Ye Olde Slang Dictionary
-Afeared: Afraid.
-Bird: A member of Raven’s gang. Only used in Manhattan.
-Black Magic: A term used by the Church and its supporters. Black Magic is any Craft except Holy Power or ESP.
-Bloodshot Alley: Slang term for the area of Manhattan where the drug dealers sell their wares; some with Raven's approval, and some not.
-Cat: A prostitute; can mean a man or a woman.
-Cat House: Brothel.
-Coven: a group of witches who have banded together, usually for protection. Although they don’t always possess the same type of Craft, it’s typical for “like to live with like,” especially since their combined abilities can greatly increase their power’s strength.
-Demon: An insulting term for any sentient being who is not human.
-(to be/to get) Hazed: Slang used to describe when someone gets high on drugs
-Hellfire: Shadow Craft; a term used mostly by the Church
-(The) Lady: Statue of Liberty
-Lapdog: a derogatory term used to describe people, mostly laymen, who work in a city’s Church offices. Recently, thanks to the Boston Weekly, it’s also come to mean “fan-boys” of the Church (such as many of the employees at the Boston Times whee ).
-Lumens/Lumes: Short for Luminariums. This is the name of the currency. For more information, see the 4th speech bubble in the Odds 'n' Ends thread in this subforum (Database).
-Madam: The woman in charge of a brothel. (Note: People still say things like “Yes, madam.” It’s only when you say that someone is a Madam—as in that’s her occupation—that it means this.)
-Moneybag: a rich person. Sometimes shortened to just “bag”
-Outlander: in the Church’s cities, it’s used on those coming from the nearby wilderness. In Manhattan, it refers to people living outside of Raven’s “Queendom”
-Outlands: Wilderness on the outskirts of cities and the Church's reach.
-(the) Park: Central Park, now a miniature forest within the city, and a popular place for Raven’s “people” to set up their homes. It’s northern edge marks one boundary of Raven’s territory.
-(The) Queen: Raven; only used in Manhattan.
-Robe: derogatory term for a priest, though it’s mostly used on members of St. Peter
-Rooly: a playfully insulting term for someone who allows follows the rules, usually without question
-Rot-gut: Bad liquor.
-Sitch: A short, playful form of "Situation." Kind of like how nowadays some people say "what's the dealio" instead of "what's the deal?"
-Slummer: Either a person who is literally from a slum, someone who is just penniless, or someone with poor manners. Can be an insult; i.e. “You talk like a dirty slummer.”
-(the) Square: Times Square, and the center of Raven’s territory
-Witch: Any human, male or female, who uses Church-banned Craft. For more information, see the Odds 'n' Ends thread.
-Witch Fire: Fire Craft.
-White Heaven: A methamphetamine that takes effect more quickly and can be even more physically devastating than the kind available in the 21st century. New, and originating in Manhattan, it’s sure to spread quickly.
