Nostrils flared with constant pants of white steam, curling then evaporating into the crisp air. This air was too cold, much too cold. But Jaden couldn't focus on that, for it'd only make her pelt shiver more. Instead, she focused on her meal. Vanilla muzzle stripped and tore at the near-dry bark, the hind standing on her back hooves to reach the higher and tastier of the food. However meager it may be. Ears flicked forward and back in a rapid attention, hearing every snow crunch around her.
With this tree no longer bearing any nutrients for her, Jaden graced onto all four hooves and turned away. Slender legs lifted and sunk deeply in the white snow covering the ground, careful to make it as soundless as possible. Sharp indigo eyes glanced all around her, deeply disturbed by the bare cover of the trees that once provided a dense safety for all her kind. Now though, she felt as revealed and fragile as a kite in the open sky. The rogue paused her steps as she found a weed, frostbitten and hidden near a tree trunk. Gingerly, Jaden tore at the plant, chewing it slowly but hungrily. Then a scent trailed up her nose and had the femme jolting upright and tense. Long neck turned as she glared stiffly around her. Where were they?! Those beasts of claw and fang? A patch of snow above her grew heavy, and at that time decided to fall under gravity, and right ontop Jaden's flank. The icy touch and her own jittery nerves got the best of her, and the female found herself bounding recklessly through the trees. Her prance was staggering with the deep snow, but she continued running almost blindly, too nervous to look back where the fresh scent had laid.

(Nice post!)

A few hundred feet away a slender stag ripped at the trees in the same fashion the female had at them. His antlers aided him little as he attempted scratching at the bark in hopes of tarring stripes away with the point of his tines, so in no time at all he opted to using his sharp but flat herbivore teeth. Flicking his velvet ears, the male found himself listening idly to the almost vacant sounds about him, finding tunes in the howls of the chilling breeze along with the occasional thud of snow hitting snow toppling from weak pines. His ankles stung while they sank through the icy snow. Landing back on all fours Cavan, as he was called, shook himself swiftly before giving a short sigh. It amused him to watch his breath grow like vines through the air, fading into little tendrils before disappearing altogether.
"Hmm..." he muttered, often speaking aloud or even singing to pass the time, not worrisome over wolves or anything remotely similar. If it was his fate to come across the creatures he would follow his instinct during the moment, but had no want to live in constant fear that he would be exposed by expressing something pleasurable. Life was short and he wanted to make the most of it. Turning his head, he glanced to his left before putting his nose to the snow, nosing through the substance in hopes to find something sweet beneath blanketed by the soft powder.
He heard distant pants and pattering of hooves but before he could possibly lift up to inspect the newcomer he felt a large body collide with his flank, causing him to twirl around with the force applied. Hind legs triped over one another, almost felling the creature but luckily he managed to stay up. The lovely hind came into view. It was instinct to fly, after all, being a deer meant he was a flight creature, not so much a fight, but as soon as Cavan calmed himself he pulled his ears back and immediatly put his attention on the female.
"Are you alright, Ma'am?" he asked, stepping back, giving her some room.

(thanks. ^__^ but yours is better. 8P )
Run, run, run! That's the only logic behind the hind's wide eyes. It was the only logic she could afford, being a rogue and not blessed with the antlers of stags. Thank goodness she at least had speed, but even the distancing of the wolves scent was no comfort to her. Not so soon. Vanilla legs kept pumping, the female darting across the lanscape with an urgent skip. White, there was white everywhere! The hind shook her head as she ran, trying to collect her thoughts and calm as she continued on. If she could just find a hallow thicket, a patch of dead but thick bushes, then..
"Hnng." Jaden winced to the sudden collision, her eyes closed from the solid mass she ran into. All there had been were trees, and trees didn't shift in the ground now did they. How stupid, she had let her attention drift. She should know better! The hind stepped back rapidly, hooves dancing in front of her in a shallow defense. She wasn't blind, she could see what was before her now. But the question of who was allies was always a doubt to consider. To run into a rogue stag could be mistaken for an attack, or worse, the male could simply be sinister enough to harm another herla. Jaden stomped her hooves down, slim legs quivering from her fridged sprint. Pants were too short from her, and the air was filtered with her vapored breath. Calm down now...
A deep breath was sounded from her, before Jaden allowed her form to slouch just an inch. Her normal endurance was strained in this weather. Indigo eyes turned nervously and apologetically to the other deer. "I...I'm so sorry. I do apologize..." She paused to steady her breath still. "I had sniffed wolves, and...bolted..." Jaden could only hope this other rogue wasn't a threat as she stood there, swaying and uncertain.

((I don't think so. Yours is quite lovely))
Backing up a few steps he allowed the hind her space and time to recover from the collision while he also ensured nothing was damaged on himself or the girl. She seemed physically alright despite her panic but slowly she was calming down which allowed the stag to also ease a bit. His ears folded to the side while a hoof came forward, as he watched her. "No need for apology, I'm perfectly alright and if I was in your position I'm sure I would have done the same," he answered in a tranquil kind tone. That wasn't entirely true, after all he would probably face a wolf a little calmer and run slowly, but that was because he was armed with the weapons to protect himself if the wolf was to catch up with him. That was how he understood why Jaden ran, she lacked the protection.
"If the wolf heads in this direction I'll protect you," Cavan told her, not meaning to sound cliché. It was his nature to protect those that needed the assistance, not at all finding it of any trouble to himself.
((Sorry for the short post))
