I know it wasn't written as a play, but there have been so many stage adaptations that I thought it deserved a thread here. I just recently watched a local stage rendition of A Christmas Carol, in which Charles Dickens played a role. He sat at his desk at one corner (it was a thrust stage) and wrote throughout the book as the play was enacted. Sometimes he would stand up and narrate, but the most interesting aspect was that Scrooge was his landlord. Since Dickens wrote the book on a tight deadline one Christmas, it fit quite well.
What are some of the renditions you've seen?

I"ve seen several interpretations for television, from serious (Patric Stewart) to silly (Bedrock Christmas Carol). When I was in college, one of the German professors (who also taught in the the Theater Dept.) would do a dramatic reading every year to a full house.

They do this great one in my city. Starts off with the boy who plays tiny tim in the darkness...He begins to sing God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen, and a spotlight comes on. Then there is a boom and flash of light and we're at Marley's funeral, and Marley leaps out of the coffin as Scrooge leaves. Scrooge wakes up after the lights go out again and then the play proceeds
