Scotch Megafleet's Aventures
About the Magnificent Me
Well, my name is Molly, and I’m a seventeen(as of March 1 200 cool -year-old girl who had a fascination and deep affection for our furry little equine friends. I’ve always been attracted to horses for as long as I can remember and am very dedicated to them. Besides horses, I enjoy art and have been encouraged by quite a few people that I should pursue a career in illustration (not a fan, but it’s starting to grow on me). I love, love, love the Des Moines Buccaneers! They’re an armature (USHL) ice-hockey team that showcases 16-21 year olds that are looking for college scholarships. And, I’m not just a fan because there’s quite a few cute guys in the sport, but rather I do find the sport itself very entertaining and intriguing.

Well anyways, lets get to the stuff you really want to know about (hah), the horses! First things first, you need to know what I/my horses have gone through to get where we are. So, I’ll start by talking about Jester Park Equestrian Center. Joy. Can you tell I’m not particularly fond of this place? I volunteered there for nearly three years and they treated me and other volunteers like absolute cr*p. Not to mention the horses that were boarded there. Just uck.
My future mare Lady, was actually bought to Jester while I was volunteering there. She was a healthy, nice, well mannered mare when she came – but after her owner was thrown from her other horse and became terrified of horses, Lady was confined to a 15’x15’ outdoor paddock with no shelter for nearly two years. They considered her crazy and psychotic because she has two blue eyes and I’d stumbled across workers whipping her with the driving lunge on multiple occasions. I offered to take her out to the outdoor arena to let her run around and just get out, but they just blew me off. So – being a bad little girl, after everyone left (which was just idiotic of them in the first place to leave a 14-year-old volunteer completely unattended in a boarding facility) I’d take Lady out and let her out in the outdoor. She’d gallop around for a while and I just watched her until she came trotting over to me and stood at the fence, then I’d take her back.
Then came along Lee. She’s a 50-year-old lady who is also in love with horses like I am. We immediately bonded and she too took a liking to little miss Lady. I won’t go into detail about Lee’s past, but I’ll just say she’s had it rough. She’s not an expert on horses, but is very willing to learn and in general means well. We ended up adopting Lady together and started to nurse her back to health (not only was Lady whipped and confined, she lost quite a bit of weight and in general just wasn’t a very health horse when we got her).
By then, I had convinced my parents that I was truly serious about my love for horses (it’s three years later since I started volunteering at Jester nearly everyday after school and on weekends) and I finally got my very on horse. Jag. My baby boy. We found him by finding a newspaper ad saying,

“Several Show Quality APHA & AQHA for sale or lease. All ages including point producing mares. $1500 & up.”

Funny thing is he is exactly NOT what I wanted in looks: A thin, tall, leggy chestnut gelding. I wanted a FQH, short and stocky – preferably roan, mare or gelding. I did not want a chestnut unless he/she was perfect! But, Jag – he was just the one (CHEESEY, no?) Crabby little booger, wanted absolutely nothing to do with me – but I don’t know. He was just special. You could tell he would test you, but was mannered enough to mind you. So, he was mine!
I was the happiest girl on Earth at that point in time.

The very next day I had him trailered out Jester (not knowing where else to go). That’s when my deep hate for Jester really spread into my heart. They put him in a paddock with three moody mares – known moody mares. I stopped volunteering (the only reason why I had continued is because I couldn’t come out and be with the horses unless I did, and as soon as I became a boarder and got Jag, I had no reason to continue being there slave) and they were resentful and since they couldn’t take it out on me – they took it out on Jag. Oh sh*t – I was a pissy little teen. I immediately started looking for a new barn and it took me (and Lee) two weeks to find a new barn, and it that short time, Jag lost 200lbs and his hide went to crap from all the kick and bites that he got.
So, Lee and I got a person to trailer Lady and Jag out of Jester and we were off to Painted Prairie Acers.

Wow. That place was insane! Beautiful facility, auto-waterers, hay racks, double-dutch doors out to personal paddock which then led out to a 20 acre pasture, indoor wash room w/ heated water. A Large indoor arena with viewing area, an office with bathroom and shower. Over top was a hay loft with drop door to each stall so you’d open the door, push the hay down into the hay rack and walla! Beyond that is a 50 acre pasture (which Jag and Lady were in) and over 200 acres of trail land. Just a great facility.
Man, the people ruined it though. The owner was an a**l b*tch who was just – uh! All the girls that boarded there were snobs to Lee and I because we didn’t have show horses (not to mention Lady was still considered crazy, not because of her attitude though, but she was mental abused, of course she’s shy and spooky.) nor did we show in the first place. So that didn’t last for long. About four months there, we moved to Stony Field.

Not nearly as ‘nice’ of a barn, but it was a barn. Quite a few stalls, smaller indoor arena, two outdoor arenas, 20 acre pasture plus some smaller paddocks. Ect. Ect. While we were there, we bought Sar. Our 29-year-old Arabian gelding. He came to use a elderly, but healthy horse. While there he lost nearly half his body weight and actually went into a seizure (and we were feeding him his serving of evening food every night, only leaving morning feed to the actual barn, so they must have been completely not doing it [not to mention we fixed his grain scoop at night so see if it would be moved by the next evening, which on multiple occasions it wasn’t]) . After that we pretty much flipped the owners the bird and moved on.

From there, we went to a small privately owned place, which I’ll refer to as Lana’s (owner’s name). A small barn, only six stalls, no indoor arena, a round pin, but lots of pasture space. We actually would have stayed there, but out horse’s wouldn’t have had much shelter for the winter months, and it was 40 miles round trip to get there (also the owners were having financial problems, and we didn’t want to be there if they went into bankruptcy) So, we went to where we are now.

This place is like our savor. An elderly couple that used to own horses about 15-20 years ago said we could pretty much ‘have’ the land for our horses, we just have to take care of them and do everything (They’re so willing because if they have horses on their land, they get tax reduction for livestock, and they can’t be forced to sell their land to developers, so it’s a good deal for them as well.). We don’t have to pay board so it’s pretty much like it is our own little place. And best of all, it’s only two miles away from my house.
There’s a small barn, three stalls, a feed area, huge tack room, and the barn is walk in for the horses for shelter. Out side there’s a small paddock which connects to a lane or leads out to the front pasture which is around 3-4 acres large. The lane leads back to the back pasture which is 6-7 acres large and has a small stream running through it and trees for natural shelter. So, it’s just a great little place for us.

And that’s pretty much where we are now! Happy in our little barn with our three horses. :3

Basics first; Jag is my six-year-old (as of June 2007) registered breeding stock paint gelding. He's my first horse and I love him with all my heart and sole. I bought him two years ago in the summer of 2005 when he was a wee four-year-old and before I had him, he was being showing WP classes as a two-year-old.

Commander Pinchy needed a team to get into the tournament. For this purpose, it was searching through the woods. And getting tired of it. And it hadn't had anything to drink for a while. So, it exited the woods to walk to the lake. At that point, he saw a few pokemon.... Four drifloon, a drifblim.... Not allowed in the current tournament....... and a machamp. .... Machamp was all good. But, Commander Pinchy would first have to convince it to join him. So it yelled to it, "Sci!" And upon hearing this, the machamp jumped off and would come down in an attempt to slam the scizor into the ground. ... And Commander Pinchy wouldn't attempt to dodge, allowing the machamp to hit with an attack that caused the ground to shake and crack, and throwing up a cloud of dirt. A second later, the machamp would be sent flying out of the dirt cloud and into a tree. Result of a counter. Commander Pinchy was in a hell of alot of pain. And there were five worried baloon pokemon flyng to attack it. Along with a headstrong machamp, who now had his guts ability activated, wanting to continue. One team mate shouldn't be this much damn trouble.

Happy New Year!
So, today I had to feed in the morning, but - had to wait to clean stalls ect. because my dad needed the truck. Didn't get out to actually clean up until around 2pm.
Thankfull Sar's stall was relitivally and easy clean - I think I'm going to try and talk Lee into feeding Sar's hay to him with his big green bucket rather then a hay bag. He wastes alot of it when it's in his hay bag. D'x
So, the highlight of the day was while I was mucking out the paddock, a big slab of snow came unstuck from the roof and fell down spooking the horses. Jag decided that he'd forget about the gate opening and just jump the panel fencing into the pasture. O.o;;
I was just a tid bit stunned.
All the horses have been alittle hyper-energetic lately. Yesterday when I let Sar from his stall he went troting out the pasture and Jag and Lady oddly followed. Soon enough the three of them were full out racing along the perimiter of the pasture. After three laps I called Sar and he being the good boy came over and I shut him in the pasture while Jag and Lady kept going - I didn't want him to have one of his episiods or slipping.
Wow, I don't think I've ever seen Jag run that fast willingly. I mean - he was a bullet.
Lady is usuaslly the one that goes full out, she was and Jag just blew by her. The two must have gone around five more times before finally stopping. About ten minutes later they were both dozing off. x D
Don't have to feed tomorrow morning, Bob's going to do it. Yay!

So, I finally gave in yesterday and went out and bought six bags of pine shavings for the asile way (horses have free access to it) so one, it'd smell all nice and two, it just looks better than corn cob bedding (I'm such a sap) and is much fluffier. I got there right as Lee was getting done with evening chores and went ahead a put all six bags in. Jag and Lady, of course, immedietly pee'd on it to make me go and clean it up. Then Jag decided to lay down right in the middle of it and take a nap. xD
So, I left him like that last night, and when I came to do morning chores this morning, he was still laying down (had gotten up and at least changed positions) right in the middle of the asile. Dork. He obviously liked the new bedding.

So today was lots of fun. It was around fourty degrees today, so all the snow is melting and making everything nice a moist. The frozen poop that'd we'd not been able to get up was now defrosted, so Lee and I spent about four hours just cleaning the paddock spick-and-span.
We got the nices compliment for the people that live there's older son. He said that our barn was the cleanest and safest barn, commercial and private he'd ever seen. xDD I love him now.

We got the light installed in Sar's stall so now we keep that on when he's inside for the night. His eye sight in his right eye is pretty much gone now. :c He follows you around like a big puppy down and tries to keep his mussle on you at all times when you're around or leading him. Poor baby - though he's doing really well for being nearly twenty-nine. I'm just amazed at how much he's changed in the past four months since we moved to this barn where we are doing everything and completely monitoring his food. I mean, it's amazing. I can't wait to see him once he sheds out and doesn't look like a big fluff ball. xD

We only have four bales of hay left! O.o;; We need to go scout out some people that have some. We'll probably get about 20 like we did last time, that lasted us for about a month and a half - and that was in the 'worst' of the winter. I hope John has some, I really am pleased with his bales. They're pretty consistant in size, pretty leafy and green, and the flakes are nice and compressed so we get our money's worth. :3

Well, that's all for now. Have to go to bed since I have school tomorrow (groan). Finals are in 3 days, so I'll be nice and stressed. BUT THAT MEANS HALF THE SCHOOL YEAR IS OVER! XD Yay!

Some snap shots I took yesterday- Jag took a nice long roll in the snow. xd

January 27, 2008

Well, it's been quite exciting these past couple days. Eh - I don't know if exciting is the word, oh! What ever, you can decide for yourself what you'd like to call it.

So, Jag has had a bit of a cough this week. Not great, but I've been keeping an eye on him to make sure it's nothing other than a cold. No runny nose or eyes, hasn't had a noticable fever and is eating well (as well as having normal bowel movements), so I'm not too worried about it. He only coughs when he has his head in the hay bail (which is probably a big cause, but can't afford anything else ]: ) or does any physical activity. So I'm just going to wait and see what happens.

Yesterday I went out to feed and lunge Jag a bit to see how he was doing. While I'm leading Jag from the barn out into the pasture, my heart does a flip flop. Theres blood everywhere. Immedietely I check Jag's nose and mouth to make sure he wasn't coughing/sneezying blood (which he wasn't) and then a check over him for any wounds. Don't see anything on him, so I tie him up and check over Lady: nothing. Lastly Sar, my old man Sar. I quickly find a cut on his right front cornet which is around 2-2.5" long that wraps around the outside of his cornet, back down into the bulbs of his heel. I go grab a halter and warm some water up in the microwave and get the medical seringe to clean it off.
After doing all that, I see that's it's about a cm deep and is still bleeding quite a bit (which is to be expected given the place it's in) and hot to the touch. Not swollen and didn't seem to be limping bad, but he wasn't particularly fond of me touching it our keep weight on it for long. So I get a hold of Lee (partner owner) and see what she wants done with him.
We decided not to call the vet out (due to the office all ready being closed, so it would be concidered an emergency visit which cost a butt load!), but I went ahead and cleaned it off better, put some anti-infectant stuff on, a gauze padding and wrapped it with lovely purple vet wrap and set him up for time in his stall.

After that I stripped Jag's stall because it was just - uck - and put lime down and let it sit and dry over night.

---

Today;

Had to get up and do chores this morning. Went to Shoppers (like TSC) and got some wood shavings for Jag's stall and a bag of barn lime and headed out to the barn.

Sar looked good this morning, his didn't destroy his wrap so that was good, and still wasn't limping. After I fed Jag and Lady, I threw them out into the pasture with some hay and let Sar out to get some freash air in the paddock while I made up Jag's stall and mucked Sar's and the paddock.

I went a little OCD on Jag's stall. xD
Instead of just putting some new bedding down, I sweeped it completely clean, scrubbed all the stuff off the walls (it was like, 40 degrees out today!), cleaned out his feed bucket and water bucket, and just went a bit bizzerk.
It smelled so nice afterwards though! Nice new pine shavings and everything clean and sparkely. C:

Mucked the paddock and such, and then after Sar had been out for 2-3hours, put him back in his stall (he wasn't exactly pleased) and let Jag and Lady back in.

So, that was my day!
x'S
It's suppost to rain tomorrow (YUCK!).

OH! Totally random, but I just found out that some sudent at my school tried to burn down the highschool! x'D
Too bad he got caught.

Oh yes, and I forgot. I got this absolutely amazing shot of Jag and I'm in love with. Got it about a week and a half back, so meh!
