Okay, there are psychological studies out there about certain students aiming to gain their teacher's approval.

Studies say that if you're closer with your mother than your father, you'll aim to please your MALE teachers more often than your female, and vice versa.
Other studies say that if you're closer with your father, you'll aim to please your male teachers, also, and vice versa.

What I believe is it depends on how you perceive your relationship to be with your parents.
Or it could solely be sexual attraction.
XD

I don't aim to please a certain gender.
It's all about character to me.
I'm not close at all with my father.

So, what do you believe?
Do you find yourself aiming to please a certain gendered teacher more than another; why do you think you do?

Being homeschooled, it's hard to say, especially since I'm not that close to either of my parents.

When it comes to trying to please authority figures, though... I guess when I really think about it, I put more effort into trying to please the male authority figures.

Maybe it's because I'm slightly closer with my mother, but I think the most likely explanation is that I usually have little or no trouble making connections with (or in some cases, charming the hell out of) older female types. So maybe I don't try as hard with them because I don't have to.

(I also think I might have some kind of complex, because this was definitely not the first thing that popped into my head when I read the title "Pleasing the Teacher redface )

XD
Well, you had the option of choosing sexuality as your reason.

It's not sexual attraction, though (At least not on my part, and I hope not on theirs.) They just tend to think I'm rather likeable. I think I'm good at awakening their maternal instinct or something. Even girls younger than me seem to love the idea of taking care of me.

I have some ideas on why that is, but it's definitely not something I actively encourage, sometimes I find it really embarrassing.

I was talking about your reaction to the thread title.
Someone sounds defensive.
Haha.

Maternal, you say?
Hm.
Well, women do have those tendencies, as it comes with our fallopian tubes and such other.

Actually, I can be a bit defensive, I have some mental blocks about sexual matters, which unfortunately keeps most women from viewing me as sexually dangerous at all.

Which is probably what triggers that maternal instinct. Huh. I just made an interesting discovery about myself. Here's hoping you stick around.

Haha!
See, that's what I like to see.
I want people to better understand themselves, so I write certain situations so maybe it can help someone else.

Well, that works, because I like talking about myself.

i have to admit that i have a really bad relationship with my father, and i had two male teachers i REALLY adored when i was about 12 or so, i think i really saw a father figure in them, and i still like them, but just for beeing my former teachers, in our school, we generally have a good relationship with our teachers, i sometimes meet with my former maths teacher (female) to discuss about what´s going on with my studies or school, it´s real fun!

Hahaha, I'm closer with my mother and have a long history of trying harder to please male teachers than female. Whoops. Though for the past couple of years I tried my hardest to please my Japanese professor and history professor (both female), not because of attraction but because they both thought I was a good student and I didn't want to disappoint them. razz

I'm in high school and pretty close to both of my parents and I guess I just try hardest for the teacher's I like, and the one's who have high expectations. For example; I try hard for my history teacher because I like her, and everyone else just walks all over her.
I try hard for my maths teacher because he's pretty scary if I don't, and I try hard for my religious education teacher since I'm one of her four students and can therefore get away with nothing less!
