Merry pre-Cristmas all!
I'm sure most of you know what "secret santa" is but for those who don't, it is the exchange of a secret gift between people.
I am proposing we play this game for christmas on Gaia.
For everyone who wants to play, you will receive the name of someone else who's playing and you will have to give this person a gift on/before christmas.
Obviously we'll need rules like the maximum amount of gold that can be spent so that one person doesn't get a piece of trash and another person gets a kiki (a dramatic example of course but a valid one).
Here are some ideas to consider:
- A list of gift givers/receivers sent to everyone or posted here so that there's no confusion. This won't exactly be secret but if you want it to be I'll pick the names myself through random selection and PM each person who they will be giving gifts to.
- An agreed upon amount, I'm suggesting around 1k so as not to break anyone's budget (please give your feedback on this, more/less, whatever).
- Gift wrapped, and possibly given anonomously (if we're really keeping it secret) so that the receiver doesn't know what it is or if it's not anonomous, wrapped so that the gift itself is unknown.
- Whatever the amount, giving 1 gift worth the total amount or several gifts that add up to the total amount (whichever the giver wishes to do).
Rules:
- Gift(s) must equal the decided upon amount or else it won't be fair for everyone. Obviously, it can be hard to get the exact amount, so a little leeway is allowed.
- No people switching. People will be chosen AT RANDOM and it is up to YOU to figure out what that person might like. You can ask other people who know that person or check their wishlist/journal or whatever.
- No revealing of secret santas if we are keeping it secret. This is up to individual to reveal his/herself after christmas if they chose.
- To be added to the list you MUST either post "I want to play" or something like that in this thread OR PM me.
- List will be closed 1 week from today (Dec. 18th) so you must sign up by that day if you want to join. On the night of Dec. 18th I will tally the people playing and either post a list in this thread (if we're playing public) or PM each person (if we're playing secret).
- Obviously, "secret santa" doesn't work if enough people don't play so this game will be cancelled on Dec. 18th if not enough people are playing.
Any thoughts, comments, questions?
Let's make this Christmas special and possibly start a new tradition!!

Unless anyone has any objections, the fixed giving amount will be 1k and the game will be done in secret.

It has come to my attention that the idea of a gift or gifts being worth 1k is slightly confusing. Therefore I shall try to explain this concept as simply as possible:
1) A gift must be worth 1k.
2) This "gift" may be comprised of a single gift worth 1k or multiple gifts worth 1k. It is up to your "secret santa" to decide whether to give you a 1k gift or 2 or more gifts that equal 1k.
ex. one 1k item.
ex. two 500g items.
ex. one 300g and one 700g item.
ex. one 200g item, one 300g item and one 500g item.
Questions:
How will I know how much my gifts are worth after I open them?
If the item(s) you receive are from your wishlist, you should have the price listed there. If not, check the Market which has the store price of every store item.
What if I find a store item in the Market and it's selling for less than the store price?
You can buy it! As long as your total gift package is worth 1k (store price) you are welcome to save some gold (besides, it's the thought that counts, right?)
What if I buy multiple items and the total cost is just under/over 1k?
Just think of what you'd rather receive: 950g worth of items or 1050g worth of items? Personally, if there's a little something I can add in there to make the gift worth 1k, I'd do it.
