size as a young stag. Darkened silver eyes narrowed at the youngster, a small, inquistive flick of his ear at the youngster's harsh words. From a simple glance, Redwing assessed this corps had something to prove, and Redwing wasn't about to become his target for getting his own back at those that looked down on him.
"I wouldn't challenge me corps, if you knew what was good for you." Darkened silver eyes darkened still with the scent of a challenge. His pale brows rose, and he presented his tines to the youngster. He hoped to simply dominant the young male with his size and get away cleanly. It was foolish to joust with one so young. He would be hunted, for sure. Tilting an ear back and away from the male, in an almost disinterested fashion, Redwing used a sharp burgandy hoof to scrape at the frost beneath him. "Take a hint lad, and move on. Pretend you never saw me and I shall go on out of this land. I have clearly overstayed my welcome." His words were picked carefully, to both show respect and belittle the corps before him. He knew he was so clearly a rogue, and it was no doubt the corps had picked up on that fact, but he couldn't afford a confrontation with a herd member. "Go on, go back to your games young one. Play hero with the other youngsters of your herd. I shall take my leave of you and your herdlands." Redwing took a few steps toward the corps, dark eyes intent.
"But, you see you stand between me and the freelands. Unless you want me to move your body for you, I suggest you move willingly." Redwing's deep rumbling voice reverabrated through his chest, an intimidation to the other. He shook out his antlers and his mane of fur around his neck and chest, an impressive display of power over the other. Intimidation, yes, but Redwing would return a blow, should one be made, and the corps had no standing with the tiny antlers he possessed. "Come now boy, move!"

Oh ho! So that's how this stranger wanted to play it. Unfortunately for Red... Aidan had inherited his mother's stubborness. The youngster bared his teeth at the stag that flaunted his antlers. "I think I should be saying that.. If you knew what was good for you, you'd not step on these lands. With one bellow I can summon a fleet of outriders." Blue eyes narrowed, not budging an inch despite the words that only seemed to anger. He would not move. The stag could easily go around him.. but he was clearly not intimidated.. for while the older one was bigger... he still had the upper hand.
"You're stealing the food of our herd, which is not taken kindly to. I'll just report you to the Lord and if you're seen again, you'll be sure to be driven out. Unless of course.. you want to join the herd. But then, such disrespectful stags would not be appreciated." Nostrils flared and Aidan held his head high, waiting for what the older male might say next. He knew that if the other attacked.. the outriders would be all over him. Aidan was all but challenging this guy to make one wrong move.

Redwing nearly grinned at the young corps member as he showed such determination to be in control of this situation. Redwing toyed with the idea of pleasing the corps, make him feel good for once, as it seemed to Redwing he hardly ever got where he wanted in an argument from his brash behaviour. Yet... As much as it would probably be better for him to do so, he just could not bring himself to deny his own nature and back down. He was a rogue yes, but he had once been an influential herd member long ago, and he wasn't about to back out of this. A swish of an ear to listen intently to the rest of the woodland in case this youngster was correct and there were outriders near enough to catch him should a call be made, Redwing eyed the corps with increasingly narrowing eyes.
"You would threaten me with the Lord of this herd? A little childish to run home to the master isn't it? And to call in reinforcements because you got yourself into a sticky situation with a bigger stag? Hardly going to do much for the reputation you are so trying to prove." Redwing let a small sweep of a triumphant smile tug at the corners of his mouth. "As for stealing food, can you blame a stag for wanting a little more sustainance then dead grass and the less pleasant bark?" Redwing snorted at the younger, head tilted. "Now, stop being a stubborn fawn who didn't get his own way and move. Carry on your own way."

Well he was still very much a child after all.. so childish he probably was. Not to mention the Lord of the herd happened to be his father, which put quite a bit of pressure on him to be an outstanding member of the herd. He snorted at the rogues words, knowing that the stag was just trying to rile him up and insult him. As for the stealing food bit, "That's not my problem" he stated, "Can you blame me for wanting to protect my herd's limited resources?" And now the stag was telling him to move again. The Buck straightened up and looked the other in the eye, "No." For moving would me that he had submitted to the bigger and older rogue. If he wanted Aidan to move, he would have to make him move... or just go around him.

Redwing let out an audiable sigh of exasperation. This fawn was beginning to annoy him, and if he wanted to get Redwing off of his herdland, he was certainly not going the right way about it. Such behaviour only reminded Redwing of himself a few years prior to this, and he felt a pang of sympathy for this little male. Rolling his eyes as the other took on a more aggressive stance, the red stag planted himself more strongly on the ground beneath him and lowered his head down, antlers pointing forward, eyes still watchful.
"No? Fine then. Buck, you just scored yourself your first enemy. You claim I am disrespectful. No. I'm simply looking out for myself. You, my boy, are little more then a trouble maker." Redwing advanced a few steps, using his antlers to push the younger back, not actually touching him with the appendages, just using them to his advantage and forcing the other to make a decision. Move, or be pushed. Either way, it wasn't a particularly pleasant situation to be in. Especially when trying to prove your worth.

Like Redwing, Aidan wasn't going to allow himself to be pushed around. This was more than just chasing the rogue off the land. It was to show that he meant business and discouraged him from coming back again.. which would probably happen.. especially if he didn't show this stag a thing or two. But whether he could show that remained to be seen. He was a stubborn and naive youngster yes... but wisdom and maturity comes from experience.. something he didn't have.
Blue eyes blinked once as the lowering of antlers and he furrowed his brows in determination. He might be smaller.. and have smaller antlers, but he wasn't about to back down. Thus, Aidan also lowered his, ready to take the stag on should it come to a fight for dominance or whatever it was.
(( If it comes to a fight... we should bring the stats into play and do some rolling. X3 They're fairly close in stats although Aidan would probably get the pants beat off him.. but he might get lucky! 8D ))

((Rolling for strength))
Redwing snorted a little in surprise as the corps lowered his small antlers. Compared to Redwings, they seemed so frail. A flicker of doubt passed through Redwing's mind. This was getting serious, but he just couldn't back down. This young male obviously wanted to prove himself, and Redwing had been in the right place, at the right time, for him to try. Baring his teeth a little in his own frustration, Redwing growled a little. This was going to be a mess, but there was nothing he could do now. The challenge had been made, and if he turned tail, there was no redeeming himself.
"Come then. Show me what you've learned." Redwing let a small, quick smile flash over his muzzle before the determined, concentrating look returned. Bunching the muscles in his hindquarters, he lunged, antlers aimed for the youngster's.

Actually there was something that Redwing could do.. he could have backed down and left. But what will be will be, and Aidan certainly wasn't going to back down. He could have called for help, but he wanted to take care of this on his own. This was his herd's land and he wanted to protect it as best he could. Brows furrowed at Red's words and he too lunged forward to clash antlers as they locked, pushing back against the stag with all the strength he had. Eventually someone would have to back down... as spars like this were generally meant to test the strengths and weaknesses of the adversary.

((Another roll for strength - lets hope it's better then the first XD After this next strength roll, I should think an endurance roll - perhaps that could signify the amount of posts left for that character to finish this fight? The one with the higher roll would most probably be the winner XD))
Redwing grunted at the strength the youngster forced on him, being pushed back with extreme force, hooves ploughing great ruts in the snowy earth beneath him. Gritting his teeth, the great red stag dug into the bunched earth behind him and reared his head up a little, twisting on the small antlers entwined with his own in an attempt to throw the other off balance in his mad drive forward, use the momentum of the other to be his downfall.
That done, the red stag returned the shove, this time hoping to be a little more successful in the drive back.

(( Okay. XD Another strength roll for me too then. ))
Aidan got a bit of a confidence boost as he seemed to surprise the older stag with his strength. He had good breeding after all.. and was quite proud of his lineage. Being the son of the Lord was certainly nothing to scoff at. However, blue eyes blinked at the slightly heavier shove that was given back to him. Aidan stumbling back a bit only to furrow his brows and renew his push for dominance with another shove of his smaller antlers. Whether or not he won, he would show this guy he wasn't just some little loud mouthed weakling... but the thing was.. he wanted to win too.
However.. it would seem that they were evenly matched.
(( Edit: Well that's certainly an interesting outcome as far as strength. XD I guess endurance will have to decide it. ))

((That was certainly interesting XD Pretty much the same rolls but visa versa XD Good for the RP!! Endurance roll then... The person with the lower number will signify how many posts we have left for the fight, sound good? After your roll, we'll start the countdown. After this endurance one, continue with the strength rolls I should think.))
Redwing took a moment of silent triumphant celebration as he shove the other back. His mind clouded a little at the memory of 'the other' only being a growing corps. His strength spoke differently, even if it was the truth to be beheld. Redwing had a feeling that it he took too much quiet exaltation from this meeting, he would loose his cautiousness and return to that brask youngster he had once been, and he knew that that was not an option. Using his momentary increased grip on the earth to bear down on the younger, Redwing gritted his teeth and held fast, head tilted to force the corps head back and into an uncomfortable position, though it was for him too.
"Come on, corps. Back down and we can go on our separate ways. Perhaps I'll let you tell the others you beat me, and then we can just make it quits." He grinned suddenly, a baring of teeth. "What'ya say?"

(( Okay.. although I'm not entirely sure what you mean by countdown. XD; ))
Aidan glared at the stag as his head was pushed back uncomfortably, his own teeth coming to bear. "I think you've mistaken me for a fool" he snapped, ears pinned back. He was far too stubborn to just call it quits. The stag would have to beat him, because Aidan was young and had something to prove. He was the son of the Lord and he had to show that he was the better son. Better than Islwyn and his other two brothers.
Brows furrowed and he took a step back under the weight and pressure of the other's pushing, feeling his endurance slipping a bit. So far he'd held his own, but could he keep it up?
