Accepted Zodiac Profiles
Appearance:
Name: Maou Shoga
Age: 16
Grade and Class: High School, Year 1, Class 1-B
Occupation: None
Zodiac: Cat
Background: Daughter of Japanese male nurse and a German-Irish female pharmacist that met in their later years of college, Maou was supposed to be the well-loved centerpiece of the family. Unfortunately for her, she was born as the dreaded cat monster of the Shoga's zodiac curse. Unlike the Sohma's cursed cat, Maou does not wear a bracelet but a tight collar around her neck with a silver bell hanging from it. One cannot tell by looking at it but the small ball within the bell is made of obsidian. The bell as a whole is what acts as Kyou's bracelet and its constantly jingling keeps the girl from transforming. The collar can never be taken off and can only be slackened when the girl goes to sleep, to prevent her from suffocating herself.
Maou is constantly being tugged between her father's love and her mother's hate. The only constant she gets from both of her parents is the fear that she will turn into the cat's true form. Her father works the night shift at the local hospital and rarely is awake long enough to listen to his daughter while her mother will rarely stay more than 10 minutes in the same room with her. Growing up like this (along with the constant hate from the people around her) made Maou a relatively quiet child that kept to herself.
If Maou is hugged by the opposite gender, the girl transforms into an Egyptian Mau of the Copper Class (meaning that she has sandy-blonde color to her fur). While, like all others cursed with the zodiac, her clothes become too large for her and fall off, her collar is tight enough that it manages to remain loosely hanging onto the cat form.
Personality: Maou is not a shy person but she is, however, a relatively quiet person when left alone. She does not bother to bring up needless conversation, though if someone manages to get her riled up or excited, she becomes extremely talkative. An extroverted person by nature, but introverted by habit. Because of the way that she was/is treated by her mother, Maou also suffers from a depression that is only conveyed through her copper colored eyes. If allowed to lean on someone for strength, she will take full advantage of that opportunity. She also has a very fierce loyalty to those that show her compassion and has been used and abused because of this trait a few times.
Other: Maou's name means "Cherry Blossom Dance" and shows the affection that was meant to be bestowed upon her. While the girl knows martial arts, she possesses very little physical strength and tries to avoid physical conflict. If she has to fight, she usually focuses on running away and not getting hit, being very graceful while maneuvering away from danger.
Appearance:
Name: Tsuji Shoga
Age: 20
Grade and Class: University, 2nd Year
Occupation: A small convenience store clerk
Zodiac: Tiger
Background: A second year university student, Tsuji isn't the oldest in the Shoga family, but neither is he the youngest. At the university, the young man is studying forensics and criminal sciences, looking to become a forensic scientist. At the end of his high school career, he took off a year to go to America with his father, who is a business owner (though his business is neither small nor large). Because of his American adventure, Tsuji understands and can speak English, but his accent is very heavy as with most English-speaking native Japanese.
Tsuji was a rather neglected child, living with only a father who was often away because of business. His mother died when giving birth to him because he ripped up her uterus and vaginal area, causing a severe case of internal bleeding. While his father blames his son for killing his wife somewhere deep in heart, the man has tried to be a good influence for his son.
The first memory that Tsuji can recall of turning into a tiger was in the first grade, when a girl spontaneously hugged him. It caused a huge fuss and memories had to be erased but it also revealed something that the other Shoga's did not know about. The tiger that he turns into has melanism and as such, his fur is completely black (as is his hair). As with most creatures with melanism, Tsuji has a high resistance to viral infections and epidemics, meaning that he does not get sick often, if at all.
Personality: Tsuji grew up with a rather serious personality, that made him seem unfriendly and cold. Because of this, the young man didn't have many friends growing up and was able to study quite well. It is also because of a deficit of friends that he lacks the proper way to socialize with people in real life, usually speaking bluntly and rather demeaningly. He realizes that it's not the way to talk to people but has a hard time not speaking quickly and poisonously. Though he has a sharp tongue, the tiger usually has his heart in the right place and the people he cares for, he fiercely protects.
Other: As with most creatures with melanism, Tsuji has a high resistence to viral infections and epidemics, meaning that he does not get sick often, if at all. People have told Tsuji a few times that he looks a lot better without his glasses and that he should wear contacts. Tsuji wears reading glasses almost all the time, feeling more comfortable with them on. His real vision is better than 20/20.
Appearance:
Name: Yukio Shoga
Age: 17
Grade and class: High School, Year 2, Class 2-B
Occupation: Works at the front desk of a sports club in the summer
Zodiac: Dog
Background: Yukio's parents knew from the moment he was born that he was the cursed zodiac dog; he was delivered by a female doctor who fainted at the sight of the puppy she had to give to the mother. Consequently, the doctor had to have her memories supressed. Yukio's mother couldn't deal with the stress of having a son who turned into a dog every time she hugged him, and when Yukio was about five, she and her husband abandoned the Shoga family. The boy has never heard from them since. Yukio had never really been given any love from either of his parents, so he didn't miss them all that much. When they left, he moved in with his father's aunt. Her cousin had been a zodiac, so she had some understanding of what Yukio was dealing with, and knew how to deal with him better than his parents had. While he was never extremely close to his great-aunt, the dog got along with her. She died the year he started high school, but at that point he was allowed to live in a house on his own on the Shoga estate.
Yukio began being introduced to the other zodiac children about the same time his parents moved away. Until then, he had been a very sheltered child, rarely leaving the house, and only doing so with company. They were his first friends and, for a while, his only ones. The dog ended up being rather close to the dragon, and though they became best friends, they were never more than that; they both feared the family god too much to even consider the thought.
The first real incident Yukio had with his curse was in elementary school. He and three friends were playing outside the Shoga estate when one of the girls stumbled. She grabbed Yukio for support, hugging him by mistake and turning the eight-year-old boy into a golden laborador. That girl, along with the other two children, had to have her memories supressed. Afterwards, the dog transferred to an all-boy's school. He didn't go back to a co-ed school until high school, when he promised his great-aunt that he would make sure no girls hugged him. Nothing went wrong with the curse, but when Yukio's great-aunt died halfway through the year the dog missed almost a month of school. All the same, he passed his exams and ended up with good enough grades to get into 2-B.
Personality: Yukio is almost constantly a plaer and a flirt, but he's not such a bad guy. Though he has never gotten serious about any girl, if he did he would be faithful even if it seems out of character for him. He is good at keeping secrets, and is viciously loyal to those close to him. Most of the time, he lazes about and has little motivation, but if he sets his mind on doing something, he won't rest until he's done. Despite being such a flirt, he rarely has trouble with the no hugging rule; he doesn't allow anyone to get close enough to him that he would have to worry about it. He is especially protective of Kaida, whom he sees as kind of a litttle sister in a way.
Other: Yukio is certainly smart enough to be in class A, and even in th top percent of his grade, but he tends to get lazy, resulting in more average grades, though he is surprisingly good at sports.
His name means "gets what he wants," or "happy man." His parents didn't choose it; a friend of theirs did.
Appearance:
Name: Kaida Shoga
Age: 16
Grade and class: High School, Year 1, Class 1-A
Occupation: None, but she's looking for one
Zodiac: Dragon
Background: Both of Kaida's parents were Shogas. Her father was a professor at a university; he taught history. Her mother was also a teacher and taught math in an elementary school. Kaida's name means "little dragon," though that was simply a very odd coincidence. Though her parents seemed to have been very much in love, things changed after discovering that their daughter was the dragon of the zodiac. Kaida's mother loved her unconditionally, but her father insisted on fostering the child to someone else in the family. He refused to acknowledge Kaida as his daughter and wouldn't even hold her after the first time she transformed. She almost died the first time because she wasn't put in water right away. Kaida's parents argued a lot, and as soon as she was old enough to realise what was going on, Kaida tried to run away. She was only about three or four at the time, and she didn't even make it off the Shoga estate.
At the age of four, Kaida met the dog, Yukio. Beforehand she had met some other zodiac children, and she met more afterwards, but Yukio ended up being one of the ones she was closest to. The dragon made a habit of running away to his house when her parents were fighting, which became more frequently as time went on. Finally, Kaida's parents got divorced. Her father took a job on the other side of the country and left the Shoga family altogether. Despite her mother continually telling her otherwise, Kaida blames herself for breaking up her parent's marriage. 'If I wasn't the dragon, father wouldn't have left." Kaida's mother always insists that the girl's father simply couldn't deal with parenthood.
When she was seven, Kaida got a taste of what being the dragon really meant. Yukio had transformed in front of three of his classmates, and Kaida was the one to supress their memories. It wasn't a good experience for the girl, and she's none too fond of her duty, but she'll do it if she has to. Kaida is very particular about keeping the Shoga secret just that; she fears losing her friends like she did her father, though she doesn't have all that many friends outside of the family.
Kaida, like many of the zodiac, attended a one-gender school. Being in an all-girl's school for all of her elementary and middle school life helped her make friends without worrying about the no-hugging rule. However, when she learned that her best friend was attending a co-ed high school, Kaida insisted on going to Yukio's school. After much convincing, the dragon's mother relented, on the condition that Kaida could only go as long as she kept her grades up enough to be in the A class.
Personality: Ususally self-sufficient, Kaida doesn't find herself going to others for help much. When she has any emotional problems, however, she tends to turn to her mother or Yukio. The dragon has a very close bond with her mom, as well as the dog. She has a tendency to take sole responsibility for things that aren't hers alone to be responsible for, but is also assertive. Even though she sometimes takes responsibility, she doesn't like being blamed for things she has no control over. She is empathetic, and has a need to cheer up people when she sees them sad, but she can also tell when they just want to be left alone. Kaida is generally friendly, but mostly towards girls rather than guys, and when she is on her own in a new place with all new people, she will become more introverted and won't speak until spoken to. Despite this, however, she is very good at telling people, especially guys, to get lost.
Other: Kaida tends to be the one who keeps the flirtacious dog on a leash.
Appearance:
Name: Yumi Shoga
Age: 17
Grade and class: 2-B
Occupation: None
Zodiac: Sheep/Ram
Background: Yumi lived in northern Honshu as a child before moving more south to live with the rest of the Shoga family, about a year and a half ago. There is nothing particularly interesting that she finds about her own past, coming from a loving family with a mother, father, two sisters, and an older brother. Her father is a stay-at-home father most of the time and tends to tinker with different things while her mother works at a high class hotel in the next city. Despite having a family that loves her, Yumi has never been particularly close with anyone in the family except for her aunt, who's about her own age.
Upon moving with the Shoga family, Yumi became a little more rebellious in her attitude and often ran out of the house. It was during one of these excursions that she met a young man that she only knows as "Ginsei." Though the two didn't get off on the right foot, Yumi continually ran into the man and they have gotten close in time. She's extremely close to the man but refuses to say that she loves him. He is currently the only male she goes to for help and support. Surprisingly enough, he doesn't know that she can transform into a sheep if hugged.
Personality: A hard-headed, stubborn girl who's the type to pull away harder the more you try to pull her in. She seems to be constantly in a bad mood in front of most people and most do not get the chance to see the fragile girl that she truly is. The louder she gets and the more anger she shows, the more she feels like she wants to cry. Above anything else, Yumi hates guys and would have preferred an all-girls school. The only guys that can even touch her without being hit are her father, brother, and "Ginsei." More than anything else, she's afraid of appearing weak, people not accepting who she is, and being taken advantage of.
Other: Her name is written with the kanji for "friend" and "beautiful." Because she tends to bottle up her real emotions, she tends to pass out with a fever when she's extremely stressed out (along with the chance of changing into a sheep). If her father, brother, or Ginsei touch her without her knowing who's touching her, they can be hurt as well. Brother's name is Nakahiro. Aimi and Eimi are her sisters (they're twins).
Appearance:
Name: Nobu Shoga
Age: 17
Grade and class: High School, Year 1, Class 1-B
Occupation: unemployed
Zodiac: Horse
Background: Nobu is half American, and his sandy blond hair is obvious proof of that. His hair's color has some other significance, as it is the color of the coat of the palomino horse, Nobu's zodiac animal.
His mother (and only known parent) accepted Nobu’s condition almost right away when she found out her son had the curse. His mother had formerly been living in the southwestern parts of America as a rancher (she moved back to her hometown in Japan when she became pregnant), and was nearly overjoyed when she found out he was the symbol of the horse. His Grandparents do know of the curse, and accept it as well. Alas, they have more trouble accepting the concept that he has impure blood.
To try and avoid all of the social mess that came with the curse (as well as keeping him away from being teased because of his blond hair and American-like looks), his single mother home-schooled Nobu through the majority of his elementary and junior high years (he received education from his mother, as well as his Grandmother and Grandfather whom his mother live with). The horse rarely left the safety of his home, let alone his room, for long amounts of time. Naturally, just having the zodiac symbol of the horse has made him want to be able to run free, out in the open.
This is Nobu's first year back in public school, as well as his second year knowing about the household of the other zodiac members.
Personality: Nobu is self-reliant and can care for himself on the most part. He loves a challenge, whether it is physical or mental, and will only stop out of exhaustion. Nobu likes (and some-what craves) the trust to be set out on his own (almost in a free-spirited way) and do what he pleases, but can get rash if he's not granted that trust. He is slightly shy around girls- the only ones he really knows well are his mother and his Grandmother.
Other: His mother wasn't such a great cook, so Nobu has over time picked up a cooking skill so that he could make an actual edible meal. The topic of his father is rarely discussed in their household, and so he doesn’t know much about him.
