(Thanks to my CPUSA connections through our CP-list emails)

Just a small message to convey the latest news to the list members: By now most of you must have heard that Benazir Bhutto died today while returning from her Liaqat Bagh rally. She was assassinated by a bullet wound to the neck. Furthermore, her vehicle was subject to a suicide bombing attack. Riots have broken out all over Pakistan especially in the large urban centres such as lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Pindi, Peshawar, Hyderabad etc.

The State machinery has been mobilized against the protestors with the Rangers coming out in Karachi. however, in spite of such draconian tactics this latest backlash is beyond the control of the rangers and riots are progressing unimpeded.

The Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party strongly condemns the murder of the leader of one of Pakistan's largest political party. The method of attack suggests that this is the work of religious extremists which had threatened and attacked Ms. Bhutto on her return to Pakistan earlier this year. CMKP also extends its condolences to the cadres of the People's party of Pakistan who have suffered this great loss. The cadres of the CMKP extend our support to all progressive and secular minded individuals against this recent act of barbarity.

The CMKP would also like to make it clear that the State of Pakistan, especially Gen. Musharraf, is directly responsible for this tragedy because it failed to provide the leadership of the PPP with security against such threats - knowing full well that Ms. Bhutto was in the crosshairs of the extremists.

Long live the secular society of Pakistan!
Long Live Socialism!!
Long Live the resistance to Dictatorship!!!

Lolz at teh popular frontism!

What does the proletariat care about the death of a 'democratic' candidate? While it does show the brazen nature of the right, that brazen attittude is only too becoming in a situation in which the proletariat is not mobilised in its own class interests.
As long as the Pakistani CP ties the proletariat to the 'democratic' movement the proletariat will be helpless, and in fact, it is almost certain that the 'democratic' camp will be helpless as well.

But the CP is stalinist: be it traditional stalinist or maoist, I do not know, and perhaps you could tell me gallenger, but either way, the party is tied to the bourgeois democracy. Only when an independent party of the proletariat seriously poses the question of revolution will the 'democratic' question be solved, but by then it would be too late, for the proletariat to give up proletarian state power in favour of bourgeois democracy would be treason... Either we win or we die, no matter what country it is...
