Kaleb sighed, glancing up into the sky. Just a few more seconds until noon and it seemed like it would rain soon. Rain. Much better than fire any day. It's quiet and it renews life. Fire is violent and loud and it destroys lives. A simple lighter could burn your skin right off. Kaleb knows that all too well. The burn on his back proved that. A little rain never hurt any one though. Kaleb sighed and scrambled to his feet, his legs stiff from sitting so long. He glanced out at the horizon and sighed again, brushing his long fingers through his hair. He suddenly felt like screaming but remained silent. Silent like a grave. Kaleb smiled at the thought, but as fast as the rare smile came, it was gone. Replaced by a look that made the young teen looking lost in his own world. His own memories.

((Sweet! That was the best intro I made in weeks! If only my essays at school turned out that nice...)

"Hey! I'd be careful if I were you. Don't want you to fall all the way to the ground." Jessi appeared on a balcony just underneath the boy. She was looking up at him with a smile on her face. The wind blew past which gave her hair a playful tickle. She brushed her hair behind her ears and started to climb up to the roof.

Kaleb glanced down at the smiling girl. "I won't fall," he spoke in a quiet tone. "I'm Kaleb. Who are you?" he asked, trying to sound friendly. This place was different. No one here was vicous to him. He still wasn't sure if this girl was only trying to be his friend because of pity. It happened to him before. When he was little. Teachers aren't meant to be friends. After he graduated he never heard from her again.

"My name's Jessi. Pleasure to meet you." She smiled with slight strain as she heaved herself up onto the roof. "Phew! That's a climb." She laughed a bit and just sat on the edge. "So, how long have you been here?" Her legs dangled over the edge and kicked back and forth in a nice, even rhythm.

"Been at the school or on the roof?" Kaleb asked, deciding to sit next to Jessi. "I've been on the roof for about two hours and at the school a bit over five. So far I like it here," he said with a shrug. "So what's your power?" he asked, trying to make a little small talk. He felt a little awkward, but pushed that feeling aside. For now anyway.

She laughed a bit. "Should have been more specific in my question, huh? But you're completely new here huh? That's cool." She nodded her head as she stared out into the distance. "I like it here too. First time I've felt like I'm home since I've gotten my powers." She looked at her hands with a sad glance. When he posed the question of what her powers were she merely raised her hand and lightning came blasting out of it and flew off into the distance. "I store up electrical energy from appliances, electrical plants, anything that uses electricity. And then I am able to release it in a blast, just like the one I showed you."

"Sweet," Kaleb murmered. "My bite and my blood is poisonous, though what kind of psycho goes aroung biting people? All I do is store my blood in a plastic water bottle for when I need it," he said, pulling out his bottle from his back pack. "I don't know why it's poisonous, it just is."

"Weeeell, if you were a vampire then you would go around biting people." She laughed a bit, liking to ease tension between two people, even if it involves herself. "So, poison you say? That is sooo cool! Wait, does it require the person to drink it or just be on them?" She put a finger to her chin and looked up a bit, pondering her own question.

Kaleb shrugged. "I guess they could drink it if they wanted the poison to eat them from the inside out," he chuckled. "But just my blood touching them should impair them enough to escape. Anything more than a cup of blood will probably kill them, not to mention I'd feel like I just snuck into my Grandma's liquor cabinet. Light-headed and woozy and I'll most likely throw up." Kaleb yawned. "Also, I burn easily. Fire.....isn't good for me at all," he added absentmindedly.

"Oh wow! So, guess I'd better make sure not to take any from you huh?" She giggled again, smiling at him. "Well, as for the burning thing, it's the same for everyone, isn't it? I mean, we all pretty much burn the same way. And no one really likes fire, unless you're a pyro mutant or something." She shrugged her shoulders, feet still swinging back and forth smoothly.

"You got me there. Too bad I'm like paper for fire. Go up like smoke, man. Crazy I guess but I got a huge scar just from a run-in with a lighter. Not fun. Especially the Emergency Room. Doctors poking me with needles and stuff. Wouldn't even give me that numbing medicine because they were afraid what would happen. They wanted to draw my blood but Grams wouldn't let them," Kaleb said. "They tried though. And my nurse was a nice old lady. Though she kind of kept bugging me, asking if I wanted water and stuff."

"Well, it is sort of their job to keep you comfortable and what not. But, it sounds to me like your grandma is a nice lady. Wish I could meet her some day. I never knew my grandparents so I wouldn't know how they are supposed to behave....guess like parents." She looked up towards the sky and pondered it for a bit.

"My Grams? Nice? Yeah, right. She took care of me, but that old bat was crazy! When she was mad, all hell broke loose. It was like a mine field when I lived with her. Though when she was drunk, she was nicer. Crazier, but a lot nicer. I guess she thought it was her job to make sure I was well cared for. SHe was a mutant too," Kaleb said. "She could breathe in any amount of oxygen and use it. Kinda cool I guess."

Jessi laughed nervously at what Kaleb said about his grandma. 'Perhaps meeting her is not the best idea after all.' She cleared her throat and pushed the thought aside. "Um, not to sound rude or anything but isn't that what every human can do? Breathe in oxygen and then use it?"

"Well, I suppose. But she has special lungs or something that can let her use even the smallest amount of oxygen," Kaleb explained, suddenly growing embarrased at how much information he was giving and he just met this girl! "Um.... So do you have any relatives?' he asked nervously after taking a deep, relaxing breath.
