I just used this title to make fun of the way hipsters try to impress each other by being more obscure and indie than the other guy. Actually this is just a chance for us to share some of the more obscure artists we like. If you really like a certain band or performer, and you think they really deserve some extra recognition, post them here, preferably with a link. You can also post links to songs you really like.

Remember, if someone's already heard of what you posted, you lose indie cred ;]

Please do try to post obscure material. Go out of your way to find stuff we probably wouldn't have heard of otherwise.

I'll go first with Cornelius
This is a Japanese DJ with a penchant for mixing weird noises into his songs. A lot of times, his music reminds of listening to someone play a video game. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a website, just a MySpace. So that's where the link goes.

You want Video Game music? The Gothsicles are awesome. They've got great songs about Galaga, one-second ghosts, and the konami code. Even if you're not into video games, sure you may not understand the references, but it's still good music.

EDIT: Wow. I went to the site myself....They put on a much much better live show. Trust me.

Ian Foster is a local singer/songwriter who sometimes performs with a band. His voice is absolutely amazing, and he's a really nice guy.

Machinae Supremacy.

The inventors of sid metal, (I'm not sure what that means) these guys use awesome props, like old-school keyboards and Ataris.

They put their albums up for download, and even though they eventually got signed, the albums are still available for free on the website. The success of this bands proves definitively that the coming demise of the recording industry as we know it doesn't have to hurt artists. Kiss my a**, Metallica!
