He was taking on his fathers buisness, and learnign his profession. He was aprenticing in fishing, trading, and swordsmanship. When his father's boat got attacked by pirates, his father told him to jump off and safe himself, which he took and leaped off. He has been teachign himself how to fish, sail and swordfight on his own on a large piece of wood drfting out on the ocean since.
