I'm going to purchase/receive a Necron army for christmas. My friend is going to get a similarly size Tyranid army. We mostly want them for some variety when we get together to wage tabletop war (as we currently only have Tau, Eldar, and Space Marines among us).
I figured for the best bang for the buck start off with the $90 starter box which includes:
28 Necron Warriors
3 Destroyers
6 Scarabs
On top of this I'm thinking of getting:
10 Warriors (one box)
1 Necron Lord
5-10 Flayed ones
Other options I'm considering are Wraiths or Tomb Spyders. I'll get a Monolith eventually, but probably not right now. Thoughts? Will this cover all my bases (vehicle destruction, melee, swarms, etc)? What's given you the most trouble when you've faced down Necrons?
On a side note: anyone seen a cool custom Nightbringer/Deciever model? For some reason I'm not too keen on the official ones. xp

sounds deadly, are you going to make a separate color scheme for them, or keep it wiht the basic necron plaint job?
