The sun had fallen far to the West by the time Raptor had circled the wastelands of the desert enough to cover her tracks and throw off the 'scent' that might otherwise lead back to the stronghold. It was not an easy task, as she had carried a microwave-oven sized radio system with her. The contraption was thrown together, and looked about as shabby as anything else a non-city dweller could sompose out of old, melted parts. It worked, though; and it only needed to work once to serve Raptor's purpose. There was no way to throw off the good doctor's suspicions anymore; not after that radio transmission. She set the box to the ground with more care than she usually had with most machines and picked up the transceiver. She had no means of communication back to the base nor the others still out on the mission she now felt guilty for not taking care of herself. For all that they lacked against his angry little lap-dog, Applewhite was a force she wouldn't wish upon anyone; even the seemingly etherial powered Dr. J. A radio frequency was braudcast accross the desert and through the city. "I hope the doctor isn't too busy for a house call."

Somewhere, in a tiny office. a vey powerful man was smiling in remembrance. Applewite was casual, but decisive in his response. He donned his armor and set out with a group of gaurds, as well as a few of his more trusted officers. He did not truely expect combat, but he had to keep up apperances.

Raptor's eyes were hidden behind thick, reflective shades, which she directed away from the eventual sunset. She sat on what was now a useless box of wires and poorly crafted hookups. Her elbows were propped up on her knees and her hands were folded over her head as she looked out over the gradually cooling desert.

The desert horizon was suddenly disturbed by the appearance of tiny black dots. These dot grew as the distance waned. The flutter of heleicopter blades could be heard far off in the distance. Applewhite sat calmly inside one of these steel birds, waiting for landing. The copters where streamlined and curviture versons of the machines of the former era, each baring the insignia of a white apple on their sides. There where three in all as they made thier apporach on Raptor's location.

(I'll mo ve ahead.) The helocopters reached their destination. They displaced the sandy ground, sending up little dustdevils about the area. Long before the rotors stopped turning., Applewhite set his eyes on raptor. He stepped out alone, his hands held casually behind his back as he approached her, his helmit masking his face, but his stance and armor setting him out as the man in charge.

The white sun had eased into a redish gold as it continued to sink into the endless waste of the desert. Still, she saw no reason to remove her mirrored sunglasses, particularly in the presance of the enemy. Of course there was very little she could do to hide her identity, but the gesture of removing them wouldn't help her cause if it were to be taken as a sign of respect. After all, the man before her didn't seem inclined to reveal anything of himself aside from his influence. She suspected he must have been at about that hero hunter's rank, but the entourage also suggested that he probably didn't have the same degree of physical power. It was usually at this point in any given scenario that her former mentor would have inserted a cocky, fearless remark, just to let their opponent know that they were ready for a fight if need be. The days of bad puns and sympathetic bargaining were over, though. She stood, feet apart and arms folded over her chest. Speaking now threatened to give away the anticipation that was building in her stomach, so she waited.

Applewhite walked casually out of the crowd of his military as they lined up in ranks behind him. He gave a short look at the surrounds. The only thinkg that broke the endless horizon that much of the world had beome in these time's was a single woman with a brocken down radio. Being a gentleman at heart, Applewhite withheld the laugh that threatened to break his calm stance. He looked on at Raptor, remembering what there prcious encounters had effected to. It was slightly unsettling that she was the only one to appear. It was also dissapointing. He had hoped that he oculd turn some of the forgotten heros over to his way of thinking. However, there wa only the one and Gracen could guess why. He decided to break the silence with his usual polite greeting. His mask did nothing to hide his voice, seeing as Aplewhite was always one to make himself plainly known. " Ms. Raik...It is somewhat refreshing to see such a famliar face. I'm sure you can understand the concept of nistalgia after such a time of change and upheaval"

Well, this was certainly a surprise. There wasn't a working set of ears in the world that didn't recognize the voice of the esteemed Doctor, Raptor in particular. She supposed that the good doctor kept to his helmet for the same reason she hid behind the reflective glasses that hid her eyes completely. There was an anger that she couldn't hide without them; an anger that took a number of years to contain, much though it still bit at her heels. Her response was flat and calm, "Its understandable. We do have something of a history."

Gracen was equally supprised. He had expected to hear some quirky remark or soem illtempered ranting, but it seemed that she was not completly without change. "Yes, we do, but that is not exactly what I was referring to. No, I'm afraid I was hinting to the outdated morals are clear and present in this fruitless resistance." he begane to walk freely about, seemingly appraising Raptor. "However...seeing as it was you who answered this call, would it be arrogent to beleave you have had of change of heart Ms. Raik?"

She raised an eyebrow, "Outdated morals? Doctor, you don't really think you've managed to change the standard of human morals in only a few years-? A concience is as much instinctual as marking territory." She gestured with a slight nod towards the symbol of the white apple the good doctor had branded his helicopters with. It had become the universal symbol for authority. To anyone without the privelage of living within one of Applewhite's city walls, it had become something of the new swastica.

Gracen turned his head to observe what she was refering to. He returned to look at her. "Well, proper representation still has it's place but that will fade when this world no longer has a need for me. This sign..even myself will pass from the stage with it's neccesity, just as you did."

A single corner of her lips quirked into an amused smirk. "Neccesity, huh?" she seemed amused. She wasn't certain if he saw it, but by the way he defended his actions he had made himself out to be the second comming of Christ. If anything, he definately thought of himself as a savior of the people and the world. "I'm not so sure the world needed you to contribute to the war in the way you had, much less exclude over half of the population."

Gracen tried in vain to contain the chuckle behind his teeth. " If only you could have been there to see what truly transpired in those days, but no, that's best lost to time I think. Besides, who are you to speak of exclusion. I sent that message on an open signal, detectable by even that archaic machine you have there, and yet you are the only one present. Tell me Ms. Raik, how quickly did you root out all record of that message, what lengths did you go to in order to hide the truth and deny this chance to your compatriats."

The smirk faded. "I won't deny it, Gracen; we are obviously of a simaler mindset," despite her frustration, years of experiance had taught her to keep a cool head and an even tone when dealing with the opposition. The days of cheap one-liners and lingering deathtraps was long gone. Now that she looked back on it, the whole concept behind the hero/villain relationship was more of a sport than civil duty. No more gimics, themes or punns; the enemy would fight with the intent to kill, and they were certainly not hesitant to linger and make sure the job was done. "I just wonder how a supposed genious can terminate nearly the entire Hero population for having too much control, then turn a cold shoulder to his ideology and take over himself... Lets be honest with ourselves, Doctor, back in the day 'world domination' was your ultimate goal. And now that you have it, now that us 'bothersome do-gooders' are out of your way....well, somethings not quite right, is it? You don't feel resolved in your efforts, do you?" She relaxed her shoulders a little, feeling more confident with her decision to answer the call. It didn't matter what he said from that point onward, she was certain of what she thought of him, no matter the argument. She even reached into the side of her belt to pull out a pack of cigarettes and lighter. "I don't want my the people who came to 'me' for protection to be lured in by your exclosive promises. IF anyone else had showed up, they would have tried to kill you...or, maybe they would have taken whatever offer you might have, but at the cost of blinding themselves to the cruelty you are currently denying." She placed what must have been a hand rolled cylander int he dorner of her lips, then replaced the rest back in their hiding spot.
