"Curse it all!" a large tan deer shouted as he tried to pull his large antlers from a tree branch. His golden hooves kicked up ice as he tried backing up and going foward. Backing up. Going foward. Nothing happened. The strong stag pawed at the tree with a sharp golden hoof.

His thick body thrashed this way and that trying to reach freedom. His black antlers stayed stuck. His wolfish yellow eyes scanned the barren land for any movement that even resembled another herla. He was very close to another herd's territory, though not exactly in it. "Help?" he moaned, his proud head drouping in shame as far as the tree would allow. But then again, who would rescue a rogue?

Soft breath brushed past the cheek of a large creature as it shuffled through the thin snow bedded down with an even thinner layer of ice. Powder had not blessed them this snow, but instead a swift ice storm that had managed to damage the ground in its wake and leave the inhabitants of the area shivering and generally annoyed. One particular animal that made its way through the snow seemed alright with the element except when he was forced to pause and dig harder into the ice to make his way forward. A sigh escaped him.

Bark from various trees was already stripped away, meaning other deer had visited the area, leaving nothing for the new stag to devour. Though their scents were muffled, he detected one that was fresh and lifted his head as he realized it was made only thirty or so minutes before. 'Hmm...' he mumbled, growing curious. Naturally Cavan was inquisitive and meeting deer wasn't at all something that made him timid (cautious yes, but he was willing to meet anyone as long as they had no ill will toward him).

It wasn't long before he heard the grunts of the fellow stag and as soon as he spotted the larger male he paused and observed him from a short distance. It was lucid he was in need of assistance. Slowly Cavan approached, pulling his head forward slinking forward carefully before he finally faced the other male who he was sure already noticed he was there.

"Excuse me sir, but I noticed your antlers..." he fell silent as he noticed the magnitude of the antlers. Awe struck him, this stag was a royal, "...are stuck."

Niyol shot the stranger a sour look. He had stopped struggling a while ago. "I think I know my antlers are stuck, sir," he sighed attempting to shake his head. That didn't work out so well.

His gold eyes blazed as he halfway reared up to thrash at the tree with his golden hooves. That didn't work either. "Why won't you let me go!?" Niyol roared at the tree.

((Sorry for a craptastic post. 4 am.))

((That's okay))

Cavan hadn't meant to offend, in fact he didn't mean to say what he had at all, but found himself speaking without his realization, still stunned by the sight. His head pointed upward, taking into gage how far the branches away were and about how many of the stag's tines were lodged within the dark birch.

"Stay still," he commented, hoping the stranger would do as he asked, so that he may proceed, "I'll try and move the branch." Standing on his hind legs he heaved upward, panting in his swift effort before his dark chocolate colored hooves collided with the wood. Pulling off, Cavan slammed back down, trying to dislodge the antlers with his effort of attacking the three.

It took three more harsh pushes to finally dislodge the deer and once done the lithe stag landed back on his front legs and backed up a few steps, allowing Niyol his space.

Niyol walked a ways from the tree and gave his head a mighty shake. Leaves were cast from his antlers in every direction, dead swirling brown things falling to the earth. He pawed at the dirt with one golden hoof. Suddenly, he sprang into the air as if dancing. He twisted and turned in the clearing, laughing in his bell toll of a voice.

He skidded into a sudden halt when his antlers knocked against the tree's branches. "I'm not falling for that again," he growled with a smile. He turned to Cavan abd bowed, his nose almost touching the earth. "I thank you for freeing me. If there is anything I can do to repay you, name it and it shall be done as long as it's in my power to do so."

The joyous attitude of the stag was enough to please Cavan who watched him from a distance. It didn't surprise him, but he was bluntly surprised when Niyol offered his gratitude and sought to find a way he could repay him. Shaking his head, the golden stag gave a small smile.

"There is no need to repay me, it was nothing at all," he answered lightly. Glancing away briefly, he stared out through the icy scenery, making note of their solitude as a soft breeze picked up, allowing various flurries of snow to dance about their hooves.

((sorry this is so short))

Niyol moved to stand beside Cavan. "Beautiful. Is it not?" he sighed. His wolf-yellow eyes were soft, as was the smile on his sharp features. He tossed his heavy head of antlers to shake the snow and any twigs left free.

"So, how long have you been without a herd? You have herd scent on you, but it's faded away...." Niyol's eyes weren't focused on the landscape anymore. They were fixed on Cavan.

The deer turned to look at Niyol as he was addressed about the scenery. He had to agree; despite the nipping cold weather, the winter had also brought with it a gorgeous pure white wonderland that fascinated the young stag. His attentive ears were forward as his eyes searched the deer wondering a few things about him as well on this biting winter day. The golden creature shook himself lightly as to stimulate his blood to heat his body, before he kicked up a hoof before pounding it back down in the icy snow.

Those teal eyes of his widened when the mention of a herd came into the conversation. How was it possible for him to scent a herd on him when the last time he saw his herd in Ireland he was only a little calf. It dawned on him a second later. Cavan had crossed into the Fire Bringer territory on multiple occasions, coming across some of the herd’s members on one of those instances. Maybe that was what Niyol smelled. "I haven't been with a herd since I was very small, but I do travel through herd lands quite often," he repeated his thoughts to the larger stag.
