The Ice Princess A literate role-play In the year 549 HE, there lived two kings. One was the sickly king of Scantra, just on the breach of death. His heir was a young man, a cold power-seeker that was hungry for more. The other was the ruler of the nearby realm, Torgiega, and had earned the title, "the peaceful." He had one daughter, a proud and lonely girl named Genova. She was destined to inherit his kingdom, solo ruler. Eager for more land, the prince laid a terrible siege on the kingdom of Torgiega. Hoping for peace, the king traded the princess for Scantra’s retreat. The troops were gone by morning. But so was the princess, his one and only heir. Desire. Love. Murder. How far would you go?
.:Information:. Below, I have listed some of the major and important secondary characters in the roleplay I have created, called "The Ice Princess." Hopefully, you will be able to understand the gist of the story and how the characters fit in after you have read the intro and their descriptions (below). PM me with your choice of character if you want to join. I'll then post your name below the character's name on the list. If all the characters have been taken, and you still want in, PM me with a suggested character and your sample post. I'll let you know if you are good or if I have any suggestions. This also applies to people who want to add a character. Also, romance is definitely promoted (this is a love story), but please, keep it PG-13. You know the deal. Just follow the guild rules and Gaia's rules.
.:About the role play:. Though this is a fantasy RP, there are a few things I don't want. Magic is one of them. Sorry to disappoint all you magic lovers, but it makes the role-play much more interesting if one person can't blast the other off the face of the earth. (Though that would be godmodding and wouldn't be allowed anyway, right kids?) The second thing is, keep it renaissance-ish. This is fantasy and I do love creativity, but let's keep it on the more realistic (and slightly historical) side, eh? That means no electricity, bombs, steam engines, high heels, skimpy clothing, etc. (Except windows, make the windows as large as you would like. Arrow slits aren't to appetizing to me.) Keep it real, folks If you have any other questions, just post 'em below. I'm also now considering this roleplay closed, to avoid the unsuccessful previous recruiting mess.

.:The Characters:.
Princess Genova Sklaminski- +halibut+ Held against her will by the cruel and merciless Prince Raylon, Princess Genova Sklaminski is locked inside the dreary fortress of Scantra. She is tall and slender, with pale skin and golden tresses. Her eyes are a piercing blue, but they hold misfortune in there grasp. Her father, the king of a nearby land, sold her to Raylon in exchange for his own skin. She harbors no grudge against him, but pities him, which is infinitely worse. The princess has no idea what will become of her. And the prince is sinister beyond her wildest imagination.
Seana- +Inuzenko+ As the clever and wry handmaiden of Princess Genova Sklaminski, she is a natural-born spy. She is only loyal to her mistress, and loathes the prince with a passion. She is small and slightly plump, with raven black hair and a wicked gleam in her dark chestnut eyes. Her family has worked for the royal family of Scantra for generations. She has a reputation of being a fine servant, and trustworthy. The princess intrigues her to no end.
King Luciano of Scantra- +mark of dragons+ Father of Prince Raylon, King Luciano is the ruler of Scantra. But he is very sick, barely fit to run the mighty realm of Scantra. Always trusting of his darling son, he entitled the prince to govern the kingdom in his absence. But the prince has gone crazy with greed for power. Waging war with the nearby Torgiega, threatening the other kingdom and capturing the princess. Though both as a father and a king, Luciano has tried to stop the prince, Raylon now acts irrationally, ruling without his father's blessing. The king is growing weaker by the day. And now all he can do is watch in horror as both kingdoms are torn apart.
Prince Raylon of Scantra- +blissfulbhajan+ Handsome and charming, the crown prince of Scantra captivates all the young women's hearts at court. He is a young and slim politician, with a cat-like grace that matches his unruly dark hair and emerald eyes. But behind his dazzling smile, a cold glint frames his eyes. Power has made him hungry for more. His dying father has already left the kingdom in his cruel hands, positive his darling boy will make the perfect king. But he is far from right. Hoping to make his kingdom larger, he threatens the nearby kingdom of Torgiega. Desperate for peace, the king trades his only heiress, Princess Genova, for the prosperity of the kingdom. The prince plans to marry her, thus owning her father’s kingdom when he dies. He craves for power. And he will do anything to get it.
The High Chancellor of Scantra- The High Chancellor of Scantra is vain, rather ugly, and as sly and sleek as a fox. His only pleasures are serving his prince and looking down on certain, unfortunate others. He is one of the prince’s henchman, slithering around the castle with his bombastic nose stuck high into the air.
Nurse Helen- Nurse Helen is kind, witty, understanding, and strong as an ox. Not much is missed by her big brown doe eyes. Her gentle touch can soothe the most restless child. She and her family have been in serving the Royal family of Scantra for generations, but she is also much respected as a family friend. Nurse Helen was put in charge of raising Prince Raylon. She loved the young prince dearly. But when Queen Kilja passed away, Nurse Helen was forced out of the castle for two years to care for the grieving mother of the late queen. When she returned, the Prince had changed drastically. She now works in the Prince's fortress determined to help her 'child' in anyway possible.
Baroness Jessal Cimichi- +Yorlene+ With her flirtatious smile and petite figure, the Baroness has all the men at the royal court wrapped around her finger. She goes through them like clothes, flirting, seducing, then throwing them away. Her gleaming chestnut hair and seductive smile beckon to the opposite sex, young and old, rich and poor. But the only male she really desires, the prince, has plans to marry the beautiful and proud Princess of Torgiega. Driven by the desire to be wealthy, Jessal plots to murder Genova, taking her out of the grasp of the prince forever.
Frederic Viviano- +brocoli_apocolypse+ A hostler in the fortress of Scantra, Frederic is tall and strong, with giant hands that could gentle even the most wild colt. He has always been a calm young man, with dreamy brown eyes and dirty straw colored hair. Until he meets the Princess Genova Sklaminski entirely by chance. He falls in love with her instantly, feeling a passionate drive that he has never felt before. His look is more determined, and he realizes that in order to win the heart of his fair ice princess, there is only one thing he can do. And it is a suicidal task. He must slay the prince of Scantra.

.: razz lot Summary: Part One::. The Ice Princess begins on a stormy winter day, with the Princess Genova Sklaminski gazing out onto the sea. She is trapped in the royal palace of Scantra, imprisoned by the Prince Raylon, the heir to the throne. The prince has been waging a war against the princess's homeland, the nearby kingdom of Torgiega. About three years before, the king had traded Genova for the safety of his kingdom. But the prince has renewed his attack on the kingdom, and on the old and frail king.
Genova is very beautiful, and the prince is determined to marry her for political and personal reasons. He woos her by the day, and believes he has already won the battle for the kingdom of Torgiega. By conquering the kingdom or marrying the princess; either way he will earn more power. But the princess is adamant, she is determined to save her father, her kingdom, and herself from the malevolent prince.
Meanwhile, the seductive Baroness Jessal Cimichi plots to marry the prince herself, thus gaining power and her alluring prince. The prince, however, is immune to Jessal's scheming plans. The baroness sees he wants to marry Genova, and quickly builds up a large and dangerous grudge against her.
But the prince is still haunted by the ghosts of the pasts. The princess has awakened memories he has long pushed away, memoirs of things that made him the way he is. Something is shifting inside him, but for good or bad? And more importantly, why?
Amidst the internal and external struggle enfolding the prince and princess, a young hostler by the name of Frederic Viviano has yet to be drawn into this strange conflict of past and present. He spends his days gentling the colts and tending to the many warhorses of the palace. Frederic is quite content with his life, and wishes for nothing more. But his life, too, is about to change.
Partly out of boredom and partly to avoid the prince, Genova decided to visit the stables and take a ride one windy day. Unbeknownst to her, the prince has also chosen to take a ride, unsettled by a long night of old memories.
The prince arrives at the stables first. He is greeted sullenly by the head hostler, Frederick. The stable hand hates Prince Raylon because of both his imperious manner and his treatment of the princess, the woman Frederick loves passionately from afar. The prince however, notices nothing except Frederick’s strong build and begins to think he could go far in the army. He invites the hostler to take a ride with him, feeling he would do well to befriend this giant and help his career along.
However, at that moment, the princess appears in the stable. Raylon immediately invites her along on their ride, treating her in a surprisingly cordial manner. He introduces the Genova to Frederick, who turns suddenly embarrassed. An electric feeling passes between them, and the princess realizes she could use this stable hand to help her escape. As Frederick turns to get her horse, she pleads for his help in a frantic whisper.
Frederick is both overjoyed and confused by her message, but goes and saddles a horse for the princess, understanding the vital need for secrecy. However, as Frederick stumbles and stutters through trying to help her and the prince mount, she questions her selection. Had she really asked that clumsy brute for help? The prince, scoring unexpectedly, ends up helping Genova on to the horse. Frederick, seeing that he lost the trust of the princess, vows to help her always after that moment.

.: razz lot Summary: Part Two/The Future::.
After Frederick’s abandonment at the stable, the princess is still determined to find someone to help her escape. She falls to Seana, a friendly and witty chambermaid who happens to loathe the prince. Seana blames the prince for the death of her brother, who died in battle, drafted into the kingdom’s army.
However, Nurse Helen, Seana’s aunt and the prince’s old nursemaid, urges them not to loathe him so much. Though understanding the princess’s situation, she alone has the key to the prince’s miserable past.
Meanwhile, the prince has taken an interest in the hardworking and seemingly loyal hostler Frederick. The prince, though younger by a year, looks on him as a special ward, and wants to help him succeed in life. He promotes Fred into the army, knowing that if he is successful, Frederick will be in the prince’s debt. The prince sees Frederick as a strong man, and thinks he will take orders easily.
The princess, seeing Raylon’s trust in Frederick, decides to give him another chance to help her. With the assistance of Seana’s clever mind, she comes up with a brilliant plan to advise the prince to move Freddy up the ranks of the army. Thus, Freddy will have more contact with the princess and they can plot without raising suspicion. As Frederick is promoted to leader of a small division of cavalry and foot soldiers, Genova is able to regain contact with her initial savior. Frederick is now faced with a very difficult situation. He knows that he must kill the Prince to save the woman he is beginning to love, but he is learning that the prince has problems of his own, ones that the prince has no control over. The princess is beginning to see a kinder side of Raylon as well, and begins to relax and worry a little less about her future. With the prince getting steadier by the day, and Frederick there to watch over her, what could possibly harm her?
But other eyes were watching as the prince began to free himself from his malevolent past. The baroness Jessal and the High Chancellor of Scantra, fearing for their powerful positions at court, plot to draw the prince back into his old ways. Working together, they approach the prince from physical, and emotional, sides. While the baroness flirts and taunts the prince back into his old, cruel moods, the chancellor slowly begins to poison the king of Scantra, thinking that with the king dead, the king’s influence of good over his son will be gone.
The king, on his death bed, makes two final wishes. He bids the prince to marry the princess, and then retreat from her native lands, thus taking over her kingdom peacefully, without hurting anyone. These wishes please the chancellor immensely, who knows that more power for the prince entails his own strengthening of authority.
The princess, however, is frightened at the thought of marriage to the prince. He has begun to terrify her again, thrown into black moods by the baroness and the chancellor. She goes to the king, begging him to charge the prince to give her a year of betrothal, thus giving her another year to escape. The chancellor, seeing that Genova means to interfere with his plans, murders the king that very night. The king never gets a chance to advise the prince in a long engagement. After the funeral, the chancellor counsels the prince to marry Genova soon. Raylon announces the wedding the next day, setting the date for in a week’s time. Genova is horrified, but the chancellor and the baroness celebrate in their newly found success.
However, the chancellor and the baroness fear the prince’s friendship with Frederick. They see he is too good, and if provided with too much power, could be a threat. They decide to turn the two against each other, knowing that the prince, if angry, would execute Frederick himself. The chancellor and the baroness begin to tell lies to the prince about Frederick. This causes the prince to begin to hate his former friend and makes him cruel and spiteful to the unsuspecting Frederick. Angered by the prince’s behavior and his upcoming marriage with Genova, Frederick strides into the prince’s study one night, sword unsheathed, and challenges him to a duel. The prince draws his sword, and the two friends engage in a fight for their honor, the princess, and their very lives.
While the prince is strong, Frederick has been in constant training these past weeks. He succeeds in mortally wounds the prince, but is then horrified at what he has done. The prince, experiencing the terrible emotional and physical pain of being stabbed by a friend, is finally freed from evil’s grasp. But Frederick’s sword has pierced his gut, leaving him in mortal danger. The chancellor, hearing the sounds of fighting, rushes into the prince’s study just as Frederick strikes his blow. He quickly arrests Frederick and throws him in the dungeon for treachery. The baroness, though loyal to the chancellor’s cause, still believes herself to be in love with the prince. She sends for a maid to come and help nurse the prince with Nurse Helen. However, the chambermaid she sends for just happens to be Seana, Nurse Helen’s niece.
Now in control of the entire kingdom, the chancellor realizes he could have infinite power over all the land by marrying the princess. He locks her in her chamber, believing that the prince will die soon, leaving him the power and the princess. This, of course, throws the baroness into a jealous rage, who hoped to be the consort first of the prince and then of the chancellor king, but was twice discarded for the princess. She stalks into the princess’s room, where she taunts Genova, letting out her anger and envy. Finally, the baroness storms out, determined to make the chancellor see the way of his errors and marry her.
Meanwhile, the prince is healing in body and mind. The prince, deeply in debt to Seana for saving his life, falls in love with her as soon as he opens his eyes. Seana sees he is a good man underneath his shortcomings, and in spite of his past actions, falls deeply in love with him. She and Helen see that the chancellor will kill the prince if he finds out he is healing, and so urge Raylon to hide his rapid recovery.
Raylon, almost healed, realizes he must fight and kill the chancellor to regain the kingdom. Knowing that this could be a suicidal task, the prince professes his love to Seana. Surprised and delighted, Seana kisses him. The prince then explains what he means to do, and though it is dangerous, Seana agrees with his plan to kill the chancellor. While he runs off to find his nemesis, Seana goes to free the princess and Frederick.
Once out of the dungeon, Seana and Frederick steal into the princess’s room. Noticing that Genova and Fred have unfinished business, Seana slips out a side door quietly, leaving them to reconcile and discover their love for each other.
Meanwhile, the prince storms into the chancellor’s rooms, finding him and the baroness in an embrace. The baroness, though evil, is still really in love with the prince. Overcome with guilt, she runs and hides in the study as the prince draws his sword. Throwing insults and accusations at each other, the chancellor and the prince engage in a brief swordfight. The prince stabs the chancellor through the heart, finally defeating both his inner and outer demons.
Seeing the fight has ended, the baroness stumbles out of the study and throws herself at the prince’s mercy, begging and pleading for her life. The prince, pitying her, gives the baroness a choice between exile and execution. She asks for sometime to think. The prince, agreeing, locks her in her chamber. Thinking about the events of late, the baroness realizes the harsh future of exile in a foreign land, without the prince that she loves. In the morning, the prince goes to hear her decision. But instead, he finds her body with a knife in her hand, stabbed right through the heart.
Sadly, Raylon gathers Seana, Genova, and Frederick and tells them of the baroness’s fate. They then make amends with each other, especially the princess and the prince. The two men then propose to their queen of hearts, and a wedding date is set for one week later.
After the two couples are married, Genova and Frederick make ready to return to the princess’s kingdom. Seana and Raylon ride with them as far as the eastern river. They stop on a grassy hill that overlooks the river to say their final farewells. Then the princess and the stable hand ride off to their kingdom, where they sadly find that the king has died.
As Genova and Frederick are crowned king and queen of Torgiega, and Seana and Raylon are crowned the rulers of Scantra, they decide they have finally reached, “happily ever after.”

Genova shuddered as the prince approached her. He seemed to reek of both obsequiousness and arrogance, a hidden and unfathomable element that she did not yet fully understand. A predator in the dark, she thought, gazing at the prince with a wary eye. The princess narrowed her gaze, making a sudden decision. "I can mount up myself, thank you," she said, moving away from the prince. Bunching up her skirts in one hand, she stepped into the stirrup and threw her other leg over Vina. Genova, a victorious and smug smile playing around her mouth, looked down patronizingly on the two men. "Hurry up, will you?" She grasped the mare's rein's tightly in her gloved hands.

Though Raylon gave so sign of it, he was indeed a bit disappointed when the princess mounted herself onto the mare. However something caught his eye as she sat upon the noble creature. There was a fire in her eye, as she smiled so matter-of-factly on her steed. On the one hand, he was angry at her sudden act of impudence; on the other he had seen a spark in her spirit, something he had not seen in her once since she had come to the fortress.
With the grace of royalty, the prince leapt upon his own horse and patted the beast on his neck. This was a fine horse, one of his prized creatures and of impeccable breeding. "Now then, Frederick, set up a horse for yourself- her ladyship commands that we hurry now."

"Yes...Frederick, is it?" she glared down at him, loneliness and anger mixing together in those cold blue eyes. "Hurry and saddle up. The prince and I so depend on you riding with us today. Your proletariat views are so refreshing to hear about." Genova tried desperately to stanch her flow of anger and grief, but her tongue ran heedlessly on. She felt for a moment like the prince, someone who didn't care about the feelings of others. Someone who injected sarcasm and hate into every lasting word. Someone she never thought she would become, even with the shock of the war and her father's cowardly decisions. She looked down and bit her lip, trying not to let them see the expression of self-loathing that had escaped across her face.
