I'm really stuck on a few question in my homework.

'In each of the following sets of terms. three of the terms are related. One term does not belong. Determine the characteristic common to three of the terms and then identify the term that does not belong.

1. A-T, C-G, A-U, C-T.'

I'm also stuck on this

'Discuss each of the following in a brief paragraph.

Oxytocin is a hormone that helps to regulate blood pressure and stimulates the uterus to contract during childbirth. Following is a DNA sequence that could code for a part of a molecule of oxytocin: ACA ATA TAG CTT TTG ACG GGG AAC CCC ATT. Write the sequence of messenger RNA codons that would result from the transcription of this portion of DNA.'

and this...

'Discuss each of the following in a brief paragraph.

How man guanines are in a DNA molecule 1000 base pairs long if 20% of the molecule consists of thymines?'

and lastly, this

'Discuss each of the following in a brief paragraph

write out the messenger RNA sequence that would be transcribed from the following strand of DNA: T-A-C-A-A-G-T-A-C-T-T-G-T-T-T-C-T-T. Then using this chart, write the amino acid sequence that would be translated when the messenger RNA combines with a ribosome.'

I'm really confused on these, and I've looked through the entire chapter in my book and I can't understand it.

1. A-T, C-G, A-U, C-T.'

A matches with T or U (for RNA)
C matchs with G

so C can't match with T

2.
ACA ATA TAG CTT TTG ACG GGG AAC CCC ATT.

i'm too lazy to do it for you... but replace them via the following

If you see A, replace with "U"... (normally it's T but since it's RNA and not DNA.. you use U)

swap G and C
swap C's with G
Swap T with A

3.
guanines are in a DNA molecule 1000 base pairs long if 20% of the molecule consists of thymines?'

well you know that there's 1000 total
20% is G
so 20% MUST be C (since they are paired up.
the remainer are A and T in equal amount.

3.

um, i don't have the chart on me but here's how you do it

first, transcribe it to RNA.

T-A-C-A-A-G-T-A-C-T-T-G-T-T-T-C-T-T
A U G T T C A U G A A C A A A G A A

then group them together by threes since amino acids are coded by codons which are "3 nucleotides"

"AUG" "TTC" "AUG" "AAC" "AAA" "GAA"

Then translate with your chart. I remember AUG that's it, that's M. (i don't remember full name) but it's a start codon.
good luck

if u need any genetics help or chemistry, just PM me.
