A while back, I got a fortune cookie that said the following:
"Pardon is the choicest flower of victory."
Now, advice/wisdom fortunes are always my favorite to receive, so I consider myself lucky with this particular one. I have gone through several possible interpretations that this cookie could have, but would love to debate possible meanings and truth behind said nuggets of wisdom.
First, only the winners have the power to forgive.
Second, forgiveness is necessary to ensure victory.
The first interpretation is somewhat straight forward and draws upon the whole "the winners are right" mentality. If one is on the losing side, then they do not have the power to resist the policies and such of the winning party. Those who cannot ensure their own physical security cannot give time to think of their feelings towards those who control their physical conditions. In that sort of setting, only the winning party, who has control of the situation, would have the luxury to think about forgiveness and such. A winning party sets the mood, if you will.
The second option reminds me a tad of WWI, in which the allied forces held Germany completely accountable for the war. Had the punishment inflicted upon Germany been less, perhaps we could have avoided WWII? In this interpretation, forgiveness of the losing party is essential to ensure that the conflict is not continued.
So with that in mind, I ask what others might think of this fortune cookie fortune. Which interpretation, of perhaps a mixture of the two, is an accurate interpretation and do either interpretations have real life wisdom/merit/truth?

I think the first is more how I read it. Of course this is all null and void when you argue with a woman, they're always right, one way or another lol.

It seems like the first interpretation best fits the fortune. It sounds like a vamped up version of "being the one to forgive is the best part about being the winner."

Actually, I think both interpretations may be wrong... In a book I read, one of the characters said, "The greatest warrior is one who never draws his sword." This particular cookie might be saying that the easiest way to win is simply to avoid a fight.
