Prologue

There exists a world full of dreams and adventures. A world filled with the most wonderful creatures known as Pocket Monsters, or for short Pokemon. What are Pokemon you ask? They are like the animals and life forms of our earth, only they share their world with people. And they live everywhere: in the sky, in the city, in the seas, in a fiery mountain filled with volcanic activities, deep within lush forests with large trees, they can be found.

People and Pokemon live together by supporting each other. Some people play Pokemon, some battle with them. But we don’t know everything about Pokemon yet. There are still many mysteries to solve. What we do know is there are nearly 500 identified species of Pokemon which fall under one or two of seventeen types: Grass, Bug, Poison, Fire, Water, Ice, Normal, Flying, Dragon, Electric, Psychic, Ghost, Rock, Ground, Fighting, Steel, & Dark. What more is known is that some Pokemon evolve and others don’t; there are various methods of how a Pokemon evolves, but there is still much we as humans don’t know.

Humans interact with Pokemon in just as various ways. Several of them start when they’re young and travel the globe known as a Pokemon Journey. They start in the town of their region’s lead Pokemon expert and go wherever they wish. Most of them begin as Pokemon Trainers and battle head to head with others. Some of them start as coordinators, working with their Pokemon by battling in an artful manner in beauty and perfection. Whatever option they choose, they are sure to make it to the top no matter what. Humans and Pokemon work as partners, building wisdom, courage, power and friendship mutually. As friends, as partners, letting their hearts meet, they lived and got along well with each other. On the other hand, there are also those who would use Pokemon to realize their own ambitions; such as world domination.

Our tale begins when a group of thirteen year olds head out towards a place called Pallet Town to start their Pokemon Journey.

“………….. ZZZ… Hmm? Wha? You woke me up! Will you check the clock for me? What time is it? What? Five am? How many into five? Five sharp? I overslept!”

New: Kenny & Squirtle, Charlie, Tracey, & Professor Oak

Bright warm summer skies, lush green meadow of grass with a bumpy mold of soil in the middle of a forested path stood a thirteen year old boy panting hard as if he has been traveling for some time now. He wore a red hoodie sweater with white accents over a black shirt with a pair of bright yellow shorts with black accents. On his feet a pair of black sneakers with accents of white and yellow and straps of red. On top of his short black hair with messy bangs stemming from a black and yellow cap. As he bent down to fit his shoes tighter, the young teen took a glance at a black device that rested over the left sleeve of his sweater.

Somehow, he always knew when the darn thing was gonna go off. Bbriiiiiiing, it rang like a default cell phone ringer, bbriiiiiiing! He finished adjusting his shoes and answered it, “Hello? Oh hi mother, I’m almost there. Chomp? Oh he’s resting in his PokeBall right now. Okay, I’ll give your regards to the Professor. All right, I love you too. Bye.” He clicked a button and looked ahead. About several yards away, he could pick out a grove that lead into town, he wasn’t very far now.

With a burst of a speed he ran towards the town as he felt his heart beat very hard with excitement. This is the moment he’s been waiting all his life, to become a Pokemon trainer. As soon he was a yard closer to town, he whipped out a red and white PokeBall with a yellow thunderbolt sticker on top and threw it out. “Come on out, Chomp!” He called out loud, skidding into a stop as the ball opened up in a burst of white light. A few feet away, after the bright light died down, stood a very short blue alligator-like Pokemon standing upright on two legs with red spikes ripping from its backside. “We’re here Chomp.” The boy called out to the creature as it spun around to meet its trainer face to face.

“Dile?” It spoke as it titled its head with confusion.

The boy walked up and knelt down to the creature’s level and put a hand on its head, “Come on and help me find this Professor Oak’s lab, okay?”

“Toto,” Chomp replied as it reeled its head back and bit the boy’s hand whole.

Pain surged from the hand as the boy let out a loud “OUCH!” The creature let go of its grip its mouth, allowing its trainer to pull his hand out, unharmed, and then waved it hard in the air as it throbbed painfully. After waving it for five minutes, he consulted Chomp. “I told you not to do that.” He scolded it as he opened and closed his hand repetitively. Chomp just gave a small chuckle and led the way into town. “Hey, wait up!” He called after it as he got ready to chase. Thud!

“Ugh!” the young trainer groaned in pain as he found himself sitting on the ground on his buttocks. “What happened?” He asked himself as he glanced in front of him to find a boy about his age with spiky blood-red hair wearing a black shirt and a pair of indigo pants sitting on the ground as well.

He groaned in pain and shot up glaring at the boy, “What is your problem!?” He shouted as his dark colored eyes pierced into the boy’s gold ones.

“I-I’m sorry!” the boy said as he got up, “My Totodile ran into town and I was about to go after it….”

“You still should look before you leap,” the kid said with an unconcerned voice as he dusted himself off. After making sure nothing was damaged, he looked at the boy, “A Totodile huh? I saw it…” As he said that, Chomp ran back and hopped around its trainer. The kid gave out a heavy sigh with closed eyes, “Are you by chance going to see Professor Oak?”

“I am,” the boy nodded as he watched Chomp hop up and down, feeling slightly embarrassed. He then looked at the kid, “Why? Would you know where his lab is?”

“It’s the largest building in this town,” the kid said without hesitation, “you’d have to be an idiot to not miss it.” He then passed the boy and walked on without another word.

The boy nodded slowly, expecting there to be more, but he realized he’s not going to get more information than that and he’s been blown off, “HEY! THANKS FOR NOTHING!” He yelled after the kid but got no reply. He glared and spat on the ground as the kid kept on walking until he disappeared in the distance. “Jerk,” the boy spat again as he and Chomp ventured into Pallet Town.

As they walked around, the boy couldn’t help but complain and rant, “He said he’s Professor Oak’s grandson didn’t he Chomp? You’d think he’d been more helpful then that!” After passing the first couple of blocks, he stopped to observe where this famed lab might be. He skimmed around, “He said the largest building… What do you think Chomp?” He looked down to the ground, expecting Chomp to be there with him, but was nowhere in sight. “Chomp?” He jerked his head around, “Chomp? Where’d you go?” He shouted as he looked all around him, but couldn’t catch sight of his little bipedal alligator! “CHOMP!!!” He shouted out loud before bursting into a run, going back the way they came but no luck.

“Great,” he mumbled to himself, “I haven’t received a Pokedex yet and I’ve already lost my first Pokemon.” He then ran back to the spot he was previously at, passing a girl with brown hair wrapped in a green and white bandana, wearing a sleeveless red-orange shirt with a white zipper in the middle bound by a green fanny-pack-like bag over a pair of black shorts. She turned around puzzled at the behavior and walked on.

“Not here…” the boy said as he decided to check the alleys around the neighborhood, but got barked at by some random orange dog-like Pokemon with black stripes as he passed various yards. At first he ran up and down the street blocks one by one. Then he tried to just glimpse over as he went by, but still no sign of Chomp.

As he walked back to the main street, the boy came across a boy his age with curious blonde hair wearing an orange and white striped short-sleeved shirt with a long green scarf wrapped around his neck over a pair of black pants carrying a brown bag. He stopped short and noticed the boy’s long face. “Something the matter?” he asked. The boy stopped and looked at the other, “Is something the matter?” he asked again.

“I just lost track of my Totodile and can’t find him,” the boy replied, “Have you seen him?” He asked, feeling a bit hopeful.

“So that was your Totodile…” the other boy muttered to himself, stroking his chin with his right hand, “I’ve seen saw him, he’s at the lab I recall.”

The boy flinched with hope and got right to it, “Oh, can you tell me where the lab is?”

“Sure thing,” the other boy smiled and pointed the way he came, “You just go down this road and take a long left as soon you see the water front. It’s not very far, but it’s the large building, you can’t miss it.”

“Thanks so much!” The boy replied as he broke into a sprint going where the other boy told him to.

Simultaneously, the other boy threw his head back with both hands to the sides of his mouth, “Good luck!” he shouted after the boy but it wasn’t long until he was out of sight. “I have a feeling we’ll meet again.” He said to himself as he headed out of town.

The boy ran as hard as he can, repeating to himself the instructions he was given. Surely he would’ve thanked the other boy more properly, but the only thing on his mind was if Chomp was still there. He took a sharp left as soon he saw the waterfront and saw a large building just ahead. And surely Chomp was there, along with a girl petting it.

“You’re so cute,” She said with a smile as Chomp stayed attentively. The boy slowed down to a walk and went up to them. The girl had teal-blue hair styled in pigtails with a yellow beanie cap resting on top of her head. She wore what looked like a red turtleneck sweater with a white stylish jacket on top, a light blue bag hung over her right-hand shoulder with a blue version of the boy’s black watch-like device hanging around her neck. She too wore a pair of yellow shorts to her knees with black accents. She then noticed the boy, “Oh hi,” she got up and walked up to him, “could this Totodile happen to be yours by any chance?” She asked warmly.

“He is,” the boy nodded as Chomp hopped over to greet his trainer, “His name is Chomp and he kinda ran off on me. He isn’t causing you any trouble?” He asked her as he bent down and scolded his Pokemon.

“Oh not at all,” she replied politely as she bent down again and stroked Chomp on the back of his head, “He’s actually is behaving like quite the gentlemen.” She chuckled, “Oh I’m Charlie, by the way.”

“I’m Kenny,” the boy introduced himself as Chomp played innocent, “thank you for taking care of him.”

“No problem,” Charlie replied as she noticed Kenny’s black device, “I’m guessing since you have a Totodile, you’re from the Johto region right?”

“I am actually,” Kenny nodded with a slight blush, “I came all the way from Olivine City. How about you Charlie?”

“I came all the way from Hoenn region,” Charlie replied as she picked up her blue device and clicked a button twice, “Verdanturf Town to be exact. I see you have a PokeGear on you, mind if we exchange numbers?”

“Hoenn, huh? That’s pretty far,” Kenny nodded as he did the same with his device, “Sure why not? There’s a chance we could meet up somewhere right?” He said as they exchanged numbers with each other.

“Well,” Charlie said as she inserted Kenny’s number, “From what I understand, the Kanto and Johto regions hold their Pokemon Leagues and Grande Festivals in the same locations so that probability is very high.” As soon as they finished exchanging numbers, Charlie got up to leave, “I hope to see you and Chomp sometime soon, take care now.”

“Oh, hope to see you too,” Kenny said as he stood up, “Good luck with your journey.”

“Same with you,” Charlie waved good bye and blew Chomp a kiss, “Bye guys.”

“Bye,” Kenny waved good bye as she left for the path out of town. As soon she was out of sight, Kenny took a look at his Pokegear and cringed happily, “I can’t believe it! My second day in Kanto and I already have a number on my Pokegear; a girl no less!” Chomp frowned at this as he reeled his head back and bit Kenny on the hand again. “OWCH!” he screamed in pain, Chomp let go. “What’d you do that for!?” He demanded, “I wasn’t thinking about anything wrong!”

“Toto,” Chomp said to its trainer.

“I wasn’t!” Kenny protested as he walked up to the lab doors, “Let’s get this Pokedex and get out of here already.” He pleaded as he reached for the door and knocked with his uninjured hand. Chomp giggled to himself and hopped over.

Noticing that the doors open outward towards him, Kenny took a few steps back. With all good calculation and timing, the large doors opened wide. For Chomp, everything felt normal, but for Kenny, time seemed to have slowed down dramatically when a girl appeared at those doors and walked by. As she passed by, Kenny couldn’t help but turn his head.

She appears to be about his height, if not taller with her white sun hat on top of her head with long flowing black hair underneath. She is wearing two sleeveless tops, a blue one over a black one over a pair of crimson jeans, with a yellow backpack strapped to her back.

A cool breeze whipped through the air and blew into her hair, making clumps of her bangs to whoosh back. She instinctively grabbed her hat and turned to face Kenny. Both of their eyes met, staring tamely in between. It was here that it felt like time has come to a pause as they stared at each other.

The girl then noticed Kenny’s Pokegear and broke the silence. “Please excuse me by asking,” she spoke bringing back the boy back to reality, “since I clearly don’t have a watch, can you tell me what time it is?”

Immediately, Kenny shifted his arm and switched the Pokegear back to its default time mode and answered, “It’s almost three pm.”

“Okay, thank you,” the girl replied and ran away from the scene.

Kenny was taken back by her burst of speed and walked into the laboratory without a second thought. Chomp looked at his trainer, then at the direction the girl went, and back as he followed his trainer.

Upon entering the lab any further, a young man just a few years older with black earlobe-length hair wearing an orange headband, a green t-shirt, and a pair of red shorts walked up to the Kenny. “Hello, Welcome to Pallet Town,” he greeted with a sincere smile on his face, “I take it that you’re here to see Professor Samuel Oak?”

“Yes, I am,” Kenny nodded slowly, “I am Kenneth Oliver from Olivine City. But I just go by Kenny.” He then pointed towards his Pokemon,”This Totodile here is Chomp.”

“Good to meet you Kenny and Chomp,” the young man greeted with smile, “I would be Tracey Sketchit, and I work as the Professor’s assistant. Please, come this way.” He said as he motioned Kenny to follow as they walked down the corridors.

After going down the hall and up a flight of stairs, they came into an office-like room that’s connected to a large laboratory filled with huge computers, complex looking equipment, several tables holding different contains, notably a table with six trays, a table with a fish tank full of water, and a table containing three empty PokeBalls. On the lab’s PC sat a tall aging man sitting in a comfortable looking chair sipping from an expensive looking teacup as he turned around at the sound of footsteps. The old man cleared his voice as he sat the teacup gently and shot right up to meet his company.

“Professor,” Tracey addressed the Professor, “the last of this week’s trainers has arrived.”

“Ah,” The old man said with a smile as he held a hand out to Kenny, “I am Professor Oak, the renowned authority of Pokemon in the Kanto Region. And you, my boy, must be Kenny Oliver. Has anyone told you that you look so much your father?” Kenny blushed lightly, slightly annoyed about such a remark. Sensing this, Oak swiftly changed the subject. “Anyway, I’ve heard so much about you from your mother how is she?”

“She’s doing very fine,” Kenny nodded as he remembered the conversion he had with her just before entering town and made a mental note to call her later. Chomp walked in front of his trainer, catching the Professor’s attention.

“Oh!” The Professor said as his face lit with excitement as he bent down to the ground and placed a hand on Chomp’s head to pet it, “This must be the Totodile that Professor Elm gave you.”

“You have to be careful Professor,” Kenny said nervously as he bent down with his hands ready, “He likes to bite.”

“I’ll be fine,” the Professor assured the boy with a smile as his hand found its way onto Chomp’s snout. Who swiftly jerked his head back and clamped hard. CRUNCH!!! Tracey gasped. Kenny clapped a hand over his face. As much he tried to fight the urge to yell, the pain he felt surged right to his brain and let out a loud scream that could’ve rock the entire building if wired to a Loudred. “OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWCH!!!”

Chomp simply released his grip as the Professor ran into the lab and stuck a hand into the fish tank while Tracey grabbed an ice packet from the freezer and rushed it over. Kenny faced Chomp and scolded him in a harsh sounding tone, “Don’t bite people, Chomp!” The Pokemon winced.

“It’s all right,” Oak said as he came back rubbing the ice pack thoroughly over his bitten hand, trying to sound humble, “I get attacked by Pokemon all the time for some reason…” He cleared his throat, “let’s get you started, I’m sure you’d want to be in Viridian City before night fall.” He said as he led Kenny and Chomp into the lab. The professor stopped at a table that had the trays on them and took an orange rectangular electronic device and presented it over to Kenny. “This is your PokeDex. For every Pokemon you catch, evolve, trade, see and regrettably abandon… it will be recorded. It also has the capabilities of telling the details of your Pokemon and of course your trainer card.” Kenny took the PokeDex and flipped the lid open to reveal a couple of buttons and a screen that showed a recent photo of him and some vital information. “There’s a lot more functions than that, but I won’t bore you with all the details. There’s a built in tutorial that shows you how to do stuff, but you can review that later or do what most trainers do and learn things as you go along.”

“Thank you Professor,” Kenny said with a nod as he flipped the lid on and stored the PokeDex away in his hoodie pocket.

“Also I have another thing for you before you go,” the Professor spoke up getting Kenny’s attention as he pulled small memory card case from his pocket and took a memory card out. “Your mother sent this to me to give to you,” he explained as he gave it to Kenny who took it, “since you decided to travel all this way to the Kanto Region, she thinks it would be wise to have a map for your PokeGear.”

“I think that would be a good idea,” Kenny said as he plugged the memory chip into the PokeGear and ran a test on the map feature to make sure it works. “The closest town to here would be Viridian City.” He reported as he looked at the Professor and took a formal bow. “Thank you very much Professor.”

“Have a wonderful journey,” the Professor returned the bow and escorted Kenny and Chomp out of the lab, “Tracey, please escort Kenny to the door.”

“Yes sir,” Tracey shot up from the computer and led Kenny back down the stairs and the hallway to the doorway. “Have a great journey,” he said to Kenny, “We hope to hear great things from you. Please do keep in touch.”

“I will,” Kenny waved to Tracey and headed towards the door, “and thanks!”

As he and Chomp left the lab and broke into a run out of town, the Professor watched from the window above and smiled, “He will do well,” he said to himself. “And if the winds of destiny have their way, he will become much like you, Spenser.”

As soon as he left the town of Pallet, Kenny slowed down to a walk in order to catch his breath. Chomp just hopped up and down along stride his trainer. When he has recovered his breath, Kenny switched his PokeGear into Phone mode and noticed that he was now has Professor Oak’s number, ‘It must’ve came with the memory card,’ he thought to himself and called home. “Hello Mom? I’m doing fine. Yeah, I’m on my way to Viridian City right now. Oh! And thanks so much for the Memory Card! I don’t know what I would do without you. I will now, as long Chomp is beside me I’ll be fine. I’ll call you when I get to Viridian. Okay, love you bye.” He hung the phone up and switched the Gear into Radio mode and music started playing. “Oh, that card must’ve been made to get reception from the radio tower in Kanto,” he said to himself as he flipped to the map mode. “According to this, Viridian City is just a mile away.” He then looked at Chomp, “Ready?” The Big Jaw Pokemon nodded with a great flip in the air as the two of them ran for it.

While both of them ran at a seeming similar pace, several purple rat-like Pokemon and small brown and white bird-like Pokemon scattered off instinctively. It wasn’t until a quart of a mile was when Kenny realized that they were scaring the local Pokemon and slowed into a walk again with Chomp following suit. Feeling a bit dry in his throat he stopped to reach for his backpack and took out a pair of water bottles and stopped for a break. “Let’s rest up a bit,” The young trainer said to his Pokemon and sat himself on the ground. Chomp came over while Kenny uncapped the bottle, “Here you go,” he said as he was about to give him the bottle, but pulled back, “But no biting,” he warned him. Chomp nodded and took the bottle and drank the water; Kenny did the same. When both of them felt hydrated, Kenny stored the bottles back in his bag and was about to continue on his way. But that was when one of the brown and white bird-like Pokemon flew down right in front and pecked the ground.

“It’s a Pidgey,” Kenny identified it as he looked up some information on his PokeDex. “So it evolves eventually into Pidgeot which is a pretty cool bird Pokemon from I’ve seen of Dad’s and LJ’s…” He looked at Chomp and gave him a confident nod. “All right Chomp, Battle Ready!” As he was called on, Chomp charged in front of his trainer.

The Pidgey took notice of this challenge and flapped its wings, picking up the sand and dust off the ground and sent it straight for Chomp. “Sand Attack…” Kenny analyzed the attack and made his move, “Chomp, shut your eyes and sprinkle yourself with a Water Gun.” Chomp did as he was told shutting his eyes closed and spat a water gun into the air which splashed back down, making himself as slick as possible. The Pidgey without hesitation then flew into action and tackled into Chomp pretty hard.

“This is a pretty strong one,” Kenny said to himself and changed strategy, “Chomp, open your eyes and use Scratch.” Chomp opened his eyes and lunged towards the Pidgey with his little nails out and scratched as first as he can and kept scratching.

“Pidgey!” The Tiny Bird Pokemon cried and retaliated with a Gust attack, the force of the winds sent Chomp back a couple of feet and charged fast for another tackle.

Kenny bit his lip, not sure what to do as he thought of some attack scenarios but then he felt the familiar sensation in his right hand and thought earlier of when it was bitten. He then knew what to do, “Chomp, reel back and use Bite!” Just as the Pidgey was going to attack, Chomp leaned his body backwards rather swiftly, nearly missing. The velocity of the attack caused Chomp to flip backwards and he caught himself by jerking his head around and took a bite of the Pidgey’s foot, bringing it to the ground. It flinched.

“All right, good work Chomp,” Kenny called as he whipped a regular red and white PokeBall out of his pocket and threw it at the Pidgey. As the ball flew closer, it opened up and consumed the Tiny Bird Pokemon in a flash of red light inside and closed up as it rolled to the ground and then started rock back and forth. Kenny bit his lip as the ball shook. There’s a chance that the Pokemon will pop right out again, but if it stops and stays, then the Pidgey is his. Just as he expected it to pop open, it just stopped. Kenny’s anticipation broke away into a big bright smile as he walked to the ball and picked it up. “All right,” he whispered to himself as he stored the PokeBall into his pocket and looked up. “Oh! That must be Viridian City Chomp!” He called out loud. From where he was standing, he could see the city just ahead dimly in the horizon. “Let’s hurry before the sun goes down,” he said as he broke into a run with his Totodile not too far away.
