He seemed like a really down to earth kind of guy. I think it would have been awesome to just sit down and talk with him about anything.

I think I'd like to have met him while he was a mop-top Beatle. I dunno why... Also when just before he died. He seemed to be a different person as time went on. You could classify each time.

I think he'd a be a great person to hang out with his witty humor would make for a good time and also because of the fact that I am just as sarcastic as he is I doubt we'd ever be bored. Also I think he really truely cared about others and enjoyed helping people.

I think he would be really funny because people always said he had a great sense of humor. But I also would want to discuss topics like world peace and love about him. His words and thoughts on peace and love were so inspirational and it would be soooo great if I talked to him.

I don't think even John knew what he was like, really. Over time his "persona" changed so much, from the funny, fun-loving man who said sarcastic (but generally benign) things in interviews and drew cartoons and wrote pun-laden poems, to the guy who was serious about everything he had a part in, held grudges and had all this pent up regret, anger, and disbelief in the world around him.
He definitely wasn't perfect, and there have been times where I'd read interviews he'd been in and I'd wanted to go back in time just to yell at him and slap some sense into him, but there have been times where I'd read stories and anecdotes about how wonderful and loving he was and I'd wanted to go back in time to give him a hug and tell him he was the most wonderful person ever.
I've always liked his sense of humor, though, and it was that aspect of his personality that originally attracted me to him, and I think above all else I probably would've tried playing towards that if I ever found myself transported back in time and meeting him. It would probably be safer than trying to get into discussions about hot-button issues, or about the Beatles (because I hear that, towards the end, John really hated when people he met brought up the Beatles).
I think this long post proves that I've thought about this far too much, and I wouldn't be completely surprised if you were all scared out of your wits by now.

I agree with Julia. From what I've read he seems like a great, philosophical person. However, I've also wanted to slap him during some of his interviews because of how utterly rude he'd be to the interviewers. But, certainly I think if you were on his good side he would be an interesting person to talk with, especially about his music (I am the Walrus???? razz )
